That's considered a mess? Some poor overpaid programmer's wife didn't like he had to work long hours to meet a deadline? Unless his previous game industry experience involved running a register at GameStop, it's like that everywhere.

My point was EA knew where the talent was in Westwood, and they took it when they demolished Westwood. Nobody wanted to stay behind in Las Vegas and remain unemployed, because at that time there wasn't another game studio within 250 miles.

If anyone can make game, it is these guys? Aren't these the guys that were passed over when it came to opportunities in Irvine whenever EA gave them all the axe? These "leftovers" were partially responsible for the recycled C&C mess that we saw year after year, but now they're going to make some new cutting-edge Star Wars game? LOL. Thanks Alex. Now I'll take failed bits for $200 Alex.

Well curiousity got the best of me, a friend of mine got their copy of EQ2 and I had to see for myself. As a longtime EQ1 player, I don't see any reason to spend a dime on EQ2. I think Sony made a gross miscalculation with a player base that has already grown quite disgusted after the GoD and OOW expansions.

However....some people are such absolute social rejects they desperately need SOME MMO game to be immersed in, and perhaps that player base alone will fuel EQ2 to some success, but I don't see it. The average gamer who just wants a fun online game to play isn't going to fall for EQ2, and don't know if WoW is the answer, but from early observations it sure has a good chance.

This game is an absolute waste of time. NEW PLAYERS: Take it from a long-time EQ1 Player, save your money, and your time.

EQ for the common person quickly becomes nothing but constant frustration, toppled with poor customer service, saturated with immature/greedy players, and an "experience" that becomes repetitious (aka "the grind").

Sony's time has passed, and the word is this game is nowhere near ready, but because of WoW's recent milestones, they rushed this out the door. Expect a ton of problems and issues if you're foolish enough to buy it.

Word is from a reliable source is they are rushing this due to the progress being made in WoW. This game is apparently nowhere near ready and a lot of content is going to be patched in so they can get this in gamers hands before WoW ships.

Buyer beware, Sony is a fraud. This is absolutely no shock.

I hate it that I'm missing another nerdherd, and even worse, King Dork himself is going to speak to the minions. Can you imagine the stench in the building? The lack of women? The amount empty doritos bags?

If the producers television's "Extreme Makeover" need a huge new set of excellent candidates, they need to get to this event ASAP.

The majority of people out there are sick of hearing about this game.

Who isn't?

The id fanbois. The now-thirtysomething losers who've dedicated their lives to Quakecons and live competitions. The Trenchcoat Mafia-type kids who knew nothing of Doom 1/2 but have zeroed into this game because of the theme and how well it mirrors their daily lives.

The outspoken minority who seem to think their opinions actually mean something are quick to bash anyone who speaks poorly about this disgraceful game and the twisted company behind it. Speaking in forums surrounded by other fanbois and the other types listed above gives them a sense of belonging and acceptance, labelling anyone who disagrees with them trolls/noobs/anythingelseinsultingacceptedbyfanbois.

So while I know I'm posting on Fanboi Cetral here, I must still must say this: Anyone who has been sitting around looking forward to this game obviously needs something else in their life.

/fanboiflamemode on

Don't expect me to respond to flames, I haven't read an actual message/reply in a forum here in years. But this will at least give you something else to do while finishing that fourth bag of doritos while sitting around, waiting for this thing to hit the stores.

Why get excited about an overly-Satanic game with the same shallow storyline as all their other games? Four-player multiplayer (These A.D.D Internet Losers who will be the first to purchase it will run out of things to do quickly with a limitation like this).

There's a lot more out there coming that has a lot more value. This is 2004, and far too many game developers have passed id by. Watch the sales of this game to be nowhere near expectations.

Oh Wow! So the "big" news here is we find that id is immediately going to move onto another storyline-lacking, content-lacking brain-numbing bore-a-thon as soon as they deliver the exact same thing after four years effort.

I have to tell you, I'm just so *#*!ing excited!

Who cares! We were the zombies back in the 90's when lack of actual content didn't matter at all. We've experienced enough shooters now to be past the mind-numbing phase of being overwhelmed at a shooter. id will *never* release something that has good gameplay and storyline elements. id's day has passed.

How does this differ from the hiring process from the earlier days? Oh wait, that was when actual talent wasn't a requirement. They're requiring talent now? Look out, Quake junkies...you've been exposed!

This whole quakecon thing is a collection of the nation's die-hard gamers yet social rejects, who don't have to take vacation time off because they have no job. Who don't have to dress up because they can't. Who don't have to groom themselves because they can't do that either. That includes you girls too. What a pathetic bunch. One look at the past photos is enough to scare someone that's even partially normal away.

The difference is Palsy, err Halsy, that I don't find any of it entertaining, nor do I feel the need to post about it with Internet peeps either. That's where the sad, pathetic bunch comes in, "hey! Let's talk about it!"

'Nuff said.

Obviously the only original news (that is, something that isn't nothing more than a hyperlink to someone else's work) written here can be found in this section, and it seems to be the most interesting to many because apparently their lives or even more boring than the one telling the stories.

"Top Enchanters in EQ"? How would one even measure that, especially with so many other servers out there filled with characters you never knew. I'm sure you're probably a good player if you were in one of the higher end guilds, but still, being "l33t" doesn't add any weight to your comments.

"Big Whoop. It's still freaking cheap."

How would you like to go out and buy something, let's say a DVD player, but after 6 months you find out there's movies it can't play, and you have to purchase from the manufacturer the addon to allow it to play other DVDs. To make matters worse, there were issues with the original DVD player that never got fixed and yet now they're trying to sell you more stuff.

That's how it seems to me. The DVD example probably isn't the best, but I tried.

Wait a second, this is a little different than your typical situation with something you purchased.

They've set MANY of these expansions up to where if you DON'T upgrade, you'll be left behind. They entice you by adding items to the game and creating new features that can only be used if you purchase the expansion, and they even have been known to intentionally make things temporarily more 'appealing' (better experience gain, insanely awesome item drops) for the first few days to generate enough buzz where everyone else finally says 'fek-it, I'll go get it'. Then, after they've met some expectations, the nerfs are incoming. Everyone is then back to bitter and pissed again.

This isn't saying they shouldn't release expansions...it's just the way they shove it down your throat. If you play EQ, you know for the past several months you've had to cancel off their nonstop advertising for this expansion. If enough people 'shift' to the new areas in this expansion, others have no choice but to follow, since you are pretty much dependent on your peers as you reach the higher levels and what you might feel is nearing "endgame".

Don't diss people for being pissed...Sony has sh*t on their subscribers far too many times for people to happily just throw more money in their direction. Most are going to pay for it, but they aren't happy to do it. This isn't a case of The Sims where you can play your original game without the expansions and be just fine. You don't keep paying up with these guys, and you'll find your character's progression hurt by it. That's where it's wrong.

You're so right about the quality of coders in the gaming industry. Ritual is a typical example of a few people who decided to "go to Texas, PlAy DoOm, and make games...because d00d - Id's there!" While some of them may be fairly sharp, the reality of it is once they're out looking for work in the non-gaming IT world, its pretty difficult when your only industry experience is video games (unless you're like John Carmack, which could probably rewrite Windows on his own). But Ritual has never produced anything other than bargain-bin material...

On the brighter side...a tester might bring some real experience to the group.
