It probably goes along the lines of :

From Valve

HAHAHA we've taken LOADS of cash and can't be fucked anymore so we're shutting down steam and all copies of HL2.

Enjoy your coasters.

You're an irresponsible twit. Let me ask you - how much food, clothes, or even books for your children would that $50 have bought? How much electricity to keep their house warm in the winter?

Instead of spending the little money you have on amusing yourself with toys (like video games), maybe you ought to think for a moment about your family instead of your own indulgences. What kind of an example are you giving for them to follow?

It makes me furious that someone as selfish and irresponsible as you is even allowed to have children.

And no - poverty is not a license to steal. I'd cut you slack if you were stealing milk or bread, but we're talking about an F'ing GAME here. If you can't afford a LUXURY, then do without. That's what I did when I was poor.

The only reason I have this game is because I am walking a 6 mile round trip every day for two weeks but still claiming travel expenses (slap wrist bad boy). I would NEVER endanger my childrens health/wellfare by buying games instead of buying them food/clothes/books/sweets etc ad infinitum. The fact I finished the game this weekend but still had another 60 miles walking (48 now yea!) before it was paid off makes every step heavier.

To the guy that correctly pointed out my system specs if you notice no part of my pc is newer then 18 months old (about the same time I got made redundant) but it is all very capable of playing HL2.

My offense was taken to somebody saying he'd bought two copies so how could someone bitch about buying one - um quite easily 15hrs gameplay/30ukp = 2 pounds per hour! 2 copies is more expensive per hour then seeing the latest greatest film of all time at the most expensive cinema in london (but not the travel there :-).

I'm not going into the fatherhood issues here but I have GOOD kids - beyond good almost painfully good, good to the point of their gonna get bullied if they don't kick back a bit at school good.

I'm trying to understand how a person with 3 kids on welfare would even consider purchasing Half Life 2. I would assume he was referring to the droves of people who obviously CAN afford the game but choose to warez it.

Actually it came down to a straight choice between walking the 6 mile roundtrip to my latest centre every day and claiming the fares anyway or buying HL2!

Having paid for two copies; wondering how hard it is to pay for just one,
Ray H

WANKER. You obviously don't live in an area with no work, a games costs 50% of welfare for the week (which most people are on) trying desperatly to bring up three kids.

NEVER wonder how hard money is for some people because you don't wanna know!

PS Yes we did buy it but we couldn't afford it.

And so it begins. Word on the grapevine is also they will be issuing a Sims 2 EA Franchise Expansion - the aim of which will be to milk cows for as much cash as possible.

ok last question from me. Why is Massive Attack not creditted for their song "Angel" which plays everytime you go to the menu or character sheet.

It was bugging the hell out of me as I knew the song well but had no idea what it was called - then I remembered it was on the Snatch soundtrack!

Also how come the Angel track plays over the top of whatever the background music is playing - makes for a very discordant menu system that wants you to back up to the main game asap!

Ah, but if you read what you quoted, i asked why do all FPS/RPG hybrids have to be this way? Nothing to do with Vampire, really. Only Morrowind is the exception, and that game isn't an FPS. I absolutely love the concept of FPS/RPG hybrids, and it's really frustrating getting motion sickness with every single one of them because they all have that same "close quarters, dark colors" theme going for them. It would also be great if an FPS/RPG hybrid would lean towards FPS more than RPG. Neither SS2 or Deus Ex games were action heavy. And neither games were especially great for FPS fans. These hybrid games aren't doing a good job of hybriding.

Fair point - however I don't think anyone has done a FPS/RPG hybrid except Morrowind that wasn't extremely dark in subject matter.(I have a proclivity towards playing archers if given the choice so for me Morrowind was leaning into FPS).

The problem with an FPS/RPG leaning more towards FPS would be what you are basically talking about is a FPS with an RPG's story and maybe inventory but without the whole stat levelling up thing right?

That seems to be the holy grail of FPS's. Getting a story you can believe in - Doom 3 tried with it's PDA's ,bless it's little heart. Far Cry didn't even bother trying and from what I've heard the plot of HL2 is one of the weaker aspects. The line between lame, sorry leet, sorry whatever, teenangers wanting the latest and greatest twitch shooter (u2k4 I'm looking at you) and a slower paced but more involving strokey beardy dwarf encrusted RPG is soooooooooo narrow that anyone coming close normaly wins so many game of the year awards they end up buying bigger offices!

PS Blue please put on a preview function!

PPS Activision broke into my shed - one of the pictures in the crackhouse is a copy of some topless lesbian called Sapho which my wife has but I hid out there one day while she was shopping. We used to hang it in the toilet to freak guests out but she has decidedly wonky boobs and put me off pooing after a while.

Why do all FPS/RPG hybrids have too be so damn claustrophobic and dark all the time? lol.

Because the pitch for "Hugalot's adventures in Care-a-lot: A Care Bear Adventure" was turned down by Matel due to the excessive use of large bear boobs on all the female carebears.

FFS Your a vampire - what did you expect sunshine and butterflies????

graphics is really bad considering it's using Source

ahh but then again if you remember Super Mario 64 it was absolutley awesome simply because the N64 was made to fit the game. No 3rd party could equal it for 1-2 years. Could this be what we're seeing here?

I run a p4 2.6c, 1 gig'o'ram and a 9800pro: 1024x768 with everything@full; my loading times have not been longer than 5 seconds...anywhere

oh yeah forgot to mention the load screens - mine are around the same times on the same kinda midspec machine (120gb 7200rpm IDE not SATA or SCSI). Certainly nothing instrusive at all - nothing like the last Quake 3 engine games!

All I care is that it's like Deus Ex. Great story, RPG elements, etc.

Yeah a bit too like Deus Ex - the texture work on the buildings etc is almost excatly like Deus Ex 1. Game is great apart from the fact I keep expecting to see JC Denton walk past me at any moment.

Character models are in general pretty good - maybe they had put in a lot of work on the quake 3 engine and only updated the characters for Source???

Also it really chugs on mine if it starts to rain! XP2400+ 1Ghz mem 9800Pro 1024x768 graphics high, No AA/AF

um oops guess my memory is worse than I thought:

Rumor #2: Reflections Interactive is planning a special edition of the Atari-published Driver 3.

Source: An e-mail from a GameSpot reader.

The official story: "This would be news to me. Sounds pretty unlikely though, eh?" --Atari spokesperson.

What we heard: Late in the week, GameSpot received a message that read as follows: "I have inside information on Reflections! Reflections Interactive knows Driver 3 could be a kick-ass game, but the technical problems held it back, this is why Reflections is redoing it, the are fixing all the bugs in Driver 3 and will release it in spring 2005, called Driver 3: Special Edition. This new version of Driver 3 will also include four new levels and a sneak preview of Stuntman 2!" While certainly enthusiastic, the e-mail overlooked some cold hard facts--namely, that the Driver 3 was one of Atari's most highly anticipated titles of 2004, as Enter the Matrix was in 2003. Like Enter the Matrix, the game was an initial financial success but received a critical drubbing. Given the subsequent backlash against the game, it is unlikely that there would be a market for a special edition of Driver 3--which would likely have to be sold at a bargain price point--to justify further development dollars. A similar rumor was floated earlier this year about the PC Halo-wannabe Breed. That scenario had developer Brat Designs releasing a much-improved version the critically savaged version of the game, which was allegedly severely modified by publisher CDV and released under protest from Brat. That didn't happen. But, unlike Driver 3, Breed didn't sell more than 500,000 units.

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus.

I read the other day they are making a "directors cut" version for the consoles which will fix the bugs.

Maybe they'll port it after that.
