I wonder how many people actually celebrate Cinco de Mayo to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Just seems like an excuse to party.

After watching the new teens react, I understand why they made the new Doom a Halo clone in many ways. That's what the kids/teens market wants, it's all they know.

Edit: It was awesome to hear the girl who played it before say that the new one had a generic futuristic look instead of the scarier and demonic one of the originals.

In a super-weird coincidence, the smurfs were over yesterday, and asked for a shooter game to play. I set them up with DOOM on the Xbox 360 and they had a real hard time figuring it out. It was like my own "teens react" preview.

Felling pretty pumped after last nights Thrones! What a great episode...

I agree -- sure did break from the perception that they save all the action and big twists for the last two episodes of the season.

Of course if rumors about the last two seasons being shortened are correct, then they only have like 20-24 more episodes to wrap everything up, so we may maintain a greater sense of urgency going forward.

Hey Blue,
Considering your music backgroud, how well did you know Mr Spitzer?

Just wondering.

Never had the pleasure. We had one degree of separation.

I too find that strange that it was all removed - it said more about him than it was offencive to anyone (well me at lest).

I can see that maybe Blue does not want that shit storm of a debate happerning here, but by just REMOVING it I don't think helps over all.

Blues place, Blues rules though.

As usual, I let everyone play as they wanted until a post got reported. Then I just cleared out all the posts calling people names. It's not the topic of debate, in this case it's the inability to avoid saying things like "You're an asshole because..." or "liberal douchebag" or "sometimes you're a douchecanoe." Fighting is one thing, but name calling flamewars just escalate.

And some of the posts got deleted because they quote deleted posts.

It's actually pretty hard to get posts deleted here. Congrats to all of you who have been working extra hard to bring it to this.

You just can't handle anyone having a different opinion. So no.

I would suggest that part of this conflict stems from your desire to shoehorn the phrase SJW into any thread you can. It's one thing to hold a viewpoint, it's another thing to view everything through that lens.

I'm curious - what are "computer glasses"? Are these like reading glasses, but also corrective? Would I be able to get computer glasses that correct my astigmatism while also zooming in a bit at computer monitor distances, unlike reading glasses which only work on books?

Blue and others can tell you more but my understanding is they are set for a certain focal length (the distance from your eyes to your monitor) and could have some proprietary coatings that inhibit glare and some select color spectrums (like the dreaded blue wavelength)
And also adjust for astigmatism just like normal prescription glasses.

That about covers my understanding of the situation completely.

I have an astigmatism myself and these provide perfect correction.

Nice story Blue!

So looking at the HOTS lobby are you BlueHair (Lunara)?

Yes. I had an okay game. Got blown up a couple of times and did some damage. My one real big mistake (besides grouping for a couple of maws) was when Cho'gall survived with that nice disengage from the bottom toward the middle and I stuck around with no health long enough to feed a death. Other than that I had to split soak bottom against Pally during the objectives and just stayed cautious to avoid being caught out alone with my lack of escapes, which was compounded by being a little intimidated. So I just turtled up pretty good and did my job without trying to go for a solo kill on him.

Still hard to believe that really happened randomly like that. So cool.

My result was Moderate Deutan. They say:

Moderate deutans usually respond very positively to the EnChroma lens. We believe there is a 90% chance that EnChroma glasses will help your color vision.

Also, I thought Snyder's Watchmen was pretty awesome. Why does everyone hate on that flick?

That's the point I wanted to add here... glad to see I'm not the only one. I think he did an outstanding job on The Watchmen, including improving the hell out of the way the story concludes. I have nothing positive to say about Man of Steel, but I think The Watchmen was a home run.

I'm surprised BH6 has a 90%. Reviewers weren't in love with it. I suppose it was more "it's good, not great" from most.

I think that's how Rotten Tomatoes' system can be deceptive. A 90 rating doesn't mean 90% of reviewers loved it, or that it has an aggregate 90 review score. It means 90% of reviews didn't *hate* it, as all it represents is the percentage of reviews at three stars out of five or above.

A movie with a 60% aggregate review score can be 100% fresh by this system, which might leave the impression it was the greatest movie ever with their formula camouflaging its mediocrity.

None of this relates to my feelings about BH6, but rather how I find the RT system flawed.

Eh, was kind of neat, but I don't think it qualifies to be called that when they're manually intervening in the process multiple times.

It looked like all the interventions were intentionally added for "preciousness," highlighting how small everything is. I think it could have run fine by itself if they so chose.

and have helped somewhat right the financial disaster the place had become over the past several years.

Ugh. Please don't let it come to that. If it were to come down to closing the site or losing your shirt, keep your shirt. We all love the site, but I don't think anyone wants you to have a financial burden. That's too far...

If you don't mind me asking, are the amazon links helping at all?

I'm totally down with the Patreon, but I have no idea what an amount would be (per person) that would help.

saddening. for some reason i thought blue was the one beating the odds all this time or something. now i feel like a jerk for coming here for 15 years.

One reason I don't often go into such matters is it seems difficult to do so without creating the wrong impression, but I guess that's to be expected. Not sure what about this would be saddening or make you regret your visiting here.

My point was simply that we're still trying to recover bad stretch. The way things have gone here over the years have varied widely between wonderful and terrible (you may recall we ran with no ads for several months at one point). It's actually better now, and that's why I'm trying to work with the existing provider, rather than ditch them because of issues with ads. The idea of a Patreon would be to allow those using ad blockers to support the site if they so choose. I have no idea what the economics of this would be either, but it probably doesn't take much to equal the revenue lost from one reader blocking ads.

And to answer the other question that got buried in there, the Amazon links certainly have helped.
