News Comments > On Impulse & User Content

Mittens, its awesome that you want impulse to be super open, but how do we get games on there? Is there an approval process? I've been wanting to get my game Democracy 2 or maybe Kudos:Rock legend on sale through stardock for a while, I already have them with sites like gamersgate.
I like the way stardock make and sell games, so I'm keen to get my games selling alongside great games like GalCiv 2.

I have securom on my machine from bioshock, it works fine, never given me any problems whatsoever. like 99.9% of people with it on their machines.
Pity the 0.1% rant and rave like the world is ending in predictable fashion. It isn't.

News Comments > In-Game Ad Survey
6. Re: No subject Jun 17, 2008, 10:28  cliffski

this is true. doesn't work so well with world of warcraft though.
Sadly, some executives in games companies now base design decisions on whether the game concept allows contemporary ad placements

News Comments > In-Game Ad Survey
1. ENOUGH of this bullshit Jun 17, 2008, 09:32  cliffski

have you EVER heard of anyone answering yes "I like in game ads!!!"
and yet regular as clockwork, once every few months, some bullshit ad agency releases another bullshit study claiming that black is white and war is peace.
If they REALLY believe this crap, how about they get an independent polling group that doesn't have any vested interest in the results to actually carry out an unbiased survey?
I fucking hate in-game ads.

1. fuck em Jun 10, 2008, 11:58  cliffski

Its like stardock, and matrixgames, and people like me (Positech Games) don't exist.
I know the 'big boys' would like to pretend there are no smaller PC game devs but there are, and we will hopefully still be here for a while.
And there is nothing wrong with making PC games that don't aim at supporting integrated shit video cards.

News Comments > Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare PC DLC Coming
36. Re: No subject Jun 1, 2008, 05:56  cliffski

content is way harder to produce than it used to be. Adding a new free map to Doom was no great piece of effort. Textures were basic at best, no mip maps, no lightmaps, no shadows, no complex scripting, 16 bit or 256 colors, supporting only 1 game mode (deathmatch).
Those days are long gone.
now a new map will involve tons of very high poly models, hundreds of very high quality large sized mip mapped and maybe bump mapped textures with shadows, scripting, and all sorts of stuff. In short, it's LOTS more work than it used to be.
if you are prepared to spend hours of your life playing the new maps, but not prepared to pay a single dollar for them, then your time must be pretty worthless. I'd have happily paid $20 for new maps, I don't see how this differs from people playing an MMO who pay EVERY MONTH for less content.

true, but it's also the case that when you play the full version of a game that cost you nothing, you mentally devalue it anyway. Many games take a few hours to really get going and to see what they are truly like, but if you just torrent them, you never give them a chance.
Its no coincidence that the people who constantly claim "all games are CRAP" are people who never pay for them. Subconsciously we think cheap stuff is crap, and free stuff even crapper, regardless of the truth.

hardly... its one of the most profitable games of the year, and most highly rated. Its possibly the best FPS ever made.
But meh, you might prefer the bunnyhopping tedium of Quake or the repetitive bullshit of counterstrike.

agreed, COD 3 was way earlier. I REALLY hope they do a PC version and that IW does it again. But when the hell are they going to make the new extra maps available for PC players? I'm more than happy to pay for them...

errr... you really think 'the communists' were a threat to the western way of life?
After WW2 when the Russians had 20 million dead and had been through one of the most bitter and bloody wars in their history?
The cold war was more about an economics arms race to bankrupt Russia by forcing it to build more weapons, than a serious need to protect against a Russian invasion.

the thieving cunts like you will still try and pirate it because you feel born with a right to take other peoples stuff for free. 99% of the people whining about "OMGZZZZ I will NEVER BUY IT!!!!111" Will buy it on the first day anyway.

Thats why people sue DRM. It works, they have the sales stats, they know. All the whining on forums will not change EA's bottom line.
