Honestly, I think that everyone who is hoping for a Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 will be disappointed. Blizzard is clearly focused on MMORPGs and console games as the big future money makers. But don't get me wrong -- I'm a PC gamer exclusively, and the shift toward consoles sucks rocks.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are sure things, and Blizzard knows this very well. Console market being strong or not, Blizzard stands to make a lot of money by continuing these franchises and IMO the question is not whether or not they'll make them, but when. I'm hoping it will be soon, but they do seem to be occupied with other projects.

I so badly want this to be a diablo iii announcement. But really, the only thing that makes me think it could be is the fact that I want it to be that.

Really it looks like its just a compilation. Meh.

It's not an easy game to learn, the interface is ... clunky

I wanted to love this game, I really did. But I simply couldnt get comfortable with the interface and eventually gave up. There is a learning curve on this game, to be sure.

This is a very solid game. I wish it had sold a little better.

I knew every last thing on that list. No new info whatsoever.

I liked CivIII, thought it could be improved, but I dont want an RTS. I dont think it will be that, but all of the focus on multiplayer makes me think the epic long battles versus the computer that have been the franchise's mainstay will suffer.

I'm sure I'm not alone in having created some lasting enemies with this board game.

Somehow I just dont think it could translate to the PC. There is a certain malicious joy in watching an 'ally' come to slow realization that you horribly and utterly stabbed him in the back.

I dont play this game anymore for my own safety.

If you need a hand, look me up. I am very good at keeping squishies alive; just ask nin or mordkai.

I can attest to that, but you have to tell him before hand that you are trying to be a tank. Despite your complete and utter lack of tankiness. Dont believe the whole "you CANT die while you on my watch" crap, cause you can definately aggro enough things to die. He'll run outta energy sooner or later.

I'm of the opinion that all of the class combos are useful, but in their own way. Granted, this may be only really true when applied to PVP.

Reason I say this is because I came up against a W/Me in the arena. It is very nasty when as an elementalist to come up against a warrior that can break your spells.

As well, some class combos dont really come into their own until they get those couple of skills that work together so well. So I'd say if you arent happy with your class, stick it out because later you might find that you've come across an excellent combination.

For me the ability to create your own content for PC games is a massive reason why I still play almost exclusively on the PC. I know I'm in the minority, but I like to map for FPSs, create my own little scenario for an RTS or turn-based strategy, etc. As well, the ability to download user-made content of the net is invaluable IMO.

While most of the time it isnt of the same quality as that of the professional developers, the community made mods and add-ons can be better than what the developers intended. Counterstrike is an example of game that could never had been made if Half-life had been a console game. Please let this not turn into a Valve-flame thread

Its the extra abilities of the PC besides running video games that make these things possible.

But HL2's editor is very limiting compared to the point editing capabilities of a full 3D modeling package, which Metroid Prime can take advantage of, but HL2 can't. HL2 levels are built by combining simple 3D primitives together (cubes, spheres, cones, simple stairs). More complex objects (prefabs) can be impoted from a 3d program, but they are just add-ons, placed on top of the environment instead of being a part of it.

Metroid Prime environments are created in a full 3D modeling package, giving the artist greater design freedom.

I would never, ever, want to work with an editor that forced me to use a full 3D modeling package to make an entire level. The reason things are built by combining 3D primitives is because this is easier to do. It is possible within the Hammer editor to edit vertices and pretty much do whatever you want with a block (save making it a concave shape) and as you said, you can import anything that needs to be imported from a 3d program. Having worked with both editors (Hammer, Radiant, UnrealEd) and 3DMax, I dont think that having an editor detriments the building of a level at all.

I think what you are knocking HL2 for (and go ahead, its kinda valid) is its artistic direction. Some games have excellent artists behind them that are given creative freedom, others dont. HL2 wanted to make Eastern European hell, I think they did it. Metroid Prime (and I've only played a little of it) was creating the interior of a ship and I wasnt really paying attention to my surroundings, so Im not gonna comment on their artistic direction.

I'll bet that within the HL2 editor, it is possible to recreate a metroid prime level. You would need to import many many textures, and many models, but its probably possible.

A couple of drivers back, ATI messed up my screen alignment whenever it switches to 800x600, leaving a black line on the right side. Only time its a problem is when I'm playing old games, but some of those games I really like. Sigh.

edit: You arent forced to use the java downloader. Say no to the popup window and the download will start.

Anyone see this? Images are from Aug 31. Really amazing how much of the city was underwater. You can zoom in and see cars trying to plow their way through flooded streets.

The Computer and Video Games preview was about the closest I've ever seen to a negative preview. I think it mostly on account of the fact he had an awful business trip, but all the same its rare for a preview to go by without some type of hype building about feature X or shiny graphic Y.

As for PCGamer, they lost my respect eons ago.

I used to love PCGamer, and Im not sure when it happened since I let my subscription slide around 2000 or so, but now they seem like just another hype-ridden gaming mag. Sure, every once in a while they rip a game apart, but I think they review some terrible games just for that purpose.

So, anybody know of a gaming mag that can take PCG's place? Or at least is heading in that direction?
