Hey, after loading it up, what is the number at the top right corner of the login screen? Is it still loading content at that point? It increases every couple seconds.

Oh now you've done it.. it won't be long before Joe Blow comes in here with his political trollage.

Although they might have some socialistic stuff going on over there, I like the Aussies. I say lift the game sanctions

Preventing an Aussie from getting HL2 is almost as bad as handing him a Foster's and saying "G'day mate!".

Geez, no HL2 boxes? How can gamers survive over there? Hopefully steam won't be blocked for some wacky bureaucratic reason.

Guild Wars is still technically an MMORPG

But how could you compare it to WoW? I have 200 people in my guild interested in WoW. Can 50 of us log into a single Guild War world? No? Then it's not massive at all.

How is PvP done? It sounds like from the FAQ it's basically guild "duels" where you decide beforehand that you'll form a party and fight it out in a closed off world. What about surprise raids?

It just sounds like the same old pre-play hype that every game has prior to having people actually play it. I'll probably find out soon enough with the Guild War event.

I'd suggest anyone who is deciding between WoW and EQ2 to try the WoW open beta, if you live in North America. At least then you can dismiss WoW if you don't like it.

I forgot that WoW is going to release with "locked servers" and they're preventing Euros without North American billing addresses from playing until the Euro launch. It might explain some of the anti-WoW comments from some....

WoW is still only another boring MMOG

It's still the likely game for the EQ addicts (4 year+ players) to go to, unless SOE will let them export their EQ players to EQ2. I'm sure quite a few companies would like to be the developers of the #1 MMORPG, even if some people consider the whole concept of a MMORPG to be boring.

Sounds like Guild Wars would be Diablo 3.. or Diablo 3D. Game worlds unique to a small group of players and a virtual 'Battlenet' chat room that you can meet players in, except it doesn't look like you can join games in progress like you could with D/D2 and get ganked (fun, sometimes). It makes sense since ex-bliz devs are making it.

I have read all the posts. Should any super-buffed player miss 5 times in a row againt a low level mob? I don't think they should, but this should not be that difficult to reproduce. They need more than screenshots of misses. What seem to make you hit more? Hit less? Does side-stepping make a difference? Does jumping make a difference? Position? Could be related to server lag? I can tell you that everyone saying they're missing only helps the devs a tiny bit. If they can't reproduce the problem themselves, it won't be fixed.

Maybe someone should record their gameplay and capture a series of 5 misses in a row against a very low level mob and make a movie file out of it. The uber warrior movie that showed the overpowered combo moves was a great way to get the point across. There probably is a bug, but they need to be able to reproduce the problem in oder to fix it.

I doubt they'd hold off OB because of the miss bug. No one person has quantified the problem enough for the internal QA guys to reproduce the problem.. making it look like it's all in the player's heads. What they need to have is a file containing the entire combat details of the player. The screenshots with the small snippet of the combat log isn't cutting it. Plus, they should add more exact detail in the log for the reason for each miss (miss due to skill check, miss due to distance from mob, miss due to not facing mob).

A recent post by a tester said that jumping once before starting the fight helped "re-synch" his character with the server and allow him to hit. He said it was almost as if the server thought he was still running even though he stopped to swing at a mob. It was the same bug with spells not being able to be cast because the player was still "moving".

I think you should try the WoW open beta when it comes out and see for yourself. I don't know if EQ2 is going to have one or not.

I like your theory better

I already know I won't be disappointed, as I've already played in the stress test. I'll probably skip OB and wait for release.

EDIT: to make that Nov 1st OB date, they'd better start the signups now...

Blizzard has really clamped down on the release of any new information for the last few weeks, which tells you it's obviously crunch time. They're locking all the speculative posts that mention the timing of the EQ2 release on their boards. Since you'll have an easier time squeezing info out of a stone, you might as well go with this theory:

Open beta signups on/before Nov 1st, open beta starts on Nov 8th and goes gold soon after (with an obvious release day patch coming). Open beta lasts 2 weeks and release day is on the week of Nov 22nd.

VU is going to push to try to negate the EQ2 release. Open beta is the obvious way to do it. I guess we'll see how much pull Blizzard has, assuming they want to hold it up for more time.

Don't fall into his political trap

As for the timing of the dates, who said anything about lying? They're competing companies attempting to "one up" each other in the MMORPG market.

Have played with 3 different characters now, highest being a lvl 26 warrior. My first MMORPG. I don't know how the games before this compare, but I'm telling you, this is FUN!

I'm hearing alot of comments like that. I think Blizzard has managed to pull in many people that never played MMORPGs before. It's definitely the right game to start off the genre with. The UO/EQ launches were pretty rough.

Do you think EQ2 will end up being an AC2? SOE probably has enough resources to prevent that from happening, but I still get that impression.
