Hmm never got to the end to see the 'vagina' the first 30 mins or so were brilliantly atmospheric but once you've killed the same beastie 50 times it stops being scary. Last thing I remember was climbing up a cliff to get back to the mansion and being attacked by humans - I might brave spider central and grab it from the shed for another blast though!

Pity iD never played Undying - they might have realised that horror fps games only work for a short time before they stop being scary!

Soley looking at the screenshots and seeing the difference between Doom I and Doom III with better graphics this mod, for me, really showed how much Doom III is a direct sequel with no serious improvements over the original.

Looking at the mods screenshots - although you knew it was Doom I remade it still had the same viscaral feel of Doom III. This could only mean two things - Doom I was even more advanced then any of us thought or Doom III was a ten year old game in new clothes.

I know which my money is on.

To put speculations to an end:

official release date HL²-original: Nov 16
first appearance of working steam-rips on the net: Nov 18

If your talking about the Emporio release it was "nuked" - along with all the fixes, most people who actually got it to run at all were banned in the first round of steam accounts that were shut down. Maybe it worked for 1% but who really wants to risk the chance.

The Vengence release on the 28th was the first rip that wasn't "nuked". 2 days may be no victory but 12 is a huge one!

Yes, they have! Only a few days after the release of HL². So much for "Steam - Teh New Holy Shrine of Copy Protection" ... muhahahahaha! But Steam is quite good enough to harass it's legal customers, like every crappy copy protection.

Actually it was November the 28th that the fully cracked version came out - although for all I know that's the one that has been banned this time.

2 weeks grace is a long enough time to convince all but the most die hard pirates to buy a copy. After all as someone pointed out you could get D3 warezed before it was released.

On a side note the cracked version is allegidly faster then the retail one because it does not need steam loaded etc.
Don't know if this is true or not because I'm not about to download it and try it!

Can I be fallout as well.

The screen shots are SOOO similar - I'm sure it doesn't play the same but the look and viewpoint are such a blatant ripoff it's painfull.

The Half Life 2 Benchmark 2 on guru 3d among others might delete your autoexec.cfg. Make sure you use the in app update before you run it.

On a side note this is the first time I've seen half life 2 for 10 days and have been playing TCOR:EFBB (PC) for the last few hours and have to say the riddick beats HL2 hands down. Story, immersion (you see yourself and your shadow looks around when you do), interaction (no more mute characters!) all coupled with a GFX engine easily on a par with Doom 3 or hl2.

The only thing thing that seems to be lacking is the pysics of HL2.

Yup that's how the first two worked - kinda sucky.

Hoping for Typing of the Dead III though - that was great!

Best bet is a PS2 to USB converter as the Sony PS2 pads do rule the world! (it's true Bush is controlled by one - but it's a cheap knockoff and the autofire is stuck on =)

If your in the uk you can pick them up for a tenner from game (although a proper sony pad will cost £20 if you don't have one)

The comparison is valid, both games use the same technology but one has vastly superior performance to the other.

I still think this may be a issue of an engine built for a game (far cry) rather than a game built for a engine (doom 3). Only the next non-valve Source game will resolve this issue!

BTW has anyone heard of any game using the farcry, painkiller or kreed ( )engines - and the game that licensed the serious sam engine sucked big donkey balls. In truth only the iD and Unreal engines have been licensed to any success I can think of except possibly counter strike (which is a SERIOUSLY grey area).

Too add my two bit's I'd also say people calling this mediocre or worse because of a few graphical glitches etc are retards.

Reviewer's have problems you say - not fing suprised I say - the ammount of changes, codecs, games, apps etc put onto they're machines must be incredible. Then when something goes wrong - they have a deadline so phone IT and an anarok turns up.

I would say the whole game feels very mechanical - although the character graphics are good the whole thing just feels jerky and mechanical.

Still loveing it (and have had no crashes at all - little own show stoppers!)

Yeah and when you start it it welcomes you to the open beta - it also bought up a web browser where I could buy scrolls etc using online payment.

The game itself does seem to be free though - on the surface it just seems to be a standard mmorpg.

My only issue - and it is a relatively minor one - is the story. I really wanted to load up HL2 and immediately be taking it to the invading forces, have the G-Man immediately send me on some mysterious errand, or even play up the "WTF is going on here???" aspect. Unfortunately, though fantastic, the main chunk of the game is kind of a "Escape, escape, escape" feeling and then everything gets crammed into the end bits. Honestly, I would wonder if something was sacrificed for time or if the "end" segment was moved up a bit, leaving the remaining portions for the expansion packs and inevitable sequel.

Yeah I would also agree with this - the story in HL2 is weaker then ANY fps I can think of - including thr past masters of the plotless killing, iD. Even Quake 2 you at least knew why you were fighting.

I've nearly clocked it (as shown by the abismal introduction of chapter browsing in New Game) but have no idea what the hell is going on - why are the Combine (I can accept a totalitarisim state) using headcrabs and barnicles????

On a side note the AI in HL2 seems to have regressed - in HL1 it was stunning - enemey troops ducked for cover and were a general PIA. Now enemey troops seem to follow very set patterns and your allies are CONSTANTLY standing in your way.

Even if the plot is uncovered in the "third reel" the AI still points to a significant dumbing down of the HL franchise - in fact the only enemy the seems to need outsmarting is the awesome gunships!
