"So, I've been playing for about one hour and... well... Is that it? Is that really the best they could come up with? It's not a bad game. It's a very polished and professionnal product and it's what I was expecting, but..."

I agree.

I have:
Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB 3200 ram
Hercules 9800 Pro 128 MB

I am running the game at 800x600, high detail settings and the game seems to hovering around the 35 FPS point (I'm eyeballing it here). The framerate at these setting reminds me of the framerate I was getting while playing Riddick on Xbox (if that means anything to you). The graphics are very close to what you see in Riddick but at a higher resolution. I must say that the game looks very good. I was running it at 1024x768 and medium detail. The frame rate was noticibly slower and the textures looked a bit blocky.

WARNING, very minor (not story related) spoilers ahead...

As far as gameplay goes, it really reminds me of Quake 2: run through the level, get some ammo, shoot bad guys over and over, repeat. There is some cool stuff like the in game computer interfaces and the physics is great. The story is not very interesting. I got bored with the npc email/voicemail that drives the story pretty quick. There are a few times the game makes you jump, but its not because the game is spooky, they pretty much resort to having monsters jump out at you unexpectedly.

I havent played multi yet, will wait until I finish single play to do so. I am looking forward to multi mainly because I prefer small 4-6 player deathmatches.

I always cringe when G4 interviews celebrity "gamers" and they have no idea what they are talking about. Most of the time it seems like they were told what game to plug (where they get the title wrong).

Speaking of G4/Tech TV, I think Icons is the only show from G4 that is worth watching. X-play spanks any of G4 game review shows and the rest of G4 just seems like a long ass commercial.

I never got my check either. I just chalked it up as another rebate I never got and probably will never get. God, I hate rebates...

IMO = JO > BF

Shouldn't that be:

MO = JO > BF
or
IMO: JO > BF
or just
JO > BF
?

Look at the fan art and tell me this isn't a joke site. Because if it isn't the guy/gal who runs it is the biggest idiot on the face of the planet.

"Eww, I can smell the Jesus on him!"

That is priceless. I'm going to steal that one =)

Why are these guys so scared of using DVD disks for games? I mean, show me someone that doesn't have a DVD drive on thier computer and I'll show you someone who's computer can't run modern videogames.

Plus, DVD drives cost less than your average videogame.

Seems to me that someone, retailers/activision/id, is getting a bit greedy with the $55 price tag. I thought it was a great thing when new "mainstream" games prices started coming down a bit from the $50 level to $35-40 level. Reminds me of when Quake 2 came out and Software Etc in my town was selling it for $60.

I know, I know... If I don't like it I don't have to buy it and at that price point, I probly won't. I just saying, $55 is a hefty chunk to be plopping down on a game, even doom...

Video games making people fat is pure nonsense. I have found that I am less likely to eat when I am playing games; both my hands are full and I am thinking about things other than food. I actually miss meals, as does my son, when we are playing.

Obesity is caused by lack of excersise and a bad diet. Perhaps there are more fat kids in the world and more videogamers in the world, thus more fat videogamers.

The PS2 was $299 at launch here in the US. At $500, I doubt that I would buy a PS3 at launch and I am a classic early adopter gamer. I would imagine that most early adopting gamers feel the same way and Sony will have a hard time selling the PS3 for > $300.

This guy in the article says that tivo and DVD writing will be included in PS3 and thats what will drive up the price. I highly doubt that these functions will be part of the PS3. Most of us don't want or need that stuff in a console. I already have a DVD writer and don't watch much tv.

Built in wireless and broadband are a must but the tech that makes these possible is so cheap that I doubt it would raise Sony's manufacturing costs more than a couple of bucks per unit.
