News Comments > Valve Cashing Out of Bitcoin

How is bitcoin even managed? Can they even fracture the currency? (and who is they?) (moving decimal points?)
Bitcoin isnt "managed". There is no central bank, where you can raise or lower specific values and rates. There is only one restricition, the computational end of the blockchain, where no more Bitcoins can be created. The more bitcoins are created, the harder it is to compute new ones until the effort to calculate the last few bitcoins is bigger than any value this currency might have.

BUT ... you can fork Bitcoin like a software, because Bitcoins are generated by a software. Fork it, create a new currency either as part of Bitcoin or as independent from Bitcoin from the date of the split.

As have the majority. They missed their narrow window and gamers have moved on, anyone hear of a game called PUBG.
Having the majority isnt always a good thing. Sometimes a nice niche is way better for the devs, the game and the players.

News Comments > EA Says Visceral's Cancelled Star Wars Game Was Too Linear

I'll be honest and say I'm very bored of that system of games and although I know it's had its recent successes (Breath of the Wild - which I have arriving tomorrow) to suggest there's no market for a "linear" Star Wars game is downright ridiculous.
As soon as an EA representative opens the mouth in an official function, he or she is lying. Yesterday, EA said that they had to implement lootboxes with cosmetic DLC because of "canon" reasons. In Battlefront 1 you could just buy cosmetic DLC in the shop without this gambling system. So, Battlefront 1 was NOT canon?

EA is just talking shit after shit. THeY are the main reason for global warming for the ridiculous amount of methane they are producing.

Perhaps it is for the best that SE/EM are letting those two titles lie fallow for a bit. Perhaps in the future, a different team can do both titles justice and create enjoyable games.
A different team will still have to answer to the board of Square-Enix. How will that improve anything?

I just bought Mankind Divided yesterday for $8. I look forward to finding the time to play it some time in the next 3 years.
Maybe this game has an ending in three years. The story just ends cliffhanger-style. Its soooo obvious that SE planned to sell tons of story DLC to finish the story. None of this DLC will come.

Its a good game, but sadly butchered because SE became too greedy and they fucked it all up at the end.

Less than a year after the console launch, I believe. I kind of want this to happen more often to scare people away from always online games, but who am I kidding..
There are enough people, who see games only as a subjective, temporary distraction, not as a cultural "thing" and therefore not worthy of preservation. When one game vanishes, they just move on to another one.

Crosses, holy water, and lots of praying to intel help against AMD, right? I mean - without AMD, this world would be a better place. intel would sell their CPUs at lower prices and would not hold back on innovation, right?

Some people... *sigh*
Is it so hard to see, that people want functioning products and not only competion for the sake of having a competition? I bought a AMD card years ago. Excellent hardware, really, but horrible, HORRIBLE drivers. Went back to NVidia with their not so excellent hardware, but drivers which do not give me a headache everytime i start a game.

Is there anyone actually excited about the Xen part?
I want to see what they do with it. Apparently they are not simply rebuilding the classic levels, but are redesigning them the get rid of these annoying super mario parts.

How many time they resell this 2006 game? It is a Windows XP era game.
This addon is for the Anniversary Edition, which fixed MANY bugs and problems of the main game.

This is the alternative to season passes and paid dlc.
I personally much prefer this method to the paid dlc and season passes. At least this doesn't divide up the player base like paid dlc maps did
You know what else does not divide the player base? Making new maps available for free! Allowing user maps. Allowing user generated content.

Yes, i know ... its not about long term revenue, its all about the quick buck, the next quarter, the next business year, the next investor meeting.

I hate what gaming has become.

I love what gaming has become in reaction to all that shareholder drivel

I'm playing the 10h trial right now and I've already unlocked a few heroes, not sure where you get those numbers.
From the original reddit posting, where someone laid down some calculations, based on his experience with the early beta.

Anyway, should heroes be easy to unlock? i think not
There isnt a problem with making unlocking heroes hard. The problem exists in the context of loot boxes, where the motivation to buy a hero via lootboxes is increased with more grind. The grindier the game is in regard to unlocking heroes, the more loot boxes are sold, the better for EA. And because there is no difference between heroes unlocked by money or by play time, people who care for those distinctions feel a bit upset.

This is a good one.

About 40h per hero, about 9 heroes are unlockable. 360 hours or ... just a few bucks, eh? This IS grind made to encourage buying those chars instead of playing the game to unlock them.

And this answer is the epitome of lying your customer in the face.

How? Neither Steam, nor GOG or any other distribution plattform has an age verification system. And retail for an older game is not profitable at all.

No game that promised old-schoold Doom/Quake/DN3D type of gameplay ever delivered such type of gameplay so far.
Exactly. And the ones which did, did it not by simply copying the old times, but by evolving classic gameplay. Like Hard Reset/Shadow Warrior from Flying Wildhog.

The build engine is sort of a hack.
But it was a CLEVER hack

Sadly it never gained the attention of ids source code releases. The Build Engine was superior to Dooms engine and looking at the capabilities of modern Doom ports like GZDoom one can only dream of what might have been possible with Build.

I kinda like the idea of going retro, but why not at least use a true 3D engine - IDTech 2 or Unreal (Will they still license the original unreal engine?)
Because they wanted to use the Build-Engine?
