Within 5 years the Internet is going to be hobbled beyond usefulness, at least in North America.
Cringley has an article this week (last week?) that basically says BT (or its successor) is the only thing that will save the internet from a Google hegemony.

I can not but disagree with the whole sentiment of the starting of this discussion; I in fact find it quite stupid actually considering the circumstances of such disturbed individuals.
You can argue about guns and criminals as long as you want but the FACT remains that gun ownership = gun crime in most of the Western World. It IS possible to cite contra-examples but none of them involve the US and lowering gun crime.
Good luck with your crooked armed police and your trust in the right to bear arms. That crap hasn't been relevent since pre-WWI. When your army can destroy a clan of terrorists with little more than a phone call it's laughable to think that holding small arms will prevent your Government from doing whatever TF it wants, just like it always has.

I had this game pre-ordered then I had to cancel my CC cos it got pwned somehow (a $30 charge appeared for 2 months from out of nowhere. Kinda glad to change it since I've had the same CC number for about 12 years online.) probably won't bother getting it now. Beta testers are there for a reason and it's not all about the company making the game.

Back in the days of the VHS vs. Beta format war, the only way to watch porn was to visit a seedy adult movie theater or to spool up a Super-8 film.
Hmm. Good point. Of course if legitimately downloaded films take off then both formats are at risk. It took about 5-6 years before DVD overtook VHS (made up figure but it feels about right.) but having a HD player also assumes that everyone has to not only upgrade their TV but also their DVD player. So the HD formats are fighting to dominate what is still a niche product unlike previously when there was only one type of TV and VHS had clear drawbacks (having to rewind the frigging tape being the biggest one and far more of an issue, IMO, that picture quality.) The HD players are also hard up against on demand movies from people's cable services.
