Thats funny, because thats what the Libertarian canidate says about us fighting the War on Terror. That its like trying to destroy a nest of wasp with a baseball bat. He says we should be out of it, and only use force to retaliate if attacked. Though the nuke the whole nest argument sounds good to me too
I don't know about main graphics Guru, I think that would be a lot of work, and hopefully the man wants some rest. But I think he could have a lot to offer simply in new ideas. Didn't he create the very idea of programmable pixel shaders? No one in their right mind would even think of such an idea, cept Carmack of course. Hopefully he will continue to impart new ideas while still getting the break he needs.
Personally I think the decline in CS enrollment is a very good thing. There are WAY too many people enrolled in CS degrees who simply do not have the ability to really grasp the information. CS degrees have been dumbed down for these people in many colleges also. Hopefully this will mean more qualifies degrees, and the degree actually meaning something.
One correction saying modem users are only 4% of Steam's user base is a bit misleading. Modem users are a large user base of Valve games, but most of them have not signed up to Steam for the sole reason that they are on modems. These users who legitimatly bought valve games are not able to update their games because they realize that adding steam would hurt their experience.
You know they have this wonderful new invention called window blinds, or even walls. It really is possible for it to be dark inside.
Well the driver might look peachy. But the actualy program daemon tools is installed and has registry entires and the like. So they probably look for the program itself, not its drivers.
But it does mean that people will be able to release standalone games. Though technically you won't be allowed to release any of the Q3 art with it. So you'll have to create all your own textures and such. Sucks. Maybe they will put the price for those real low for interested parties.

This only helps for getting the game installed. It won't get the game running on 98.
Q3 engine source doesn't give you the source to all the maps does it?
I read somewhere that turning on vsync can help with artifacts in Doom3. Note don't bother turning it on in your driver config, doom3 will override this. Turn it on in game.

You're saying you've never inadvertingly aquired even a single peice of spyware or trojan (the same thing really). I don't believe it. You've run spybot recently havn't you? Just to check. You really would be surprised.
You can't be serious, gonna sit on it till you can play it in its full glory. Personally I don't believe you, you know you won't be able to sleep at night if you decide to sit on it. Either way from what I understand the graphics should be amazing on just a FX5900, no degration in quality of gameplay, just not quite as pretty.
Though if your determined to get rid of your FX5900 I'll gladly take it off your hands (running on a ATI9200se right now)

No they don't have to defend it or loose it, thats trademarks. Plenty of companies only use patents defensivly when either someone deliberatly steals something, or when someone is suing them. To use this patent is any other way especially against a developer who developed the method completly independantly is an abuse of the public trust.
You can run doom3 looking a lot better than that from reports on a low end GF4. So no you don't need to buy a $400 card. And I'm sure if you have no plans to play doom3 frequently. You could borrow it from a friend.

From what I understand all the screenshots we've seen are "Normal" settings. Its just id decided to be future proof the engine a bit, and give it room to stretch for future technology. So that you could get an even better experience when the next generation of cards comes out. I havn't heard of any game doing this before. (Besides the obvious I'm getting 200fps in quake3, the game looks soooo much better than your 90fps)
