Did Torchlight 2 get released somewhere already? Steam shows its release date as Summer 2012.
They were passing out a lot of beta keys recently for a server stress test.

Ah, thanks!

I liked Diablo 1 and 2 and I was interested to see what 12+ years would mean for the sequel, but the reasons to buy this game are heavily outnumbered by the reasons not to buy. I wonder how long Blizzard can survive by banking on 8-14 year-olds with poor impulse control (oh, and Koreans) before they go under. Sadly, there's always a new crop of these people to step up and pre-order the next shiny new title from Blizzard.

Blizzard, you're going in the "no sale" bin with Bioware and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I miss the good old days of id Software and Epic silently competing for the most technically-advanced engine showcased by the most interesting story - developed on the platform that could best utilize these advancements: the PC. Now it seems that neither of them are able to take their eyes off the market-share number associated with consoles. This is probably why I haven't purchased a game from either company in nearly a decade.

I learned that some people, like yourself, can't take a joke. I have never seen error 37 actually. Only error 12 but turns out that can be fixed by changing the battle net password.

I also learned that some people, like yourself, are so sad and pathetic that they have to belittle other's game choices so they feel better about their pathetic little life.

So you are saying it is ok to give 60$+ for a overhyped shitty spygame and have to figure out how to get it to work...i just like how the gamers of today has turned out Clown

If you've already given your money to Blizzard/Activision, then your impotent rage isn't going to change anything. The only way to make it clear to these game developers that this is "unacceptable" is to not buy their game in the first place. What is pathetic is listening to people who knew (or should have known) that this would happen yet still bought the game and are now making such a big stink about it. A developer like Blizzard won't change as long as you condone their decisions by buying their products. In effect, you are enabling the problem.

I stick to my original choice: persistent connection for a single-player game? No sale. Sadly, I'm in the minority and Blizzard will continue to do things like this as long as 2 million lemmings line up to pre-purchase this kind of trash. All it means to me is one less developer to be interested in.

Honestly, this comment thread was the first I heard of "rubberbanding." I had to look it up to see what the heck that even meant. I played TQ and the expansion 2 or 3 times and never encountered such behavior.

THQ notoriously neglected this IP and allowed it to wither away to the point where the developers had to look for jobs elsewhere. Blaming this debacle on the developer rather than the publisher doesn't make a lot of sense. Also, the amount of money received through Kickstarter does not account for all resources available to them; they have been "pre-selling" the game for a while, stating that any pre-purchases will go toward the quality of the game and not toward profit. Much of the debate in this thread seems ill-informed and off point.

I have plenty of disdain for MMOs, but I admit to being curious to see what this ends up looking like since it won't be developed on console hardware. Just looking, of course. I wouldn't play it since, you know, you have to deal with people.

I really hope this doesn't compromise their single player games.

None of the resources for development of this IP have come from Bethesda Game Studios, the team responsible for Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout3, Morrowind, etc. Zenimax Online Studios is a completely different team. In fact, it was probably created with an ES MMO in mind. The different teams under the Zenimax umbrella have been discussed elsewhere. BGS will never work on a multiplayer game - it just isn't their area of interest/focus.

They're probably going to kit it out for Windows at the same time. I think MS paid for console exclusivity. I could be wrong, though.

You're wrong. MS paid for timed exclusivity across all platforms. That's what they did with Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, the CoD games, GTA4, etc. They want to screw all non-Xbox owners, regardless of whether you're on PC or PS3.

Actually, what Microsoft really wants is for every household to have an XBox in addition to a PC running Windows. Or multiples of each. But really, who will give a shit after the 30 days is up?

The first two DLC were known to be XBox360 exclusive for 30 days. This was known before Skyrim was released, before it sold millions of copies and before we knew what their DLC plans were and nobody complained back then. I guess if you're able to look at it in a positive light, consider the 30-day period as a beta test for the PC release. It would be a welcome reversal from the beta updates we've seen up until now. Not that they actually fix anything that gets reported, but you never know.

HorrorScope wrote on May 1, 2012, 18:59:
I just wonder how many 360's this technique really sells?

The purpose is to make the 360 a more attractive choice than the PS3. This is Microsoft's often narrow perspective on shaping market share. And they wonder why nobody believes them when they say they're making PC gaming a priority.

Reading that all of the original art and 3d models for the games were "lost" almost makes me want to cry.

It's astounding how short-sighted people can be at times.

That's precisely why I cringe whenever someone from Bioware mentions the "BioWare Vault." This stuff was either cast aside when EA bribed bought BioWare or it sits in BioWare's ass vault, never to be used by a respectable game developer again.

Where are the promised screenshots? A few out of focus shots of it on an iPad don't qualify. The only reason a person would be a fan of Baldur's Gate is if they played it on the PC (only platform that's ever supported it), so it stands to reason that this is the core group that will be the most excited to hear about an HD treatment. Yet all we have to look at is multiplatform support and some iPad screenshots that don't show anything at all. This seems more like an effort to compile all the good mods and make the game run on iOS devices rather than make it better than it ever was on the PC. I'll continue to grow more skeptical until I see some screens.

Not to belittle the effort that went into this, but all the movie quotes were starting to get on my nerves. Is this a translation issue, because it's pretty obvious when you rip a line from a well-known film and use it as dialog or chatter. Also, I would have loved to have seen this in a prettier engine like the one Freelancer used. Oh well.

The solution is easy: don't buy Bioware games. At the very least, stop the lemming behavior of pre-purchasing every title they produce.

The intractable nature of Bioware's lead designers (and their equivalents) will not change until market figures make it clear. No amount of bitching in forums will change this, since as many have pointed out here and elsewhere, Bioware and EA have well-developed strategies for dealing with negative feedback. If you don't give them your money, they lose the argument that they have more loyal fans than critics.

If you experience strange or flickering/shimmering shadows with this patch, make sure you update your GPU drivers - that was a probable fix reported during the beta. I'm sure there will soon be a mod to disable the killcams, or you could just type:

set killmoverandom to 0

in the console. Sorry, console-people, you're stuck waiting for an official solution.
