I was getting worried that I wouldn't have my Doom 3 thread today.

Are there still 50k CS players online these days? I believed the reason there were so many people is that the majority had low end systems and couldn't run many newer games out there. I'd be surprised if there are that many now with the steam requirement.. which I believe also happens to require higher system specs than CS itself.

It will be interesting to see how many people show up online with HL2.

That's exactly why it only makes sense to me to download it on the "gold" day, weeks before the CDs are on the shelf, or just get the CD online/locally on release day.

Getting the game the day it goes gold, legitimately, would be the only reason I'd put steam on my PC. All the other features (I'll download and test updates on my own schedule, thank you very much) have little value to me. So, let me be the first to say STEAMing pile in this thread. I'll bet their servers will be just that on steam release day.

It's likely their install will detect and refuse to run under Windows 98, since that's very easy to do.

There's really no need to debate Windows XP vs 98. Face reality. You aren't going to change their minds. I'll tell you one thing, you certainly aren't going to be building Windows apps under 98. I haven't touched 98 since the days of NT 4.0 for development.

I've been using XP for the last 2 years and maybe blue screened twice.

Why would anyone want to play DOOM III when they can read the book? Your mind has so much more memory and a much better resolution.

Yeah every company does thinks like, cancel the next generation Ultima series game.. twice.

But do not despair, the responsible origin and westwood staff now at EA have just released Catwoman and Ultima Online: Samurai Empire. I'm glad to see the same tradition being continued that you would have expected from Origin and Westwood today.

One thing is true. All good game companies must come to an end.

A quick search will show that alas, Ghandi was not the pioneer for that term.

In other news, Space Captain has been dubbed the Derek Smart of music.

He should also ditch that junky typewriter he keeps using.

After reading that site, I now realize that people who type in CAPS are to be cherished, for the world could be much, much worse.

Actually, I find this debate to be enlightening, as I'm sure Trent and Vrenna had this very same conversation the other day.
