Can't wait for someone to release directx for dos!
I thought Doom 3 wasn't going to be level-based because of extremely long load times, but instead be more of a load as you go.
Of course, this is based on my fading memory of something I read 2 years ago or so...
I believe its a combination of both, level based, but not all of the level will be loaded at once, instead it will load the level in sections like HL.

As for the rest of the system spec's (like the CPU), I'd say that if the current high-end CPU's can't handle the Ultra mode, then it won't be too far into next year that they can.
Actually the plan stated that current high end systems could handle ultra fine, and that many maps don't have much more than 256MB of textures and you can run ultra with the 256MB cards. Its just that some maps have a lot higher, and you run into slowdowns when there is a lot of swapping between system ram and video card ram. So it won't auto select ultra on something less than 512MB, but it doesn't preclude you from using ultra.

Sweet, first I've heard of OGG used in a game.
Also is interesting when they mentioned how 256MB of system RAM was actually enough, but that it starts to have problems with transitions from one area to the next (does this mean continual loading like HL instead of definate levels?). So I guess you could play with 256MB, but you'd have to save quit and reload game periodically????

I have to ask what do you need with 8 speakers?
One new thing I noticed from the show is when they talk about ambient sounds. The part where you hear the woman crying about her baby, was just freaky. I can definatly assume this is gonna be a scary game.

It was specifically stated just the other day that 4 player was definatly changable by mods, and that the engine could support many more. And that its set at that because the MP maps it comes with are designed for 4 players. I'm assuming if ID ever releases new maps that are bigger, they would set the player limit higher for those maps.

Don't worry, rummor are that it includes support for new broken ankle technology. Simply insert your foot into motherboard and scream in pain, sue MB manufacture for sharp pointy things on MB. Profit? No.. Buy new computer!
