Huh, I always thought Turducken was a Red vs Blue reference. Madden came up with it? I dont like it anymore.

Sticky Tape Defeats Sony DRM Copy Protection

I believe they make mention somewhere that tape along the edge (or you can use magic marker if you want) will defeat any cd protection as long as that cd is still designed to be able to play in regular players.

Even if they do manage to control computer recognization of songs on a cd, line-in audio ripper will step around the most drastic of measures.

I think the point is that DRM will never stop people from ripping music off CDs as long as those people are determined to rip music. The musics execs realize this; so why do they even try? DRM merely alienates legitimate music purchasers while failing to deter those who are going to rip music regardless.

An Xbox 360 going for $2247. I'm sorry, but thats just stupid.

For that kind of cash, buy a nice gaming computer right now and then wait a month (or however long) and buy a 360 at normal prices.. if you still want it.

Kinda makes me wish I had bought one.. I could be ebaying it right now. My computer needs an upgrade, and there are a number of games I'd pick up.

Nope, the exploit is still there. I wonder what it does then.

# Increased the range of the Claim Resource skill, which is used by the Ghostly Hero as well as Mages and Priests.

I'll have to test this out, by I'm pretty sure this fixes the exploit that people use to run the Sanctum Cay mission.

That is a rather impressive spin on it..

Step 1) Bombard players with ads while they are using a service they are paying for.

Step 2) Tell players they wanted those ads.

I have to say its an idea I would never have come up with.

All I can find is 1.5 release candidate 2. Am I missing something?

They state fairly clearly that it isnt 1.5 final.

Improved AI so that henchmen and monsters can now detect and flee from area-effect damage spells.

Doh! That was one of the things that made AoE on monsters so effective.

Improved AI so that monsters will eventually stop chasing fleeing players.

This is much appreciated. I hate having to zone because a monster moves at permanent +25% speed and I'll never be able to lose him.

Cue the valve flame...

Personally, I say thats just fine. Feb/March will give plenty of time to finish with the games that are all being released simultaneously right now. Just put off the inevitable lull of releases between this Christmas and the next a little longer.

I'm guessing killing Autorun should stop it

Yep this works, I think as long as you dont run their little executable you wont run into this. I'm also pretty sure it doesnt install until after agree to the EULA (which mentions nothing about a rootkit, or at least didnt). So if you accidently doubleclick on the drive, say no and you're still fine.

To listen to your music still: use a ripper to pull the files off the cd. That would be my advice, anyway.

Absolutely outrageous, their "rootkit" completely swiss cheeses windows security. Their attitude of what the user doesn't know can't hurt them is arrogance at it's best.

I agree, totally.

Microsoft is not blameless, it's also ridiculous that folders can be created that are hidden from the computer administrator. An admin should be able to see all without 3rd party detection programs.

A problem here is that most people run their windows systems as administrators (not good in the first place) and they do things like use hidden folder to stop most people from messing with stuff they shouldnt.

The real issue is that a rootkit places itself in the windows kernal. Something that deep in windows isnt gonna be found if it doesnt want to be found, unless a third party detection tool is used. If you look at the way Mark Russinovich at sysinternals.com designed his rootkit detector, it uses fairly devious methods to find them and even then he says its theoretically possible for a rootkit to evade detection.

Anybody else pissed off about this Sony DRM thing? The fact that they are playing it down and pretending that nothing is wrong is unacceptable.

Sony CEO: "Most people dont even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care?"
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4989260

I have a problem with them putting a rootkit on my computer regardless of the intent. I have a BIG problem with them putting on a poorly written rootkit on my computer without telling me they are doing so. The rootkit alone is bad enough, but there is also the demonstrated capability of Sony to track what CD is being played on what computer at what time. WTF?

Complete lack of respect for the customer.

I'm not buying any Sony CDs, that much is certain.

There just isn't a game out there, that could beat GW in what it can offer.

Agreed. GW is excellent in its own area. PvP combat is excellent and some of the missions are very well done. If you are looking for an MMORPG, sorry. But if you want a good action rpg with a clever way to play with friends/find people to play with, GW is the best out there.

Beyond that, right now they have their whole Halloween stuff going on that is just plain fun.
FEAR MY CANDY CORN MINIONS!!!!
edit: oh yeah, the fact that skill makes a large difference from player to player is cool. IE my 12 W/Mo was taking on lvl 15s and making them look stupid.
