Saw Doom earlier today with my brother... It was pretty much as I expected. Nothing spectacular, but its got some good parts (mainly the first person part - which was too short). All in all, I found it to be kind of boring at parts but good for the who novelty of the fact that its based on a game. If no one has ever played Doom they will probably not like the movie at all I think. Unless your desperate, wait to see this on DVD.

Media: That scare tactics thing was hilarious...

Space Elevator: I know you guys have some carbon nanotubes inside joke going, so I thought Id post this:

"Most people believe the material for the space elevator will be made of carbon nanotubes, but that technology is still in early development."

Question: Is there anyway to get Quicktime without having to install itunes with it? Annoying...

That halo thing was pretty stupid... How do they know the guy is sleeping? Maybe he stepped away to take a dump... Maybe he left and forgot to turn off the game...

Woah... X3 looks really damn good - reminds me of a really good version of Freespace. This whole time I thought you guys were talking about some Sci-Fi series on tv or something..

My family had a bad experiance with a Beagle once... We learned our lesson regarding going to the pound and buying a dog on impulse.

We did exactly that and everything was ok, except that he always had to be on a leash outside or else he'd run away and a couple times he ran out the front door when someone was coming in. The first time I went out and caught him, he turned on me and attacked. I ended up taking control of the situation and was able to bring him home. It wasn't long before it happened to my dad as well and finally again one more time when I accidentally stepped on his paw. I had to run to the bathroom in that incident (I was still young). That was it - we took him out back and while me and my brother held him down, my dad finished him with one swipe of the axe. Ok just kidding, we called the vette and had him put down.

Oh and Beagles have the most annoying damn bark..

Weird.. I thought the "OOTB" from yesterday was todays! Last night before I went to sleep it was the OOTB before that one... I will just continue here.

Zathrus, thanks for the links don't worry I am cheap too- didnt know there were free virus scanners! Do you recommend any other free firewalls other then the one that comes with SP2? And thanks to everyone for dealing with my posting regarding the subject over a couple of OOTB's.. lol.

Weird, Google didn't recognize my city! Mississauga.. oh well I just put Toronto.

Hmm I see.. oh well, its just a pain in the butt to reinstall. I do not use a firewall.. never have. But like I said, never had issues in the past so never felt the need to or wanted to pay for a firewall.

Well after finally cleaning out that virus I got yesterday, I went on the net and in about 10 min got ANOTHER one! This one was even worse though.. ran the scan and it found like 6 of them. Very similar symptoms but this one was even worse - put like 15 icons on my desktop, the background on my desktop was animated! (like a flash) etc.. etc..

I give up.. I don't understand how I have never had this issue in the past and now all of a sudden it is happening. Are these some kind of new breed of virus that work just by opening a web page? Anyways I guess I will have to format and use Mozilla this time *smacks head*. Luckily I will be able to borrow a 40gb usb HD from work to backup my shiet.

lol whoops, but thanks to you as well.

I followed the instructions on how to clean it, and it appears to be gone (no more taskbar buttons, no more weird behaviour) but the stupid desktop is still there! I cant change the background... I did another scan and now it says its clean.

Am I allowed to delete ALL the files in the "Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp" folder? There are still a few 5.tmp.exe files lingering in there from the virus...

Lastly, I ran msconfig and does anyone know what these are?:

nwiz.exe /install
NvCpl
NvMcTray
CTHelper

Those are the only ones that seem questionable to me...

For those who are interested regarding that virus I was talking about yesterday, I did the scan (thanks for the link Enhas) and found this is what it is:

http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_SPYWAD.H

This thing even opened up Paint and drew a star and opened up notepad and wrote stuff... I hope I can clean it, am looking into it now.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the help.

NIN, no not a red screen.. it just greys out the buttons and picture list and I am not able to click anything.

Enahs, whoah! didn't know that existed.. only knew about the "Startup" folder... I dont have time to look into that now, but will try it tommorow. I used the "Enditall" program to close all non-needed prog's and will use that to determine which should and shouldnt be under that "Startup" tab. If anyone else has any ideas let me know!

Ok speaking of virus, etc...

Today while surfing all of a sudden I get a pop up in my toolbar (by the clock) with one of those big red X's and a message popping up saying "Your ocmputer is infected! Windows had detected spyware infection! Click here to protect your computer from spyware!"

So im like.. fuck. I clicked it just to see what it was and BOOM it installs and runs "SpySheriff Spyware Protection". I uninstalled SpySheriff, cleaned out all my history/temp files from my browser etc.. and restarted. NOW when I restart, I still get that red x (2 of them actually) AND it has changed my background to a big message saying "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED.. etc..". I go into my display properties, and IT WONT LET ME CHANGE my background!

I think that the two red x's running in the toolbar are "5.tmp.exe" and 6.tmp.exe" in my processess list... don't remember them being there before.

I also tried installing Ad-Aware and doing a full system scan.. deleted everything it found and still it wont go away.

Anyone know of this and how to get rid of it!?

Any help is appreciated...

Actually, I didn't even know the answer, but I am quite good at writing. I don't think you need to know the technical details of the language to be able to write. But the fact that he didnt choose B after using his first thing and it being 75%.. that was just stupid.
