There is already an indie game called universal boxing manager, which apparently sells quite well.

WTF?
And how is being able to use a spear a totally original MMO experience?
This is getting surreal.

and the download (after finding it from 12 mouse clicks) dies at 300MB. Why cant these cheapskates host their own demo and make it simple?

it also acts as a nice way to cut people like me, who sell games direct to gamers without middlemen, out of the market. Effectively, microsoft become the console game publisher for the PC platform, with them deiciding what runs and what doesnt, and taking a huge chunk of the sales to boot.
If you value the quirkiness and independence of the PC platform, you will stay clear of systems like this.

agreed. this is a bit tragic. I'm releasing a patch for the game Kudos today, taking it to version 1.1. That adds all kinds of new stuff, like web surfing and a journalism career. I dont figure it to be earth-shattering news though.
But news about a future announcement about when a patch might come out? FTW!
Unless they fix voice spamming, I'm unlikely to be tempted back.

but assuming a 100 strong team, you think they 100 man years?
This game sadly looks like its heading duke nukem direction. another year? does that mean a whole year of slavering fanboy previews constantly between now and then?
I wish games developers would STFU until a month or two away from a playable demo ;(

well how much does it cost to run a server that hatrdly anyone is using? im guessing a few bucks a month at most. you centralsie your bandwidth, probably use a virtual server anyway, all you are paying for is a tiny shred of power and trivial support costs. Either lots of people are still playing them in which case this sucks, or hardly any are, in which case its hardly a big deal to keep the server up for such a small group.
I still respond to tech support enquiries for a game I released in 1997, I'd consider it fucking rude not to. It amazes me that you see 2005 on that list. 2000 maybe, but 2005????

sims2 is more directed. Teh sims have desires and wants for specific things, which you must satisfy for them. I preferred the more freeform sims 1 myself.

Grimace of skirmish is a great game, dont knock it.
You forgot rush to berlin, that came out soon. I can happily game for days just playing demos of WW2 RTS titles without needing to buy any. yay!

The difference is, some people find it really hard to identify with games that simulate the exotic. Thats the same reason that some people like watching 'friends' rather than Star Trek enterprise.
Some people say "who cares about the lives of some twentysomethings in new york. thats dull. I want action"
others say "I cant identify with some bloke with plastic tentacles stuck on his head. Give me something about people like me"
These are totally different mindsets. The trekkies will always find people watching sex and the city to be sad, the sex and the city bunch think the trekkies are sad. Its the same with game genres. Most people who love the sims would rather stab their own eyes out than play battlefield 2, and vice versa.

People are different

ironically I love the Sims AND battlefield 2, but we are a rare breed,

yeah ok, chess can suck because there are too many pre-planned strategies, but thats not the point. the point is, chess isnt ruined by its graphics

I appreciate your opinion, but hows it different from clicking a button to build a settlement in civ? In one game you are managing a civilisation, the other you are managing a single individual. At heart, its the same approach though, a turn based game where you allocate time and effort to different priorities.
