If you experience strange or flickering/shimmering shadows with this patch, make sure you update your GPU drivers - that was a probable fix reported during the beta. I'm sure there will soon be a mod to disable the killcams, or you could just type:

set killmoverandom to 0

in the console. Sorry, console-people, you're stuck waiting for an official solution.

Really, for all the "awesome button" talk, the combat system itself wasn't that different in DA2. However, having enemies spawn in multiple waves from various spots in the room you were fighting in screwed up a lot of positioning and crowd control and other tactical stuff.

What? I took one look at the demo and saw how Hawke was running warping around the battlefield from enemy to enemy, swinging his gigantic sword so fast that it must have been made from styrofoam. How is this better than the paced combat of DA:O unless you're using a console fighting game as a baseline?

Reading Laidlaw's posts in that thread makes it abundantly clear that he's the obstacle to any kind of progressive process that could ever redeem the Dragon Age franchise. He's still the lead designer. He's telling people what's been decided in a thread meant to gather feedback. He says "Sorry!" DA3 is doomed.

Every time they bring up the "BioWare vault" I cringe.
I didn't play DA2 after the demo, but they never fixed DA:O and it's been abandoned for quite a while now. They screwed over DA:O fans with DA2 and are now in PR damage control mode over ME3. Why oh why would I trust them to do DA3 right? Their first step would be to fire a lot of people, starting with Laidlaw and his "awesome button."

Whenever I see a thread that asks "What do you want to see in Dragon Age 3?" I always respond with "Another developer's name on the box."

I'll admit that I am not a Mass Effect fan, but I don't understand the intensity of this complaint compared to what they did to Dragon Age with DA2. In that game it wasn't the ending that was offensive, it was the whole freaking game.

I guess it's not Moondog anymore?

At present, is there any evidence this developer (Beamdog) has any experience producing a title the size and scope of a Baldur's Gate game? Let's wait and see how BGEE and BG2EE turn out.

Plagiarism (of a film, no less) is a pretty tacky substitute for writing.

"We cannot achieve victory through strength of arms."
"Not for ourselves, but we can give Frodo a chance..."

How would the ending sucking stop people from pre-purchasing the game? If you are purchasing before the game is released, it's rather silly to expect that you'd already know how it ended.

I dunno...maybe wait until the game is reviewed before buying it rather than blindly trusting the developer to do it right? Did you completely miss the DA2 fiasco?

Wow the thread about the ME3 ending has 40198 replies.

That is a lot of hate.

Didn't stop the lemmings from pre-purchasing the game. Now, however, Bioware is out of franchises, and I don't think Dragon Age 3 is going to see huge presales, assuming it ever gets made. If they don't pull their own asses out of the fire by fixing the ME3 problem or hitting DA3 out of the park, they're dead as a developer. Nobody's going to trust them to start a new franchise if this stuff doesn't get addressed.

I'll be impressed if they manage to ever get this game out.

They will, they just have a pretty small team, some of them aren't even on the project full-time.

The video looks good, can't wait to play it.

Only two of them are full-time developers working on the game. The rest of them are part-time. I'm looking forward to this, but I hope it comes out soon or else it will be too dated to enjoy thoroughly.

A TES MMO would ruin the TES world for me. TES games are a welcomed respite from the sophomoric depravity that embodies MMOs these days. Just looking at any of the nexus pages associated with TES or FO3/FNV reveals what's popular, but I can always choose not to see skimpy clothes, hentai female bodies or ridiculous anime characters in my game. Having these thrust on me in an MMO experience is not something I'll endure.

Are you kidding me? I wish there was an option to turn them off once the main questline is complete. They're just annoying as heck when you're trying to run around and explore.

You may need to consider whether this is the game for you, as dragons do play a rather significant role in the story.

It was a crash-fest for months after release. It's much better now, but before all the DLC and updates, it was rather painful to play. And this is nothing new with Obsidian (NWN anyone?).

This was a failed announcement (countdown to a server crash?), but there is information on Trent Oster's twitter feed. There will be screenshots next week.

Edit: WTF is "Moondog?"

Trent Oster is a frequent visitor of Gibberlings3, so I doubt they'll ignore the utility of WEIDU when considering mods or implementing fixes.

Ask everyone who ordered Skyrim for the PC if they got their release-date delivery. Nope.

I got my copy of Skyrim on 11/11/11 from Amazon Prime. I'm pretty sure that was the release date...

And I don't care about Diablo III. The always-on internet connection requirement is actually not what bothers me most about this or other Blizzard games - it's the ridiculous limit on the viewable area, rendering high resolution displays useless under the auspices of multiplayer balancing. I can understand their reasoning, even if I don't agree with it, for placing this restriction on multiplayer games, but enforcing it in single player makes no sense whatsoever.

Hmm, I wonder how extensive the "improvements" are? Are they just updating the engine? Or are the updating the ruleset as well? I would be a lot less interested if they forced in 4th edition rules.
It will use 2nd edition ruleset, but will allow BG2 functionality (kits, etc.) in BG1, as Tutu and BGT do. It seems they'll also be adding new content, created by the same people that created BG2 so it will hopefully be appropriate and not contrived.

Edit: first screenshots will show up next week.

Did not realize.. but enough? I don't want remakes, I want BG3. Nothing could ever make we want to replay the story of BG1 and BG2 without at least 6 dozen mods. And if its different story and characters then it ain't a remake. So i am not really hyped for this ;p

I can certainly understand this sentiment, but given the trends in recent CRPG development, is there any developer out there with the funds to develop a game of this scale that you'd actually trust to create a third Baldur's Gate title? Many people, myself included, would love to play BG1 and BG2 again, but the ancient quality of the Infinity Engine makes that difficult for some people. Preferring a new game is understandable, but not very realistic, especially when you're talking about a small developer that doesn't make big games of this type. Really, nobody does anymore - except for CDProjekt and Bethesda, but they have their own franchises to work on. And I don't want Bioware anywhere near a cherished IP like Baldur's Gate.
