News Comments > System Shock Remake Funded

So are you saying that they either changed the level layout already in the demo ...
They just build a small section of the original map.

In System Shock 1, the room behind the 451 door, where you find a service lift to the medlab maintenance (the one with the fuse riddle to activate it) has a big door on the right. In the demo, you see only a door texture. In the original game, behind this door you'll find the rest of the medlab, including the main lift to other station levels.

I mean you wake up in Medbay and have to go through some pipe section with ladders to leave it? That doesn't make sense!
It doesnt. Therefore you leave the Medbay through the means of a central elevator. And the pipes section is nothing more than a normal utility section for the medbay machines and generators.

In the original game, there is a bit more "level" than in this short demo section seen now.

Which high quality PC games are we talking about here, Sega?
CoH 2, Total Warhammer. SEGA paid devs to patch even older games like Dawn of War 1 or Total War Rome to facilitate the transition from Gamespy and GfWL to Steam.

Product quality isnt the problem of SEGA. Its their horrid business model, consisting of tons and tons of DLC per game.

5 People, heck, let it be 20 people in the last few months. Considering how big Blizzard is and how attractive Blizzard still is for luring in new talent ... i dont think that "everyone" is jumping ship and that Blizzard therefore is in some kind of trouble. Its just the normal flux of people changing jobs.

Kinda baffling how someone like that can gain such fame
The willingness of other people to quickly put someone on a pedestal and worship them, ignoring and fighting EVERYTHING which might even barely tarnish the new idol.

We humans are group animals, we like to blindly flock around "a leader". Rationality and self awareness are brand new to us stupid apes from an evolutionary standpoint, we still have very much to learn and a long way to go

Also it will be interesting to see if GOG will pull their recently-standard dick move upon release and force this remake-reboot as the only System Shock available to buy. Just like they did with Baldur`s Gate (and others?)
This is not a "dick move" by GOG, but from the current right holders. THEY decide what GOG is allowed to sell. Well, the classic versions are inluded, so this is a small solace. But still ... a dick move by the new right holders and NOT GOG

Heroically? Damn, this word is cheap these days. You mean, slapping together some long-available tweaks is heroism?
They meant the struggle to clear and obtain the distribution rights, which were caught in a giant fuckup for the last decade.

You do have much disposable income? Prey 2 will have nothing to do with Prey 1 except the name.

Please read, then think, then post. They change the scope of the game BEFORE starting the campaign.

So basically they ran out of money and now want money to complete the game?
No. They announced a Kickstarter campaign when announcing the Remaster. This is just an announcment for changing the scope of the game, the Kickstarter campaign was always part of the plan.

Not Valve, Bethesda. They can revoke the key/license to block user from using mods or entirely removing the game from the library. And on what basis? How about violating Fallout 4 EULA? Depending on what is written there, mod piracy is 1:1 game (asset) piracy.
Ahh, i see. Do publishers & devs have the ability to revoke licences from Steam accounts or is this something a valve employee (or a customer service subcontractor) has to do? Who pays for this effort, if Valve is required to press a button? Bethesda? If so, will Beth pay?

Point is ... the idea sounds neat, but i'm not so sure about the implementation. Is this really something which will improve the situation or just a quick coverup from Beth, so that they can say: "LOOK! WE DID SOMETHING!!!!!"?

When they have the steam-id all they need to do is report account for piracy.
I ask again ... why should Valve do that? And on what legal basis? This is something between Bethesda, the mod author and the uploader. Nowhere is Valve, Valves infrastructure or a misuse of a Steam account on the basis of the Steam GTC involved. Therefore i genuinely ask: How?

Why would Valve EVER sell its main source of infinite income though?
Why would GABE ever sell his company to his former employer. Newell is the only reason Valve still is a privately held company and not simply a brand in possession of a big corporation.

Do you think their games retain their value because the stories are great or do you think their games retain their value because of the near astronomical amount of mods which release soon after which drastically improve and expand upon the base game?
I was talking explicitly about the huge commercial success of the console (!) versions of Oblivion and Skyrim. Way, WAY more units sold than the PC versions. With no mods!

And therefore Bethesda has no need to handle this mod thing well. Therefore Bethesda has no incentive to learn from their mistakes. Because they DO NOT need mods.

Just look at the dev kit for modding FO4. The same buggy, horrible mess, which again (!) needs extra fixes from the community to turn this crap into a usable dev kit. Just a reskin of the old FO3 kit. No effort at all!

Because they do not need mods

How else would you explain the constant fuckuppery of Bethesda regarding mods? Its like Microsoft, who can burn bazillions on stupid business descisions over and over again, because Windows and Office products make an ungodly amount of money every effin year with no sign of decline.
