Farcry mostly consisted of trial and error and frustrating AI, I hardly see that as being better gameplay. Doom 3 was consistently fun and never took you out of the game with awkward and confusing moments. That, and the story was interesting enough all the way through. Far Cry's story was a complete joke.
I'm still baffeled at why people hail it game as the best shooter since Half-Life. In my opinion Far Cry ranks up (or down) there was red faction in the shooter genre...And at least that game attempted to do something innovative, and had a half decent premise.

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, wasn't the last half of Far Cry the same as Red Faction's ending revelations? Some crazy doctor making these nasty monsters using human beings as test subjects? Except replace a tropical island with Mars?

Maybe there is no 3D Realms. Maybe the company vanished years ago and we never knew it. Has anyone actually spoken to Broussard or anyone from 3DR personnaly? Maybe it's some automated AI that outputs a message whenever 3D Realms is contacted electronically, and just inserts the line "when it's done" at the end of each response.

5-10 minutes of playtime. I know it's a demo but come on.

But I had fun with it. I'm sure it will piss a lot of people off though because there isn't anything we havn't seen before, but it is well done.

I remember Warren Spector saying something about how they didn't want the Deus Ex franchise to be numbered because their plan was to keep the series open in case they wanted to shift directions...Like if they were to do, say a 1930's era game with all the factors that makes DX what it is, they could call it like 'Mafia - A Deus Ex Game' or something to that effect...Or maybe that was just a designers way of candy-coating the stupid Eidos plan.

"So... you're setting the game at "higher skill levels" and then complaining that it was too hard? "

I game can be challenging and still be fun, but certain games like Call of Duty and Farcry are just annoying on the higher settings. Enemies that have amazing accuracy and somehow always know where you are does not constitute a challenging game. It's just something that pisses you off and requires a ton of trial and error. If developers are going to have multiple difficulty settings then they should take a few notes from Bungie, because what they did with Halo's difficulty settings is exactly how it should be done.

I'll be grabbing it. Ever since I beat CoD SP I've wanted more Russian missions.

This also comes out the same day as Fable, so at least now i'll have just enough to hold me over till half-life 2 (hopefully). Now I need something to keep me buys till Fable...Oh the cycle of gaming.

Red Orchestra has sort of been filling this gap, but its sometimes annoying, although the sniping is top notch...

"1UP: Where would Eidos be without Lara Croft?

Dyer: We'd be gone, kaput. We just wouldn't be here. She's the foundation of this company.
"

Hmmm...Would certainly explain a lot.

We have a blood rayne and playboy: the mansion preview. Interesting...The blood rayne character will be appearing in an upcoming playboy issue and we have the playboy mansion game coming out soon. Why not combine them, or better yet create a whole new game series out of it!

And hey why stop there, throw in the Lego-Starwars game that was announced recently and we can have Lego market blood rayne building sets. Create a vampire-like planet in star wars where that characters species originated from, and the ultimate bullshit-franchise title can be born! I mean, think of the demographic you're pulling in by marketing a lego-vampire-starwars-playboy game! It would sell gazillions of copies!!

lonely goth wookies who had a child hood filled with nothing but lego...Thats like everyone over 20 right?

Fable is out in September. Can't wait. Hopefully I can fulfill my dream of marrying 8 different women and turning them all against each other...and if not, then I'll just save the world or something.

As for the sims...I can't really bring myself to care. The game looks kinda neat, but thats about it. I only played the first for as long as I did because of the home building tools. Slap on the money cheat, and go crazy...

I remember I tried building multiple houses on one lot, and attempt to make my sims stay in their own places, but they tend to just wander around, invading each others homes, pissing themselves, sleeping all over the place et cetera...

Don't mean to be intrusive but...Why not? I'm listing a dvd drive to be, on average, about $35 CDN. And assuming you're from the states, thats about $2 for you right? Aside from simply not bothering to pick one up, I don't see why you wouldn't have one...

I love the first two games, one of the most enjoyable game experiences i've had. I know it doesn't really attract most gamers, but I found them to be just terrific...I don't know about this though. I was hoping Yu Suzuki would have just wrapped the series up before the xbox was phased out, or possibly bring it to the next-gen consoles but I guess thats out of the question now.

No mmo to date has really interested me all that much, I've tried a few, including Lineage 2, FF11, Neocron, and Asherons call but they all seem fairly boring (this coming from someone who enjoyed Shenmue). So, I don't know, maybe this will change my view on the genre, depending on how it turns out...

I don't think that each model would have to be identical, I mean if they're all roughly the same size then I suppose you could use some sort of universal hit detection model to accompany every character...Sure, there would be some discrepancies with each model, but its probably still more accurate than the hitbox technique.

Also, another problem with the per-pixel theory is that each model would have to be exactly the same which eliminates the idea of having a variety of characters...Doom 3 probably just has the doom marine so its safe, but not all games use just one character.

Thats just what i'm guessing...

Yeah true, but they didn't develop either of those titles, except tfc...Gearbox did the expansions, and about every developer on earth got a whack at CZ...

First Doom 3, then Quake 4, now an RtCW sequal. All we need is a hint at Quest and id will own PC Gaming for the next half-decade.
