Wow. You came up with one semi-negative review out of 35 positive reviews. I'd say Doom 3 is still winning by a VERY LARGE MARGIN.

And another thing. Those games you mentioned that are supposed to be superior to Doom 3 in some way, HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED YET. (As you said yourself.)

You know nothing about those games except for previews and hype. So to compare them to a game like Doom 3 that has been released, tested, played, and reviewed is utterly ridiculous.

As far as not coming up with something, I have checked this page about once every two hours. Because I don't live on this message board unlike some people. And I'm not sure why I take the time to respond to you.

As far as my list is concerned:

1. Per-polygon hit detection
2. Advanced physics engine
3. Good Soundtrack that does not spoil the mood of the game.
4. Dark, creepy atmosphere
5. well designed levels with a lot of interesting machines and neat looking technology
6. Simplicity and elegance of Design
7. Really good Art/Design work in general.
8. Doom 3 feels more creative than just another WW2 shooter. And it goes way beyond the original Doom, so it is more than just a remake.

I realise that you will do your best to pick apart these thngs, but let me state in advance that I don't care.

Also, PC Gamer is one of the best selling and most widely read gaming magazines around, and yet you think their reviews and opinions are inferior to your own. Another example of how ridiculous your statements are.

And maybe if you are really feeling into this pointless argument, you can refute every single one of the reviews I mentioned in my earlier post.

I have never said Doom 3 was perfect. There have been better games made. There will be better games made in the future, possibly one of the games you mentioned. I respect your opinion for not liking the game.

But I don't understand this mindless negativity you spew everywhere about it. Especially when the vast majority of people who have reviewed it like it. You state your negative opinions as though they were fact, and they are not.

The vast majority of people who play Doom 3 love it. Every single review I've seen for Doom 3 has been very favorable. You are just one person who expresses mindless hatred for a game, and you can't back up anything you say.

Show me a SINGLE review on a major website or magazine that gives Doom 3 less than 60% or 6/10. You can't. Because what you say about Doom 3 has no basis in fact.

Oh and by the way, I don't exactly spend a lot of time reading your meaningless posts, as you have invalidated yourself already.

Doom 3 is an amazing game.

The engine deserves my respect, and it gets it. The game deserves none and gets none. I give Id credit for making a gorgeous game engine and nothing more. Bring on the real FPS games of '04: HL2, SW Battlefront, MOH Pacific Assault, et. alia.

This is amazing. There are major magazines like PC Gamer giving Doom 3 a 94% rating, and yet you say it deserves no respect as if your opinion matters at all.

And 94% is higher than two of the games you mentioned. Half-Life 2 has not been released yet so do not be so pretentious as to mention that.

I can prove my claim that Doom 3 deserves respect with a list of reviews. Here is a partial list of Doom 3 reviews, all of which hold the game itself, including the engine in high favor.

PC Gamer 94 %
Gamespy - 4.5/5
FileFront - 5/5
3DAvenue (92%)
Primotech (92%)
Gameguru Mania (91%)
GameMethod (89%)
HomeLAN Fed (88%)
modDB (85%)
PixelRage (82%)
The Wasteland (4/10)
Game Over Magazine - 89%
Speeed's Review - 9.3/10
Forbes - 4/5
CounterFrag - 95%
Inside Gamer Online - 9/10
Warcry News Network - 10/10
eToyChest - 95%
PGNx - 9.4/10
OzForces Gaming Nation - 9.3/10
Mansteaks Quarterly Gaming Groove (95%)
Full Spectrum Gaming - 9/10
2404.org - 9.8/10
ModDB - 8.5/10
Primotechnology - 92%
RedAddedBaboon.com
Eurogamer - 9/10
Gamehelper - 9.3/10
ToTheGame - 9/10

I believe the above reviews speak for Doom 3 better than I ever could. Doom 3 is an amazing game.

Besides, what have you done for us lately Id?

Doom 3.
Exactly. Not much.

To put it simply, you're a fucking idiot. Doom 3 is a damn fine game. It is not perfect, but it deserves respect. And to not give Id any credit AT ALL for it just shows your own ignorance regarding first person shooters in general.

Just a note about System Shock 1 and 2.

Those games were not really considered "first person shooters." They were more like 1st person RPGs akin to Ultima Underworld. They went a bit beyond what is expected for a standard FPS game like Doom or Quake. I have the box to System Shock 2, and the back says:

"Unique combination of Sci-Fi Horror Role-Playing and 1st person gameplay"

"The most anticipated sci-fi horror role playing game ever"

System Shock was a serious RPG with an inventory and stuff, so I don't think it is fair to compare it to a game like Doom 3 that only aspires to be a first person shooter.

I loved all the Looking Glass games, but I never finished SS2 because of the aforementioned "endless monster" problem it had.

This thread blows my mind. I think Doom 3 is fantastic, and I am quite pleased with it. And the engine is amazing. I have recently played through Far Cry, Painkiller, and Thief 3, and I was still IMPRESSED by this engine.

As far as enemies spawning behind you and whatnot, the original Doom had all kinds of spawn traps. I believe that the Doom 3 engine can render larger levels, but it is limited by the current level of hardware.

The current Unreal engine can make larger levels, but it's lighting and physics engine is a joke compared to Doom 3. The only place the current Unreal engine has high poly counts is in the static meshes that are stuck all over the maps. And those aren't even lit in the same manner as the BSP.

And it really didn't matter what kind of game Id made. If Doom 3 had been 5 times as good as it is, there would still be plenty of people dissecting every aspect of it.

Doom 3 has small levels, and they are supposed to be small. Dark and claustrophobic was the whole point. And I think you will see the Doom 3 engine used for plenty of games.

The weapons are standard Id weapons, and are every bit as strong and functional as all of the other Id weapons have been since Quake 1. They have new models now, but they kick the same amount of ass they usually do.

Doom 3 Rocks. It is by far the best single player game Id has ever made, and I would place it in the top 5 best FPS games ever made. I honestly don't see how anyone could play through it and not enjoy it.

And why do people expect a game based on MARS in the year 2145, and centered around fighting DEMONS from HELL to have a super realistic storyline ?????

I think people are just a little bit too critical......

I finally got my Doom3 by UPS last night.

I really like the interface. And the heavy metal track that plays is not bad. I am in the "Enpro" section or whatever.

I think the game rocks so far, but I wish it wasn't quite so DARK. Jesus. It actually is scary, I have jumped back in my seat several times.

I thought the "Super Turbo Turkey Puncher" machine was hilarious! Did anyone see that? If you go in there before the first mission you can play it.

I have passed like 5 lockers without finding the damned security codes, which is irritating, but it just means I'll have to start over and look around better. The detail on everything is just amazing. And I like how you can use the computers "in engine" without jumping to another screen.

And I keep getting plasma cells everywhere, but I didn't see the plasma gun. Where was it? Overall I think it rocks.

Best Buy is no better an option DDI. They all suck.

I pre-ordered my Doom 3 with bonus from Best Buy on 7-14 and according to the website my order won't ship until 8-5.
Even though the website says it will be available 8-4. With my 2 day shipping I probably won't get it until Monday.

I think you are better off if you just go down to your local Best Buy and grab a copy yourself.

I pre-ordered Doom3 from Best Buy about three weeks ago, and I paid for all of it. It will be sent to me by two day air, so I'm expecting it about thursday. Maybe. But I still haven't gotten the "we shipped it" e-mail from Bust Buy.

You can buy Windows through some universities for 5 dollars.

I got Win2000 Professional, WinXP Professional, and Office XP for 5 dollars each at UAB. (University of Alabama at Birmingham) And you only have to sign up for one class to get it. A lot of people on campus don't even know about this deal, but if you go over to the bookstore they will hook you up.

The "corporate" or "enterprise" versions of WinXP do not have the hardware change reporting crap or whatever it is called.

And if you have problems recording or ripping CD's just use Nero or any of the other zillions of programs available for this type of thing.

And I can run some very old games on WinXP. I can run Wolfenstein 3D, the Doom trilogy, and the Quake trilogy on WinXP. Usually you can hit "windows compatibility mode" and stuff works. And for some notoriously hard to run games like Ultima VII you can get programs like Exult that will allow you to run it under Win2000/XP.

And if you really hate Microsoft it is possible to edit the startup screens and logos to create your own "version" of WinXP or Win2000. You just have to disable Windows file protection and edit some .dlls and what not. There are websites that explain how to edit the crap out of Windows.

My point is that there are usually ways to correct or circumvent many of the problems/complaints people have about Windows 2000/XP.

Windows 98?? You mean there are still people using that shit?

The only OS I can think of that is WORSE than Win98 was Windows ME. While it is true that Windows 2000/XP use more system resources and the like, it is worth it.

I have to agree with Dagok that Windows 2000/xp is FAR MORE STABLE than any previous MS OS.

I can leave my WinXP system running for months without rebooting. I can install all kinds of games and applications, change hardware, change drivers, and do almost anything I want and WinXP keeps running fine about 99% of the time.

I still remember how Win98 would blue screen and crash just about every time you changed anything. It sucked.

And if your computer is too slow to handle Windows XP then you sure as hell aren't going be able to play Doom 3 very well. Windows 2000 was nice, and XP is better.

Drag your anachronistic ass out of the 20th century and get Windows XP.
