The analyst notes that this does not necessarily correlate to poor sales at this time, while seemingly contradictorily saying "one or two bad iterations can ruin the long-term value of a license"

In most cases this would be confusing, but this is EA, the company that eliminates as much competition as possible so you have to buy their crappy games. We saw how Ea ensured no one else can make an NFL game because they bought the exclusive license. We saw as EA bought companies like Westwood, Maxis, and Origin, turning them from innovative companies to mere cogs in the EA machine, content to grid out soulless sequels and expansion packs. In short, they find anything that's popular and either buy it or ensure it can't compete with their own product. With tactics like that, it doesn't matter how bad the company image is, it's hard to avoid them.

Everytime I see some music/movie company or organiization trying to charge royalties or propose new taxes for devices/services/media that could be used to pirate music/movies (i.e. the cassette tax, music CDR taxes and so on) it pisses me off.

First off, this assumes that people using such devices/services/media are not only using them to pirate music, but they're pirating the music of the company or organization that seeks the royalties or tax. What if my iPod has no pirated music that is the property of Universal(which considering that it currently has only non-music podcasts, is a good bet)? Why should I pay them because I could be pirating music?

Secondly, and the part that really pisses me off, is that these extra fees generally give you no extra rights. So you pay the extra fee in the price of the product you buy, yet you still can't freely download their music. As a consumer, you're screwed either way. You legally obtain your music, you're paying extra money because you're assumed to be a pirate. You illegally obtain your music, and you can still be sued despite "paying" for it through the fee.

This is nothing but a scummy money-making attempt that charges consumers for something they never recieve.

Thanks to FreonTrip for summing up everything I was going to post. I used to be excited about this operating system, but that was years ago when it was going to have all these great new features. Those features one by one were removed, only to be replaced with new restrictions on how I can use my computer.

Who is 10tacle studios and why do I care they have the Ferrari license? It's not as if nearly every racing game from Need for Speed to Project Gotham Racing doesn't already have the Ferrari license. Move along.

It's odd, but I know exactly what you mean. In the 3DO days, this would have been a poor looking 3D prerendered fighter; modern technology now allows us to render that same cheap plastic look in real time!

I sympathize with you PA. My not-quite-launch 360 died in late August and if/when I risk getting a new one (most likely after either a price drop or the new, smaller, presumably cooler running CPU versions are available next year) I'll be going through the same fun to use my arcade games.

Hmm.... never would have thought of bringing this to arcade, but if they get the multiplayer right (co-op, I'm looking at you)and it doesn't lag horribly over live, this could be awesome.

Oh and good call throwing in HD King Kong and the remote into the HD-DVD bundle, at least for the initial run or whatever the limited time is.

Now if my 360 would only work...

Other than the beginning music and a two-barrelled tank, what exactly made that Red Alert? That was just LEGO army soldiers fighting (but is was kinda neat).

I remember reading in an interview that Chris Taylor said he was making the game so that rushing wasn't a valid strategy. He said in most cases, the maps were too large for rushing to be a valid strategy, because by the time your troops mobilized and made it to the enemy base, they would outnumber your forces and be technologically superior. He did say the smaller maps would be more conducive to rushing though.

Considering he made TA, a game which is still more impressive than many RTSes since then, I have faith in him making another great game.

0LOS ANGELES -
Paris Hilton was arrested early Thursday and booked on suspicion of DUI after she was spotted driving her Mercedes erratically in Hollywood, police said. Her publicist said she had one margarita on an empty stomach and was tired from working all day.

Now I know her publicist is lying. Since when does being a dumb whore qualify as tiring or work?

On an unrelated note, I am not even remotely a lawyer, but I did take a law & economics course one time. It seems to me that when a national television company goes on national tv and announces it's going to give a lucky fan a new car, a rational person would expect it to be a real car, not a cheap toy. The announcement was clearly in bad faith and knowingly deceptive; a rational person would expect that viewers would stick around for the last few minutes of the game to see the winner.

I'd consider Fox Sports to have entered into a verbal contract with Good. He provided the excited fan that held viewers (oh so important for advertisers that had commercials during the end of the game), and in exchange was to recieve a car, which a rational person would have expected to be a real, drivable car (and if you want to get technical, I wouldn't consider a toy car an actual car, but a replica). Instead, he was negatively impacted (made a fool of on national tv), while Fox still benefitted from extra viewers. I'd say they owe him a real car.

So if I'm reading this correctly, they still have not begun actual production on the PS3, and won't until next month (assuming everything works out, and we know how well it's been going so far). At least for Sony this guarantees there will be plenty of sold-out launch stories to fuel any hype that may be left.

For people thinking they'll get one on launch day... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Either you have insane luck, have friends with shitty jobs or you'll be stupid enough to camp outside a store for 24 hours.
If it's the last case, why bother?

They'll camp out because you just know they'll get $1400+ for the $600 version on ebay.

On a side note, I bet the bundles game stores force you to purchase to get a console early on just became significantly larger.

Ok, now I'm beggining to think even *I* don't want a PS3.

Especially if Assassin's Creed comes out on the 360. At that point, there won't really be any immediate reason to get one, if at all. Hell, even Konami has said they want to do 360 games and are shying away from the PS3.

I take it you'll be cancelling your PS3 pre-order now (if you had one):

I was expecting it to be Playstation 3: "I'm rich, beotch!" -- but this is close enough.

Yeah, it will be like some of the folk in the hood who are "car poor". Or those who live in the burbs who over purchased on their mortgage and can't afford anything else.

A lot of PS3 people will be "console poor". Won't be able to afford anything else - so it will be their life.

Is that why they chose a graffiti-esqe font? Looks like something a rapper would have hanging from a chain around his neck.

As for the commercial, I'd parody Chapelle's "Samuel Jackson Beer" skit:

<Three guys lined up at a video game store, Samuel Jackson is behind the counter>

Samuel Jackson: "What can I get for ya'll motherf**kers?"

Guy 1: "I'd like a Wii, please."

Guy 2: "I'll have an Xbox 360."

Guy 3: "I'll take a Playstation 3.

Guy 1: "Wait, I'll have a Playstation 3 too."

Guy 2: "Me three!"

<all laugh>

<cut to Samuel Jackson, handing PS3s to the guys>

Samuel Jackson: "GOOD MOTHERF**KING CHOICE, MOTHERF**KERS! BUY SOME GAMES! YOU'LL BE BROKE IN NO TIME! YOU MIGHT EVEN BUY A BLUERAY DISC OR TWO! MMMM MMMM BITCH!"

Guy 2: "But if everyone buys a PS3, what will happen to the other consoles? Will they die?"

Samuel Jackson: "YES THEY DESERVE TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!"

<cut to Samuel Jackson infront of the "This is Living" PS3 logo>

Samuel Jackson: "This is motherf**king living, motherf**kers!"

<commercial fades out>

And with that, I'm going to go get a life.....

Oddly the current style reminds me of the SNES somehow. I think somehow, and I know this sounds weird, it's the color scheme (and the textures) they use.

This new demo is much better than the E3 demo (as to be expected from the extra time working on it). They upped the timer to 1 hour and made the explorable portion larger. I'd say the control are alos significantly better.

I played it yesterday and it really was pretty fun just driving around for the heck of it, let alone doing the races. From the looks of it, I'd say this game will be well worth the $40.

I gave it a go last night (single player) and didn't have any major complaints. I haven't noticed any duplicate cards yet, but it would be kinda funny to get five of a kind (wonder how the game would handle that...just treat it as four of a kind most likely) Haven't played online yet, but as it was pointed out the game is free, so the problems don't bother me so much. It's still fun.

On a side note, I'm still stunned that Sony isn't making PS3s yet with under 3 months to go. Are they going out of their way to have extreme shortages?

Does this depress anyone else? It scares me how many people completely dismiss evolution, and I'm wondering how much longer it'll be until we start debating the shape of the earth and whether it's the center of the universe again.

Dell Inc. (DELL) said it would discontinue selling its Dell-branded DJ Ditty MP3 music player and direct the financial resources to core consumer products, including its personal computer and television lines.

Yes, because when I think Dell, I think televisions.

Figueroa declined to elaborate on DJ Ditty sales. "People bought them," he said.

Which is true of every product ever released...
