According to my list, there's about 25 servers up, and all but 3 of them have players in them. Most in the 10-32 players range.

Definitely no CS, but the nice thing about The Ship is that as long as there's at least one good server up with a few people in it, then you're pretty much set.

I don't know, adding nothing new to a gere has certainly made Blizzard a boat load of money.

zing.

For a second there I thought they had released a demo for The Ship. I'd love to try it, but I'm not ready to put my money on a blind buy.

They're actually having a freeplay weekend coming up pretty soon.

This game's a blast to play. Definitely a refreshing change from most FPS's. The player count had dropped a little due to the lack of any new content (or an sdk), but the new updates look excellent. I'm still downloading the update, but I'm hearing that the new maps are fantastic. And I'm curious to see if this new "shank" weapon can be used in the prisons or not.

Make sure you select "Join multiplayer server" and not "join Lan game" or "Create lan game". Also make sure your firewall is off. The list came up fine for me.

Yeah, definitely used join multiplayer as well as create multiplayer. I'm going to try disabling some of the port forwarding setups I have on my router and see what happens.

Nah, I cant see any server either. Bummer...

Same here. I actually hosted a server for a little while and ran around the robbery map, but nobody joined. Either the browser's broken r nobody's playing.

That's another easy fix. How about you learn to AIM?

How do this have anything to do with aim? It LOCKS ON to the target. There is no aiming involved.

The fact is that it's an anti-air turret can't actually kill anything in the air without taking an hour to reload at least once, by which time you'll probably be dead.

Man talk about whining. Next thing you know you'll be complaing about the pistols being too accurate...

I get the feeling that his post wasn't really meant to be taken all that seriously.

and that BF2142 will offer a faster-paced style of play than the earlier Battlefield games.

That statement worries me.

Why the fuck do people think just because something has vapires in it, that it's a horror game? Three factions battling each other sounds like an action game to me. Horror is something entirely different.

This press-release and a weak FAQ is all we have so far. There are no screenshots or concept art to even begin to get a picture of what the game's style is going to be like.

Way too early to bitch at them for that one. But feel free to bitch at them for Horizons like everyone else.

Throw 'Arab', 'Airline', and 'Hijacks' into any news header and you're guaranteed some attention.

Every post-SPR WW2 game that's been released has taken quite a bit of influence from it already. Let's just say that Omaha Beach FPS recreations wouldn't be quite the same without it.

With this in mind, I don't think that making a game based on Saving Private Ryan would bring anything all that new to the table, unless Spielberg's got something up his sleeve that possibly involves a more intricate story (I'm sorry, but BiA's weak attempt at a storyline fell flat on its face, so I'm still waiting for a real "plot-based" WW2 shooter).

Although I don't think I ever finished it, I remember thinking very highly of The Dig. I really have no clue on how much involvement Spielberg really had in that project, but I'm going to be optimistic and hope that perhaps he understands the modern gaming world, and maybe even brings back the adventure genre in the process by fusing it with other genres.

But I don't see any of these going anywhere other than FPS if they hope to really capture a cinematic atmosphere.

I went through a ridiculous amount of trouble trying to get the Gothic 2 expansion to translate to english correctly, without too much luck. I'm a little dissapointed that the only way they're bringing it to american audiences is in a "gold" bundle package. I already bought the damn game, I'm not all giddy about buying it twice.

I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head, though. As much of an amazingly huge fan of Gothic 2 as I was, I'm still going to go with Morrowind: Oblivion when November comes 'round. Let's just hope Oblivion doesn't suck.

At least I'll have something to fall back on if it does. That is, if the world doesn't collapse in on itself from the mass collective dissapointment that will occur if it does indeed end up becoming a steaming pile. The fate of the world is in Bethesda's hands.

Someone on the battle.net forums noted an interesting fact.

Starcraft was released on April 1st of 1998 (or possibly 1997? April 1st, either awy), and the .999_=1 equation was an April Fool's joke that Blizzard made a few years later.

Put the two together and perhaps it means that there's a Starcraft 2 announcement coming? O_o

And if there's a Starcraft 2 announcement, then the other accompanying announcements could be just as major (D3, WoW:X)? o_O

God I love hype.

It's my optimistic ohpe that the public simply won't take to a format that's obnoxiously protected. The general public will buy this new format and get ridiculously annoyed at the restrictions that are plastered all over a product they just paid for, and they'll spread the word to their friends that they might as well just not even move to the new format, because it's not worth the hassle.

And they'll tell their friends, who'll tell their children, who will tell their playmates, who will grow up and rebel against unnecessary content protection by coming together and creating one format that will take over the entire film, music, and software industry, and which will of course have no protections whatsoever. In fact, they'll just make it free. Because by that point money will be meaningless and the world will be a united society of peace and cooperation where corrupt politicians and religious wars will be a thing of the past.

You know.. like Star Trek.

I see a distinct possibility for this.

Well.. maybe just the first part.

Here's to hoping this is testing ground for GTA 4 on the PS3.

I'm not totally sure on how or if they're going to use the numbering anymore, seeing that VC and SA had no title enumeration to speak of, but I would think the PS3 GTA would be GTA 6?

I could be wrong.

God I hate the DS2 community. Now that I've patched, I rarely ever actually see any games on the browser list anymore. Why?

Because you wouldn't know there was even a patch unless you're one of the 5% of the world's gamers who actually read news updates or bother going online to download anything extra that's not provided in an easy-bake autopatch system. And let's face it, that 5% is too busy posting comments about it on blues news to actually host any games.

And lucky me, DS2 didn't see fit to include any kind of in-game notification that informs people of updates, and they definitely didn't think to make the patches compatible with each other.

So I'm screwed out of a game (I didn't buy this game for singleplayer) for at least 2 months until people start figuring out that some of these bugs they're so annoyed with can actually be fixed by spending 60 seconds in a browser.

GTA is an OK game design but i don't know why people wet their pants over how breakthru it is - it's no more open-ended or free ranging or innovative than 6 Dozen OTHER games i've owned over the last 2 decades.

If you didn't get it from playing the game itself, I'm not sure how I can explain otherwise to you.

But I'll just say that I bought GTA3 on a whim, when it first came out, and I was amazed by it. No hype involved. It was just extremely entertaining. There's a lot of features that I could point out, but apparently you think that Ultima Underworld has already pulled them off (I'm not going to even begin to try and explain why that's horribly, horribly wrong).

GTA's basic concepts aren't all unique, but they are extremely well executed. A lot of effort has been put into the details, and it shows. It's only been getting better since GTA3. They've got a great formula going for them.

My guess would be that maybe you're a late-comer to the GTA series, and that you've been overhyped to death by your friends and the media. Who knows.

That's all I got to say 'bout that.
