Where will the funding come from?

Have you never seen any indie games, indie movies, punk rock, anything?

It comes from passion - working day jobs, and working on the projects with passionate coworkers. That's where the funding comes from.

If you look at the "map of the US media" you'll be wrong about saying that about FOX and Viacom. Viacom has shares in both Vivendi Universal and Universal (movies etc).

With the Vivendi and Universal thing... that's why I said Vivendi and Universal and then went onto say News Corps and Viacom. I knew they were apart of the same company, so is Universal just extinct as a singular entity entirely then? No.

It's pretty crappy not being able to log into Steam. The amount of design and projections that went into this project have to be astounding. I would say Valve were completelyt negligent with the amount of servers and bandwidth they can allow. I've seen their charts; they probably expected this to happen.

On the good side of Steam. I think Steam is a gret decision. I don't think the main reason for Steam was for security and anti-piracy reason. I believe that Steam could revolutionize independent companies.

This is important, especially if you're a very small company that can't even get a publisher. We don't need Vivendi, FOX, Viacom or any of those greedy idiots running the video game industry now do we? I mean look what they've done to TV and movies! Screw the big corporations, I think Valve was extremely punk rock about getting Vivendi to sign a contract when Valve knew that they didn't know about their plans for Steam - which will take away chunks of money from the evil, right-wing crapheads at Vivendi and Universal, as well as NEWS CORPS, and VIACOM who own them.

I can see where people believe Vampires to be "classy". There is and has always been a particular elitism amongst pen and paper players and CRPG players. There IS more content in the games, there ARE more ways the player is "free" to play.

Where this elitism fails is certainly considering one is never "free" playing a video game. At least for now, I'm sure intelligent AI, streamlining and randomness in content will arrive shortly. Consider the "freeformedness" of Morrowind. It's not completely freeform, you're never outside of a designed game from the developers.

What we have are complete differences in designed content over Half-life 2 and Vampires. I understand that to some degree Vampires might be more appealing or "artsy" and thus "classy". I don't necessarily believe this to be true. I find the dystopian police-state and great story-line to be just as classy as Vampires Bloodlines "freeness" and discreetness. They are completely two different genres, with different design rules and regiments... I pretty much think that both of these games are "top-notch" for their genres and that's what these irrelevent types of arguments boil down to. They're different top-notch games; "class" shouldn't be involved in the process unless you're speaking about the class you intend to play in the game.

Hey ya'll I found a review of Bloodlines from evilavatar's site.

http://www.consolegold.com/Reviews/review/293.html

Get's a pretty good score, man oh man, which one do I get - a great, dark, 60+ hour RPG with no multiplayer by my favorite developers who once worked for Black Isle on Fallout 2, or a masterpiece FPS by my favorite developers of FPS's with a 16 hour limit, and CS?

I love both the futuristic Orwelllian police-state feel, and I love immersivesemi-freeform dark games. This is such a tough choice.

Man since I started gaming in around 1988 I've never seen this amount of great games released around the same time period.

It's a shame that I'll have to postpone Vampire Bloodlines until December or January. I'm actually looking forward to the actual gameplay in Vampires than I am in Half-life 2, but considering HL2 ships with Counter-strike and steam is so secure, and then think of all of the mods. I just have to buy HL2 first.

I really don't understand where the PR people are at with Troika. Why didn't they ship a demo, or leak the game before HL2 came out to hype it? It may be totally lost under this behemoth.

And now Pirates comes out?! ARGHH! I can't afford all of these. Well at least I won't be getting another computer for a while so I can bask in this time period in games for a while.

It doesn't really matter considering Vivendi is merged with many upon many of America's hardest monopolies. Universal, NBC, as well as FOX, as well as the largest of them all who owns most of them... News Corps and Viacom. Notice I said, global. They're all apart of eachother, mostly American, no matter where they work.

I'm just trying to warn people so they don't get sued, not start an argument over the shittiness of America (I live here).

I was curious as to what other agencies might be involved in these highly anticipated events and I found the SEC was involved in tracking bittorrent activity tonight. The SEC - Securities and Exchange Commission, www.sec.gov on a second attempt at connecting to a Vampire Bloodlines torrent file. So, let me warn ya'll again!

I'd like to mention this out of the... *blue*, that Vivendi Universal IS monitoring pirating tonight. I was downloading Vampire Bloodlines (I'm going to buy it OK, but don't know how it'd hold up in court!!), and had peer guardian on in the first few seconds of my bittorrent downloading that Vivendi had been blocked.

Out of paranoia, you know, considering I HATE, HATE, HATE the corporations of America and their facist, global, takeover - that Vivendi *probably* has a lot more IP addresses that peer guardian does not block. If you're downloading tonight - I'd encourage you to suspend and delete.

Good night, and I can't wait to go and buy Half-life 2 and Vampire on Wednesday (payday).

The internet has become such a scummy subscription based place. I thought it was supposed to be about information anarchy. As to paying for games and sites, not to mention netflix... I don't have time or money for any of it. On top of rent, beer, food the important things... what's the point? I don't want to be sucked dry. It's like paying monthly for healthcare, but all you get it a shitty drug subscription. No thank you, I'll stick to CS: Source, its free, and I can only spend like 30 minutes in it because I suck so bad that I log off in frustration. Free, frustration is the way to go with online games

As for Guild Wars, did anyone play that? What the hell what that crap about?! It lacked SOULLLL, and two days is not enough to search for it. Just seemed like a better version of Dungeon Siege to me.

It seems like a lot of reviewers are sort of positive about Doom 3, but disappointed.

I think there are a few factors that these people are forgetting, moderation and the psychedelia.

I'm not going to nerd out in front of this game like many of these reviewers, unfortunately I'm very happy with my social life and my work -- so there is no need for me to nerd out until 3am.

The other is the fact that this game I know for a fact (although I haven't done it yet) is a great game to get stoned with because it is sooo psychedelic. Just stare at a messed up computer screen a bit, stare at the screen when you die... being sober staring at these things is really enticing me to get a fat sack and sit there and get crazy with that amazing ambient sountrack.

I think people are taking this a little too seriously, I'm no metal head but I listen to stoner rock and grind every once in a while just for the insane experience. This game isn't Splinter Cell -- its not supposed to be complicated -- but I really feel that this game is very inspired by metal and drugs. I'm all about it. Smoke some weed, shut your mouth, and take it in moderation -- this game is really amazing.

So I wish I could download Doom 3 for tonight, but I know for one I WANT that box, the manual, I want everything. I feel like most of those thousands are also going to buy the game. Maybe people who are for some reason more enthused by Half-life 2 need to try the game first to really know how epic and atmospheric this game is and will probably end up buying it.

In the end I don't think id will lose much money at all, I think downloading is apart of the PR machine and I think developers should relax, maybe not embrace but only time will tell.
