It's BIOWARE. You know, the people who thought Dragon Age 2 was the right direction to take the franchise in. This game developer is driving off the cliff. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.

The only thing more time consuming than disposing of nuclear waste is Japanese bureaucracy. Still, it's amazing and more than a little encouraging that no health issues have popped up.

They also have the option to bitch loudly about it on the Internet to influence others not to buy it and to put pressure on the devs. What do you have against freedom of speech?

Don't see anything there about being against freedom of speech and what you're saying and what I'm doing are essentially the same thing.

I don't want a multiplayer MechWarrior game for the same reason I've never played WoW. As nice as this looks, without a single player campaign or at least a skirmish mode, this holds no interest for me. This game was originally going to be a single-player reboot of the franchise. Although I'm sure many welcome the opportunity to thrash each other in battlemechs, I remain underwhelmed and disappointed.

Edit: and why do we need to look at the guy being interviewed for more than 2/3 of the "trailer." Surely they could have come up with more in-game video and just played his voice over it after the intro. As it was, I got tired of watching it.

I've not yet purchased The Witcher 2 (waiting for the edition being released next month). I'll be buying it now, and whatever game they release next. Finally someone gets it. I can tell that EA and Ubisoft weren't part of this conversation. Too much common sense here.

After DA2, I can't say I'm at all surprised at the response to ME3. I am continuously surprised, however, at the number of people who seem content to support Bioware and throw their money at EA. I'll chalk it up to lemming behavior.

I'm gonna buy this game, mainly because it's the one franchise Bioware hasn't ruined yet.

I'm not sure if you care that Bioware has ruined its other franchises, but if you did, perhaps giving them your money for ME3 isn't the best way to express your opinion. Then again if ME3 is the only franchise you care about, then here's to hoping they didn't ruin it for you.

I, on the other hand, won't support developers of abandoned, buggy games - or games of such low quality as DA2.

Now they just need to... They also need to redesign...

I think they need to start over. There used to be a thread on the Bioware forums asking what people would like to see in DA3. Personally, I can't think of anything better than another developer's name on the box.

This has to be the most hyped game ever. I'll also wait and see because I don't want another "developed on a console" PC title that tells me not to turn off my computer while saving a game and mouse acceleration that makes me want to throw up.

I wonder if this isn't just a repackaged, commercial version like BGT-Weidu that combines BG1, TotSC, BG2 and ToB. We can already play that in widescreen, high resolution if we so desire. If this is something else, like a graphics overhaul, I'll be excited enough. I just hope it isn't a port to iOS or Android.

Preorders are where Bioware/EA make their money now. This is because once the game is out, everyone sees how bad it is, with or without the "awesome button." I'm dismayed that people still haven't realized this after Dragon Age 2.

Every time the oscars come around, I think of this episode from the West Wing:

Shibboleth (series 2)

President Bartlet: Didn't I do it right?
C.J.: You did it great, but I need you to come out here and pardon another one.
President Bartlet: Aren't I going to get a reputation for being soft on turkeys?
C.J.: Sir, can you come out here and just get this over with?
President Bartlet: No, I'm not gonna just get this... What the hell's going on?
C.J.: They sent me two turkeys. The more photo-friendly of the two gets a Presidential pardon and a full life at a children's zoo. The runner-up gets eaten.
President Bartlet: If the Oscars were like that, I'd watch.

This amount of hubris is hardly surprising from the developer that effectively split Starcraft II into three different games. Won't be buying this, no matter when it's released.

his lack of experience shows in his decision not to ask Gabe any interesting questions--or to hold his feet to the fire, etc. I'm sure that certain topics were off the table as a pre-condition of the interview--although I really don't *know* that to be the case since I wasn't a fly on the wall anywhere near Ben...;)

I'm guessing that you're referring to the Half-Life franchise here. This situation seems pretty clear to someone who has followed it: the core writer for the HL2 storyline became seriously ill and had to leave Valve on an indefinite leave of absence. His importance was made clear by Newell's assurance that he would always be a valuable asset to Valve, no matter how long his recovery would take. Newell and his PR masters don't want to admit that the HL story hinges on one person and that they've written themselves into a corner with Episodes 1 and 2 and they have a history of missing any milestones related to the HL franchise. Talking about HL is a no-win situation for them.

Or is there something else we can hold Gabe Newell's "feet to the fire" for?

This "software as a service" debate is old. The developer/publisher owns the software - what you get is a license. This is the case whether it is Skyrim or Windows. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Still...."wearable computers?" I hope this means he's wearing an armband for his smartphone...

*sigh*

I had forgotten the original box art. It actually still pisses me off!

This is in feudal Japan and the warlord is Japanese...but the princess and the hero are both blondes. Wall2
Jordan said it in Wired's interview:

“Honestly, I would do it with an Asian cast ... The reason the characters had white hair in the Apple II original is because it was the only color that would stand out against the black background. It didn’t really make sense to have blondes in 16th-century Japan...”

It was a design problem so I guess the cover artist did based on that computers' limitations.

That's a convenient answer, but the problem is that the facial features of the hero and princess aren't oriental either. If they had even slightly Japanese looking features with the blonde hair I could forgive it...plenty of Japanese men and women dye their hair...you still won't mistake them for caucasians when you see them. The warlord on the box art had oriental features

The term 'oriental' in describing facial features of a presumably Japanese person might have been acceptable (barely) in the mid-1980s, but today it would be deemed quite inappropriate. The term 'Asian' will suffice if you must generalize.
