It was my understanding that Doom 3 was just a retelling of the first one so all the "old tricks" were going to be used. If a straight ahead shooter is not your cup of tea then that's cool of course.

Oddly enough I kind of agree with you but the presentation of it (graphics, sounds, story) actually made it all enjoyable for me.

I read about the first two paragraphs of the Gamezilla review and gave up on it. First, that review, like about 10 others I read used the word "duality" in the first sentence. Dang it just say you thought some parts sucked if you think some part sucked!

Second, he said the "multiplayer let me down." Gee, cause the game's focus is single player?!

bah...

On the Mars Base map they show an area as "inaccessible." If I recall correctly (secret text)

There's a hallway with a busted pipe on fire. Walk through there, grab the PDA by the dead soldier and that has the code for the combat prep room

Done with secret text

Oh.. wow, you just opened up a great possiblity: recreate moments in history using the Doom 3 engine!!

- Washington crossing the Delaware. Check! (an imp with a Napolean hat.. how cuuuuuuuute)
- Japanese pinky demons surrendering on the USS Missouri. Check!
- The flag being raised on Iwo Jima. Check!
- Lincoln being shot by Jon Wilkes Hellknight. Gotcha!

Awesome.

Athlon64 3000+
1 Gig of 3200 RAM
RAID 0 Config across 2 drives with Serial ATA
Radeon 9700 Pro with 3.7 drivers.

Runs great. I run high detail/1024x768. I have AA at 2x and I have V-sync off. No visible tearing despite this.

I've put some of the tweaks I've read about into an autoexec.cfg (gun blasts, etc). I have turned off my personal shadow but all other shadows run fine.

I know a lot of other reviews complain about the "monster behind door and hit the trigger to open it" cliche, but personally I don't care. They're targets and I got a load of ammo for 'em. Gimme cheap thrills and belt fed ammo any day in my single player shooters!

I love the mod community!

The first MOD crew to come up with a GRAPPLING HOOK will forever be my heros. God I miss playing Quake/Quake 2 CTF with the grappling hook.

THREEWAVE DOOM3 CTF, Please!

You nancyboy whiners who want it brighter:

Bring down console
r_gamma 2
r_brightness 2

Probably even go higher if you want. Or maybe they'll make a "night light mod" and your mommy will come out and give you some warm milk and cookies, too.

Crybabies.

Hyquality, did you see my response to your original posting of this in post #25? You originally asked about video drivers and how to get older version?

You might also try the Omega Drivers for your card.

hyquality:

I went through their normal windows to choose the OS/video card type/etc.

They post the most recent driver but at the bottom of that page there's a link for "old drivers"

That's what worked for me.
Be sure, of course to uninstall your old drivers, reboot the machine, cancel out of plug and play, and run the drivers EXE program to install the drivers.

I CAN'T get my game to work for some reason. The screen becomes all scrambled when the main menu loads up and then my computer crashes completely. I bought a brand new computer for this! All my other games work fine (Generals, UT2004, etc.) I have all the latest video/sound/directx drivers. I tried re-installing the game and all the drivers, no luck.

I was having system crashes on mine with a 9700Pro vid card. The game would stutter then the screen would go gray.

I went back one iteration of the drivers from ATI and things worked a lot better. No lock ups. I also have NOT installed those beta video drivers that were released yesterday.

What I'm enjoying is the fact that the rooms and walls have depth. You're not just looking at a bitmap image of a wall but now you actually see a wall, behind some pipes, which are behind some consoles. Some of which you can can explore and go into the floor or wall or whatever.

Now if only I could figure out how not to run out of ammo. Hmmm.. does idkfa still work.. haha..

No instructions included for a dedicated server and the best part is you have to have a CD in the drive of the server to even run the dedicated server. Brilliant idea Activision!!

Yeah, I know multiplayer isn't the point but I have a spare server at work with some games on it and wanted to add this one for some friends.

bummer...

Bah. By suggesting such names you make it sound like Doom needs to have a plot or that we even need to see the doom guy's face. Just put them on Mars, have the crusty but fair sergeants get killed in the first few minutes (that could be a big name actor in a bit role to throw off the crowd -- I'm thinking Kurt Russell), then it's just two hours of watching that poor sap of a marine avoiding death.

Dialouge in Doom?? bah!!!

Most important: every so often go first person on the camera view. Not the whole time but just once in a while.

Well heck yeah.. PBA 2005 is out on the Commodore 64. Now you can bowl against Pete Weber in glorious 16 color EGA and it only takes 4, that's right, 4!! 5 1/4" disks to load the game AND you can download the most up to the minute stats, figures, and apparel from your favorite BBS. So fire up Procomm and get connecting!

FYI Obama was a former junkie. Just thought you should know Halsy because you always liked to bring up GWB past drug use. Nice to know your idol used to smoke weed and crack. So sad.

-----------
Don't know the guy, I'm not in his district but I found this on his site (obamaforillinois.com)

Obama graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science and a specialty in international relations. He worked as a community organizer in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods, helping church groups create job-training programs, reform area schools, and improve city services.

He went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, Obama organized one of the largest voter registration drives in Chicago history to help Bill Clinton's election, and worked as a civil rights lawyer on cutting edge voting rights and employment discrimination cases in federal and state courts.

Currently a senior lecturer specializing in constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School, Obama has served on the boards of some of Chicago's leading foundations and chaired the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a $50 million philanthropic effort to reform the public schools.
