Words mean nothing when it comes to topics of DLC. We have been shafted and ripped off to many times to trust ANYONE'S words on the subject.

Just shut up and release the DLC. Prove us wrong.

Thinking of the promises made by Mr. Howard last Summer about the PC version of Skyrim having its own interface, I can understand this sentiment. However, if they released a DLC now, it would be comparable to "horse armor" in depth and scope. I'm fine waiting for more substantial content, even if it takes them a while. They probably want to patch the game up a bit more first anyways.

Too bad they don't share this information with people on their own forums...

"Because that gap is going to be bigger, we want to put litle things out for free in between. We've already done that for PC with the high-res pack. We're trying to figure out what those things are."

This is promising. I just hope they work out a system with Steam that allows people to revoke free DLC from their account so they're not forced to download several gigabytes of data they don't use or want.

"We knew before release that we were going to support it in a larger way, with lots of updates every month," Howard said.

What? When is that going to start?

not many seem to know this but if you want the absolute crispest textures when using high res textures:

in your driver -- you should turn anisotropic completely off (no texture filtering) and also choose highest quality textures.

nvidia mentions this in their skyrim config FAQ.

makes a big difference for anything within 3-ish feet of your skyrim character.

You seem to have that backwards. You turn off AF in the Skyrim Launcher and enable it in the Nvidia driver control panel.

Actually you bring up a good point. This was it's sale week (Tu-Thur, $39.99) and it didn't retain #1? I'm surprised!

It's held it for nearly 4 months that's not bad.

Today is Feb. 12. Three months and one day equals "nearly four months?"

Huh. I wonder if he'll feel that way after we see all the DLC-support that this game will receive over the next year. Skyrim is not only a huge success for Bethesda, but a huge investment. They're not done yet.

As I am a SP gamer Diablo 3 is entirely off my list, heck boycotting this game would be a joke, I never intend to buy it.

Amen, I don't support SP (that's SINGLE PLAYER) that require online connections (i.e. Assassins Creed, D3, etc) or games with Adverts. Just out of principal, I don't want that drivel in a HOBBY.

Same here. In fact, this is what killed my interest in Starcraft2. I really liked the Starcraft story and execution, but they ruined it this go 'round. And even if they didn't tether single player to an online connection, I find it difficult to get into fantasy RPGs that flash 4-digit damage values on the screen. How many hit points do you need, anyways?

The spears were cool looking.

I never realized bow/magic didn't have slow-mo kill shots. That's an odd omission.

The game would quickly seem far too similar to Fallout3/FNV if it had too many killcam opportunities, particularly with ranged weapons/spells. I hope that if it is ever added that it is made optional.

This news article is a little off.. these features were never proposed to be put into the game. After Skyrim was finished, the company told all the the programmers to spend a week creating any feature they'd like to see in the game. It was a creative jam session.. and whether any of this makes it into the game is up them. But these are not "cut features" in the sense that they were being considered and didn't make it into the game.

Edit-Sorry if the video already explains this, I'm at work and don't have time to view this version of it. There's a full keynotes version of this video that goes into the development methods at Bethesda and the whole talk is awesome.

Whether the video explains this or not, this is a valid point. All this work was done in December, well after the game shipped. A lot of people on the bethsoft forums don't seem to understand this and complain about stuff being "cut," so the misleading nature of this news post isn't helping.

Most of it looks really promising and I'm looking forward to what they do with the DLC, though I can do without the adoption add-on.

Not all the textures were "uncompressed." Some were left out, some were broken. To see a detailed list of what got upgraded and what got broken by Bethesda's packaging errors, take a look at this thread.

Short version: texture artists are not out of a job, but they have a new baseline to work from.

I think there will be quite a few people who end up owning two copies of Skyrim. One for their (shit) console and one for the PC.

P.S. The textures look great. Not earth shattering, but everything I've seen makes it look like they just used uncompressed versions of the original textures. Right way to go.

Speaking of Skyrim, didn't 1.4 come out? Steam hasn't updated since the 3rd beta patch. It says version 1.4.21.04 at present, is this the latest?

The third beta build was released as the final 1.4 update. No changes were made, so if you had the third beta build, there's nothing new to download.

My guess is that they will give a free small DLC since its been selling so well.

It can't be DLC since the first DLC has to be XBox360 exclusive for 30 days. It has to be something that only PC users can make use of.

PS- the random crashing that I was having appears to have been due to an SKSE bug for the release made on the day that 1.4 went legit. The SKSE released today fixed the problem.

Version 1.04.10 of SKSE was released a few days ago, actually. Unfortunately, the code that was causing the crashes was copied into some other SKSE plugins, like Categorized Favorites Menu. Until those plugins were updated with the corrected code, stability would still be a problem.

Having participated in the beta, I knew the update contents were substantial. However, crashing to the desktop within 90 seconds of leaving Helgen wasn't a promising start.

They never did. If someone sees you harming a "valuable animal," then you're in trouble. Just don't get caught.

Chickens, horses and domesticated dogs will report minor crimes, such as theft. Don't believe me? Go to Riverwood and steal something in front of Stump the dog. You will be rewarded for your efforts with a brand new Whiterun bounty of 5 gold. This is the same issue that Todd Howard joked about finding (and fixing) prior to the game's release back in October. Happy gaming!

2560x1600, Ultra, FXAA, 16xAS - Dragonsreach view toward the Gildergreen tree

1.3.10.0 = 32.4 FPS (default)
1.3.10.0 = 36.4 FPS (SkyBoost v3)
1.4.15.0 = 59.6 FPS (default)

I guess it helps if you compile the exe with optimizations...
