I clicked on this thread expecting to see a discussion of the Doom 3 Settings.

But I get discussions about socialism and capitalism, the former Soviet Union, the american education system, and video card lists among other things. Never a dull moment on this website.

But anyway, here is my irrelevant stab into the darkness.

Video cards:

Whatever graphics component would lie inside a Texas Instruments TI-99A home computer

ATI Mach32 1 meg VGA graphics card ( on a 486 DX2 66Mhz)

Nvidia Riva 128 8 Meg
Nvidia Riva TNT 16 Meg
Nvidia Geforce 3 64 Meg
Nvidia Geforce 4 TI 4600 128 Meg

And I'm currently comtemplating a Geforce FX 5800 256 meg card (105 dollars on Pricewatch.)

161. Ultima Underworld 3 and System Shock 3 Jul 23, 2004, 18:55 Celestial Toad

Yeah System Shock and System Shock 2 both scared the utter Beejesus out of me. I remember that quite clearly.

I think both Ultima Underworld 3 and System Shock 3 could both be done very well using the Doom 3 engine.

Not that it will ever happen

Godsmack would be kinda cool for the D3 music. But they aren't CREEPY enough.

I still like the Quake 1 NIN soundtrack. It is creepy and disturbing, just like Doom 3 should be.

159. How to Pimp out Doom 3 Jul 22, 2004, 20:24 Celestial Toad

"A P4 1.5 with a gef3 only gives around 1000 on 3dmark03
you can treble that on a p3 600 with a gef5900."

35. Minimum Specs Jul 20, 2004, 12:27 Celestial Toad

Damn those minimum specs are lower than I expected. Carmack is known for making very efficient and fast engines though. I think people will be surprised at how well the game plays on mid-range systems.

I bet the recommended specs are like:

2.4 Ghz P4
512 Megs RAM
Geforce FX 5900 128 megs or better

I remember I used to play Quake 2 on an Nvidia Riva 128 with 8 megs RAM. LOL. (With a certain driver) It just BARELY stumbled along, but I still had some fun.

And then I played Quake 3 Arena on a Riva TNT 16 Meg card for a couple of years.....

98. Injection of nonsense Jul 19, 2004, 11:30 Celestial Toad

Fallout 3 from Bethesda sounds cool. As long as it is still third person. I don't think it would work in first person.

I honestly don't care about the "fuel" issue in Fallout. It's a GAME for God's sake.

But I would rather see The Elder Scrolls 4 : Whatever than Fallout 3 right now.

Maybe Blizzard will hand Bethesda the rights to Diablo 3, and it will actually get done. lol.

And maybe EA will give Bethesda the rights to Ultima, Richard Garriot will join in, and then they can do Ultima Underworld 3 using the Doom 3 engine, and also do Ultima 10 single player. This is right after Gabe Newell starts serving Ice Cream in Hell and DNF is released.

122. Doom 3 in da house. Jul 17, 2004, 15:53 Celestial Toad

I remember PC Gamer gave Far Cry 95% and then Computer Gaming World gave it like 70%. I wonder how the other magazines will review Doom 3 now that PC Gamer has stepped out first with the 94% rating.

I wouldn't be shocked if CGW gives it around 80%. I'm getting to where I don't trust PC Gamer reviews as much as I used to. They gave the PC version of "Enclave" about 86% and I thought it kind of sucked when I actually played a few levels of it.

Alright, Doom 3 is almost here. Now I expect Quake 4 will start to get some major hype going over the next year. And
maybe the Duke Nukem Forever development will switch to the Doom 3 engine now so that they can release it on schedule with Arthur C Clarke's 2010 : The Year we made Contact.

Dear Ghandi,

I did read the second part of that sentence. You apparently didn't read my post very well. There is some humor and sarcasm there. It wasn't really a serious "flame." It was mostly a joke aimed at the way you left the end of your post defended against "ID Fanbois." And I even used the same spelling of "fanboi." Hence the final sentence "unofficial ID Software internet defense team." Or maybe I need to be more blatantly obvious in the future. Hmmmm.

And Toads aren't blind dammit.

"Figured RTCW had a single player component to it so gave it a try, was disappointed. "

I really liked the RTCW single player component. It was varied, had nice level design, and was lots of fun. It was certainly a hell of a lot better than some other "Kill the Nazi" shooters like "Mortyr."

"Because so far ID has not delivered on the gameplay department"

OK.

Being an ID fanboi, I am now required to flame you some for that statement. Sorry.

Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1 and 2, Quake 1 and 2 all had ass kicking and extremely FUN gameplay. ID has produced some of the most durable and simply fun action games ever made. They didn't have lots of complicated cutscenes and mission objectives and other useless bullshit. They just had you running around blasting shit down in a new killer 3D engine. And thats all I want. And Quake 3 is still being played on the internet quite a bit, and it's five years old now. It's not single player, but it most certainly has something in the gameplay department.

YOU DUMBSHIT MORON GANDHI, OMFGWTF,, WOLF 3D, DOOM, QUAKE, QUAKE2, QUAKE3, ALL HAD SOLID GAMEPLAY. TEH ID ROX ALL OTHER GAMES MAKERS SUX SHIT OMFGWTF GET A CLUE GO AWAY.

*cough*

This post brought to you by the unofficial ID Software internet defense team. We deserve respect dammit.

"Meanwhile, crap like Enter the Matrix, UT2003, Hitman Contracts, sell a ton. "

UT2003 was not "crap." It was a solid game and was the first to use the new version of the Unreal engine. It was also somewhat innovative with the adrenaline moves and a "sports" like approach to Deathmatch, CTF and the other modes. And UT2003 was improved upon and supported very well with all the official bonus packs, patches, and community made maps. It may not have been quite as good as the original UT, but it was a good game.

And I think Doom 3 will rock also.
