well with an RTS I'd like to see 'SOME' GUI. otherwise all you are looking at is a 3d engine, which is fine for an FPS, but do RTS gamers really care about the 3d engine? I prefer cossacks to AOE2 anyday, even though the graphcis are inferior, because of the gaemplay.
RTS games are not about eye candy, or at least, not to this hardened RTS addict they arent ;(

meh. got bored watching the website load. and I have broadband. What were they thinking?
And it seems an RTS with no GUI? or they just helpfully removed the GUI from the screenshots. Are they selling a 3D engine or a fricking game?
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

there is more than just the hype of one guy in a company the size of lionhead. People (esp the press) talk as if he writes the whole design doc, codes every line of code, and makes all the art.
Dont believe the hype machine. Look at the manual for the movies, and tell me what Peter did.

so?
derek smart dreams too big too. Saying "I have a l33t idea for a game" means fuck all. Delivering said game means everything.
I didnt read any pre-release hype about GalCiv2, but it blew me away. THAT is what we want

It wont change, but hopefully small companies will grow up to fill the gaps. Lionhead was once a small startup company (albeit with millionaire backing).
Whats sad is that now we have tons of tiny 1-3 man teams (like moi) and lots of big uber companies, but very few middle tier ones. Stardock is the only well known example that comes to mind. Hopefully some of us small guys will grow to fill the void.

flat fee means I pay the same for 1 hour a week as somebody with no life playing 6 hours a day. End result is, I just dont play.
Thats bad business.

6 million users is mad. thats why these games are always generic setups like a fantasy or depressing sci fi setting. You probably only need 100,000 players (on 1 server) for a game to feel like an MMO game. Aiming too high means you have to dumb down the setting and the design to appeal to everyone. Also, you get people on different servers, which ruins the whole point. Thats why Eve online is so cool.
Im looking forward to Pirates of the burning sea, but if its a fortune to purchase, and its a level grind, Ill probably skip on that.

why the assumption that an MMO must cost 30 million dollars? Thats insane. The first star wars movie cost dramatically less than that FFS.
I want an MMO without grinding and 'leveling up'
And heres the real killer app:
I want one that charges by usage, not monthly fees.
if an ISP can bill you per gigabyte, Im sure the tech exists cheaply for an MMO to charge you maybe $0.05 an hour or whatever. As things stand now, you have to choose whether or not to make a big commitment to a game each month. Im not that obsessed.
Id probably be playing 3 or 4 MMOs right now if I could be billed per hour online.

RON was nice, but I just tried this and.... meh.
I hate the way you can only zoom out about 2 feet. probably capped due to 3D rendering limits. that sucks ass. make the units low poly, nobody gives a toss, they want a good gameplay experience and tactical overview, not nice cinematics.
There doesnt seem to be anything here to get excited about. Certainly nor eason to give up Rise Of nations, Empire Earth 2, or Galciv 2.
Your mileage may vary.

I'm glad theres a demo now, even though I bought it unseen based on reviews. Given its high sales and universal praise, they could have skipped the demo entirely, but its good to hear that even mote people will be exposed to this superb game.
Does anyone know if the new upgarde nixes saved games? im wary of upgrading in the middle of my epic Torian battle

"Don't worry dude, nobody is going to confuse this with your game. And it will sell at least 100 times more. Even if it bombs. Disagree?"

Well I hope they dont, and I hope I sell more too. How much do these tv-tie in budget games sell anyway? 20,000? If thats the case, then I need to sell 200 not to lose face.... hmmmm hopefully my games gonna be better than that...

Indeed. Im working on a life sim myself, and although I fully expect this to be a terrible game, the concept of life sims is a good one. We do certainyl have enough RTS and FPS games now.
Sadly, this doesnt sound like some game designers have wanted for years to make a fun game around the concept, but more like someone bought a cheap TV licence and decided to throw together a budget game built around it.
I just hope it doesn't put people off the concept of life sims in general.

I love BF2, but havent played it in weeks. why? to be honest the damn thing takes too long to load, and thats even after i removed the marketing videos on startup. It can be 10 mins from clicking the icon to actually shooting in an online game.
Galciv 2 loads in under 20 seconds even with a huge map. So thats where I spend my time.
Long load times make games feel a chore. I wish reviewers would comment on them.

The thought of having to pay for a life-saving operation seems just damned cruel to me, but then I live in the UK. We have private health care, but a pretty damned good public system too. I dont resent a single tax penny that gets spent on our health service, thats for sure.

generally the first add-on for games is started before the actual game is finished. that way artists etc can produce content while the coders are just bug fixing and going through QA and translation. So the publisher makes a call as to how popular a game will be and decides on an expansion ahead of time.
Its when a game has 2 or more of them that you know its actually making financial sense.
