Wait, I thought The Orville was a comedy/spoof? Am I wrong about that?

The NSA encryption stuff is nothing new. The NSA has been trying to throttle encryption for at least 30 years, probably longer. Think PGP... it was what started my interest in cryptography.

I didn't see Wonder Woman, but everyone I know who did liked it. *shrug* plan to catch it when it hits the movie channels. That's the best treatment this movie can hope for from me. And somehow I doubt it will rise to that level...

Watching "The Vietnam War" is depressing in so many ways.
I haven't watched, but I am recording it. And yeah, I'm expecting some stomach wrenching but not because of the gore of war...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I would love to hear the pitch made to the money guys which convinced them to fund the project... because frankly, other than heavy kick backs I can't imagine why someone would put up the money.

Oh brother, they are remaking Tomb Raider. Hollywood has no common sense... but I guess that isn't exactly new information.

Edit: Ahh, I see Blue has a separate news entry for it...

The article says, "despite the company's assurances that it had spent billions hardening its systems after 90% of its customers lost power to 2005's Hurricane Wilma."

Hmm, "assurances" -- I wonder if they actually did spend billions hardening the systems or simply claim to have...

The Florida power stuff is incredible. Amazing how business leaders can decry all the "unnecessary regulations" they have to comply with and yet there are ridiculous situations like that. It isn't criminal, but it should be.

I want the new South Park season to have an episode about Star Citizen, with a fittingly comedic representation of both Chris Roberts and Derek Smart,
This might actually result in me watching more than two or three minutes of an episode of South Park for the first time ever.

*ugh* I was afraid that's what you talking about. And as far as having influence over people... it sure seems to me the religious right has far more political power than any group I associate with.

I was amused slightly by the fact that part of his reasoning for deciding the alert was false was the report of only five missile launches. The assumption being a first strike attack would be a full on assault. Which is the exact opposite reasoning used in "War Games" to convince the general the launch of many hundreds of missiles by Russia is false. Granted one is reality one is a movie, still... got a chuckle out of me.

Where else is there to go? And this comes at the request of the advertisers, who don't want to pay for certain content.
Good question. I don't have a high level of interest in this subject but I have to believe if alternate sites to YouTube don't exist (I'm guessing they already do) they will start popping up when popular YouTubers with millions of followers start looking for them. Hell, I'm surprised several of the most popular of them haven't pooled their money and created such a site already. YouTube is not unassailable. Giants do sometime fall.

Is it just me, or does it seem like YouTube is shooting themselves in the foot? I mean, yeah -- there will always be people uploading stupid cat and baby videos, but I've always assumed the majority of YouTube's revenue was coming from content providers who monetized their content. And when the content providers can't monetize it, they are going to go somewhere else...

Is that a bad assumption on my part?

Well, it's only slightly better than "A.I. Artificial Intelligence"; a fusion of Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick's styles that doesn't quite work.
Well, I never actually saw Warhorse so I can't legitimately compare the two. However, I will say I went into AI with very low expectations and while it wasn't particularly good, it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared it would be.
