News Comments > Ships Ahoy - Stronghold 2
3. Re: wheres the demo? Apr 20, 2005, 12:07  cliffski

it was a great idea, but to be honest the graphical style really put me off, it looked very cluttered and messy. Hopefully the new ones better, they should get a demo out there so we can see for ourselves.

News Comments > Tycoon City: New York Announced
8. Re: Coming soon! Feb 10, 2005, 05:08  cliffski

Not all are bad. what about 'Starship Tycoon' (plug plug). But this sounds a bit limiting, I mean... Im british, if I could build any city I wanted maybe... but why New York? Who outside of america is really going to care about building this 'specific' city. The whole idea of tycoon games is to build things the way YOU want.

67. Seems like a load of cliched crap to me Feb 2, 2005, 08:55  cliffski

Firstly the instalelr wont run for me unless i pick windows 2000 compatibility mode, then I have to sit through some tedious 'intro' screens i cant skip, then i get a load of plot bullshit (if I want plot ill read a book this is an FPS), then I have to endure a laod of crappy americanese 'buddy talk' from my fellow clones.
And on top of it all the demo level is too dark and too like any other FPS.
Back to Sid Meiers Pirates! for me.

Damn right. He hit the nail right on the head, there are so many identikit news sites bleating on about the latest tedious FPS game, that's why sites like DIYGames.com are becoming more popular, people want to know what games are slipping under the mainstream radar.

1. 668 meg demo??????? Jan 14, 2005, 11:36  cliffski

do me a favour. even with broadband that's just stupid. The game could be a pile of kak. Make it a 50MB demo and maybe some people might downlaod it on the offchance.
558MB is insane, not to mention costing someone a fortune in bandwith.

10. Re: Things like this... Jan 5, 2005, 09:08  cliffski

well this could be seriously good, the first two were fine. But i hate the tone of these press releases. "We will excite gamers with... blah"
Jesus christ we are gamers not a bunch of sales executives. The only thing that matters is the screenshots, and most screenshots these days are doctored anyway.
Maybe once there is a demo, there will be something to be excited about, until then this is just some early screens and a lot of marketing dept bullshit.

No mention of the online price. I hope they dont pull a valve and price it the same (or more) for an online copy. Theres no CD and no manual, no shelf space or distribution, so it should easily be 5 cheaper.

Why give amateurish crap like this any coverage at all? Nobody is impressed by a bunch of morons trying to *shock* all of us anymore. Its pretty obvious those people dont have the ability to make a proper game.

13. Re: Sure WW2 games feel tired...but.... Dec 10, 2004, 08:09  cliffski

heh. good point.

Im sick of this gung ho glorifying of US marines in 'nam as 'men of valour' 'fighting for freedom' and 'elite warriors'. Theres no honour or 'l33tness' about pushing a button and dropping napalm on an entire village of peasants.
America should be ashamed of the war crimes it was guilty of in vietnam, not treating it like some kinda super heroic episode.
Normandy landings is a different ballagme entirely, those guys WERE heros. but nam?
*sigh*

yeah i wondered the same thing. Maybe they are legally bound to give you your money back in exchange for the game now? After all, you bought a game with the old EULA. I reckon legally speaking these suietd creeps dont have a leg to stand on.
