So is CS:Source just cs with and updated graphics engine ?

Yup. The funniest part is that the hardcore CS playes I know hate it. IT'S THE SAME DAMN GAME! Anytime they play a diffeent game (even when IT'S THE SAME ONE!) they have a laundry list of complaints that don't make any sense."The physics are wierd", "The mouse moves funny", "The sound doesn't sound right".

Ugh. But at least as someone said above, it keeps these jackasses out of the better games.

on the beer topic, anyone here brew their own? I do, and just got a spare fridge which I want to change into a beer-fridge, with a system inside (keg or something) from which I can run hoses to taps attached to the door of the fridge. Anyone have any experience with that kind of mumbo-pocus?

All the best parties I've been to had a beer fridge. It's not terribly difficult to do. All you need is enough space for the keg and CO2. A hole is bored out in the door and enough slack is given on the hose for it to open and shut. A tap is sttatched to the hole and you should be good to go.

If you know anyone that lives in a trailer court will probably know someone that can hook you up with this. Not trying to stereotype, but everyone I know that has done this has either a) lived in a trailer or b) gotten help from someone that lives in a trailer.

Howard Johnson is Right!

You have no idea how much that made my day. I need to "whip" that DVD out and watch it again.

As to the fp24, did you realize the next DX9 requires fp32?

Ugh....please tell me where you are cherry picking your facts from.

The only part of Direct3d 9 that requires FP32 is in SM 3.0. Since the x800 series does not use SM 3.0, the minimum for compliency without _pp hints is FP24.

One thing I dont understand is why people (outside of warezers) would prefer the hassle of a cloned drive when a simple no-cd crack is available?

A few reasons. No CD cracks explicitly violate the games EULA for one. Not such a big deal to most people, but that puts them in the "warez/cracking" category that many public forums discourage. The second reason is that often times No-CD cracks lead to incompatibility problems of their own. For example, if you cracked Battlefield 1942 (this was at least true around the 1.3 patch, not sure now), you could have issues with the game crashing and could only play on other cracked servers.

I love using clone drives because I can make my one backup copy under Fair Use laws and put away my phyiscal media. That means no installing from the CD again (I keep a large storage drive), and no having to use the CD or potentialy risky no CD cracks.

Though admittedly, there is one game I have been unable to backup properly. UT2004. This is because I have the DVD edition and, as of yet, Alcohol 120% doesn't include any native DVD protection resources.

Ya my friend told me the site prolly has it on bilinear cause thats what it looked like or a gamma issue. Doesn't look like that when everything maxed out and he's an ATI user yet doesn't talk trash about other cards, only realistically. So I dunno.

That's because nvidia forces billinear in their drivers now. And no, you can't change it back to trilinear if you wanted to.

If bandwidth were the only advantage then it might be a valid reason to use it. But PCI Express is bi-directional. With an AGP/PCI-E bridge you lose that functionality.

If you are serious about getting a PCI Express solution, nVidia's next generation may not cut it for you. A higher clocked AGP card *may* start to hit the limits of AGP 8x, but it won't be a real PCI Express solution.

If you ware going to upgrade to an NV pci-express card, it won't have a huge impact on yuor system. The next gen (and rebadged current gen) will be native AGP cards with a PCI express bridge chip slapped on. So the advantages of having PCI express will be null and void.
