I got over this game when I played the demo. Don't get me wrong, it upped the anti on Duke Nukem features, it also feels a little like Shadow Warrior, it's got the 3D Realms cheese factor. The graphics look sort of like greased rubber. And for the swearing - the F word a couple of times doesn't make a game more mature, it only adds to the cheese level. Don't get me wrong, I say the F word like the word "I" or "the". Oh and the gravity? We've played Descent. Probably a good game for early teens, though - if they can get it.

Can anyone really compare System Shock 2 to HL2... or Deus Ex for that matter? Those games might be FPS, but they are not pure action.

Last time I checked Hydrahead's new releases - none of their bands had much to say in regard to politics. Because they're a trend. Hardcore has been so trendy for years, I got out of it when it started getting cheesy like that. But that doesn't matter considering a lot of hardcore has always been consistent in politics whether it was right or left.

But for me, I have to go old school and this is where I have to say (satirically): go listen to some real hardcore when politics mattered: go listen to some His Hero is Gone or some Econochrist, or some Born Against or some Man is the Bastard... or... or... or... or... haha. But that would be playing into the whole left, right & right & wrong type of thing I despise.

Whoa MapleBob...

Who's the delusional one here? Enviro-wacktovists? Are you crazy? Who was talking about being open-minded anyway? Obviously you are very open-minded out of the parameters to think we were even discussing being open-minded.

Beamer: You see one of the problems with America is short-term goals. By saying the left never will have any power (which is false many leftist people get into power and do inspire people to try to change a screwed up society) so trying to work with a corrupted system is totally the trap the extremely rich people want to lure everyone into. A country that is completely controlled by their investors. It doesn't have to be that way, and it will be for a long time, yes, but it's all about working towards something better in the longrun.

Weren't you the one who said you listened to Isis? I guess Hydrahead must just be a marketing tool these days. That's sad.

There are a bunch of novels out which study the misconception of the media being "left". It is the myth of the liberal media. But again when you are speaking in terms of left and liberal there is a very distinct line. Liberals are whiny moderates. Do you really think that a bunch of conservative run corporations and mergers would really cater to the left?

So what leftist media are you watching Beamer? I don't see anything that rivals Indymedia, Al-Jazeera or even the BBC on network TV. You must just mean "liberal". But democrats are nearly just as bad as republicans.

The only media outlet that could be consider left is Comedy Central with the Daily Show and South Park, people always seem to think that PBS is left considering it's more truthful in documenting issues. But, just because they're more truthful and in covering important and timely subjects doesn't make them left. They're liberal, yes, left - no.

"How do we keep from geting to that point? Where would you draw the line?"

I definitely agree with some of StaTik's comments. But I'm not sure if I was forced to submit my personal info or not. I didn't even think twice about it registering my HL2. But, usually I do.

The future implications are all around us. What scares me is a right-wing country that is so brainwashed by the corporate right-wing owned media, that all these statistics on what is bought could swing more people to the right extremism of our society because of marketing to the statistics and thus flood the market with subversive conservatism. Fear and propaghanda creates that staple of American society: fear, consume and hate.

Luckily the more extreme the American society gets the bigger the underground gets. Already in San Francisco people are setting up guerilla TV stations and it only costs $500 to get your message to a 7 mile radius on "network TV".

People should think a little and be more cautious... I'm not really sure if Valve is really apart of the evil... but all of the info might be going to Vivendi... which DEFINITELY is n't a good thing in my mind. I think what StaTik is implying IS on the horizon, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Corporations just love to advertise and corruptly and unethically stick up for their investors and sponsors.

Hehe, I bought the game...

but I did pirate CS:S before it came out. Regardless, isn't stealing an America tradition? If it weren't for colonialism, imperialism and murderously greedy empire (and also as sickening as it is to say: rascism) none of us would be here and the planet would probably be a better place, haha. I'm being ironic and I laugh, but I'm also semi-serious.

I do know what you're saying though. It is people's dumb faults for trying to steal this game as compared to other games. Valve did spend 40 mil on it, and everyone knew that Steam wasn't there just to serve up a few files. It was obvious this would happen. Not that I agree with it.

Why be excited?

Have you ever played Firaxis' last game Alpha Centauri?

Umm... that's why; Sid Meier and Firaxis are exceptional developers and Sid Meier always has been.

HAHA, JACK! You should probably think about the fact that we started a war with Iraq without JUST cause. Hows 'bout thems Geneva Conventions?

No politics in Video games? Man the last time I checked Fallout 2 I remember them making fun of that cult of a religion Scientology, and also citing some beautifully read Chomsky. That makes for a great game. Politics should be everywhere. Maybe if there were more RPGs that informed people we wouldn't have Jacks like this blindly stating their right-wing network TV reguritated ideas... well maybe then people would just regurgitate the politics of the video game... and that wouldn't be much better, but at least that's better than right-wing, blind, brainwashed, evil, puppets. See, I like arguing with myself too.

Haha true that.

Hey Beamer, I recently bought Switchblade's new album which is on Deathwish... man I wasn't so impressed with it. It was like a boring version of Isis. But I remember when Switchblade was freaking so chaotic and brutal. Ah well.

Haha sorry man I though you were raggin on me too. That's cool you know about them... yeah I don't know, a lot of people consider them "post punk" up there with the Theoretical Girls, Lydia Lynch, Gang of Four, and you know I don't want to list out of fear of being an elitist shit hehe. But, yeah, I don't know why any of them were and are considered post punk considering they were apart of the punk movement during th elate seventies. I guess it was just some people's punk movements were totally different than others.

Haha production artist

Yes I know what goes into it, maybe if you had some ingeniuty you'd be able to figure it out yourself. It's not like I got to my position here thinking about what not do. Yeah I know NOFX too! I know Green Day, I know the Misfits, we do all of their shit, do you think I care about them? Hell no, their art is crap, and their music sucks (old Misfits rules though). I just got done doing a Green Day crew shirt for their NYC shows, it looks retarded, that's what they pay for.

Don't you guys get me started on REAL punk. I'm glad someone mentioned the Slits, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for "post-punk".

How did Green Day get there to be able to pay for crap? By doing it. With passion... then money came along. That's how it works chump.

Hmmm... I'm checking my records for last week and since I could be without a job mentioning the actual numbers I can't mention the names, or the numbers. Let's just say that Fat Wrecks and obviously NOFX and Fat Mike are doing pretty well.

Beamer: I work in the punk rock industry. I've listened to mostly hardcore my entire life. I wasn't comparing HL2 to punk, I was comparing the fact that with Steam type applications that small developers could go the full extent without a major publisher. That's punk rock. Most of the bands I used to listen to were run by one other person as well... it's not something amazing, it's a known fact in the underground.
