Sensible soccer? Does that mean no game is allowed to end in a tie?

As far as building up a nice fanbase and getting everyone excited for this game, I must say that ArenaNet is doing a fine job. I have participated in 2 out of 3 of these and I am very excited about jumping into this game next year.

I am hating every moment of it.

I'm not saying it's a bad game, but who can honestly tell me that it's a *good* game?

Is the gameplay any good? No it blows. Linear, straightforward with boring weapons and a boring story. The three different monsters are nothing to write home about either. The spawn-a-monster-behind-you-in-the-dark gets really old, really fast.

Haven't read a single review yet, but I bet it's being overrated, being Doom3 and all.

For the record - yes, the graphics are nice (the few times you actually get to see it when the lights come on).

How can you say that? This is DOOM 3! This is the most proud of a game that John Carmack has ever been! I mean come on, it has crates! What more do you need than crates?!?!

Okay, seriously now. I've been saying for two weeks now how overrated this game is. After stating such things about the game, I got slammed. There doesn't seem to be anyone attacking our Euro friends when they complain about how much they hate this game. Methinks that the people defending it in the first place had never bought the game.

Yes, invisible walls suck. Very 1994. But chin-up mate, you still have the hell levels to go through. My personal feeling is that those levels were the best in the game. It's unfortunate you have to go through all the bullshit to get there, but once you do, I think you will like it.

And one other thing, at least the game is probably going to be one of the most modded games ever. You will certainly get your money's worth out of it then, even if it does take six months.

Henceforth, I refuse to play any game that doesn't not require flashlight proficiency at least 50 percent of the time. Steady and consistent illumination is what takes real skillz bitches.

In case you were wondering what those 'shadows' I mentioned looked like.

What I was experiencing was a total blackout, not specific to models or skybox. Who knows, it may have to do with the fact that I have to pull-start the fan on my vid card nowadays.

I totally agree with your dissection of the shadowing. The iD machine has always prided itself on being at the forefront when it comes to the engine architecture whether it be the curved surfacing of Q3 or the shadowing of D3.

Perhaps you and I are being too hard on poor iD. Me thinks you and I may have to turn in our l337 membership cards.

Does anyone else have any problems with the outside part of the game? For me, it's as if massive shadows are falling out of the sky down on top of me, and they are making it absolutely impossible to see even a single inch in front of me. If I turn around, the artifacts twitch and turn, and sometimes I can see a little bit of the ground in front of me, but that's about all. The only way I made it past that part of the level is because it's a straight path, and I managed to barely see the button of the airlock on the other end. It's absolutely NOT the way it's supposed to look, and I was wondering if someone else had had that happen to him?

I have a 4600 and I had a similar experience happen to me, however it was on the inside after the first meeting with the flying skulls. The screen went totally black except for the lighting from the models. I had to quit out and reboot to fix, quitting out alone would not fix it. It only happened once and it only happened after updating to the 61.77s. But now I look back and see you have an ATI so this probably means nothing to you anyway.

Coming from the guy who liked SOLDNER, please, don't disrespect a game when you have no taste.

Nice to see that someone dug through three pages of my posts just to find something to take a dig at. Okay, I'll respond to that. I said the demo seems okay. Then I mention in the same paragraph how the server browser works poorly and the vehicle physics aren't any good. But those don't really work for your arguement do they? Not to mention the post a page before that when I said Soldner sucked. So now that I've blown that up, you care to address anything I've said or are you just going to Ad Hominem me till your head asplode?

But honestly it's not that bad and I am enjoying it. And yes it would be nice to have a flashlight on a gun, but guess what? It's a hell of a lot scarier not to have one, because you can either A: Be protected but not see B: See but be unprotected; I am pretty sure they thought of it and left them as seperate items for the fear/game factor.

I hear you, and that was the case for the first two hours. Then it just becomes tedious. Though I am not there yet, I hear that the hell levels you dont even have a flashlight. Oh joy. One other thing, what kind of light do you have that you are unable to carry a pistol and a light simultaneously. I understand that somethings are for effect but they should somewhat be within the realm of common sense.

And for those of you who tell me to just quit playing and quit whining... Well, sorry, my hard earned money was shelled out for this. If I were to quit, I would not get nearly the bang for the buck that I would get at the movies. You wonder why people warez games without getting a demo? Exhibit A right here.

Can I take it back? No. Instead I get developers that shrug their shoulders and count my cash.

I really wanted to love this game. I really did. For about the first two hours I did. The initial takeover sequence is great, it really gives the feel of the game as an excerpt from Aliens. That I liked. Then it turns into:

Goto Level 1 of Alpha Labs
okay goto Level 2 of Alpha Labs
okay goto Level 3 of Alpha Labs

and so on and so forth. Honestly, if this game has exceeded John Carmack's expectations, then he and his people at iD should just work on the engine and leave game production to the real creative teams. This is a tech demo, nothing more.

Lemme get this straight, you have people designing plasma weapons, turning iron oxide into hydrogen and water, and nobody can make a shotgun with a flashlight on it? Hell, even miners have lights mounted on their helmets since Thomas Edison. UAC may want to put a little R & D into that.

For all of you that have yet to buy the game, you can easily recreate it: Go in your living room around midnight, pull all the blinds down. Buy a two dollar flashlight and stand in the center of your living room. Have your friends quietly walk around you, every once in a while yelling in your ear and punching you in the face. You can punch back, but you have to shut the light off first. There yah go, all kinds of money saved.

Not to mention the worst sounding shotgun in the history of shotgun noises.

This game is like low-carb pancakes and syrup. It looks great till you sink your teeth into it, and you realize disappointed is the best you can feel about the whole thing.

I wish that guy would show us the rest of the pristine environment surrounding that computer. I'm sure the shine from the desk from the repeated cleanings with Pine-Sol and bleach would cause a serious glare which would prevent quality pictures. Mix in some Lysol and some rat traps. I'm certain that in between photographing rodents in his computer(it has to be a guy) he's busy finding a cologne to compliment the ass/sweat stink that permeates his room.

I can see the Budweiser commercial now.

"Here's to you, Mr. Wallowing in his own stench MMORPG player!"

Valve has supported their game, HL, for SIX FULL YEARS

As opposed to what? Is there any other Valve game they should be supporting aside from Half-Life? Oh yeah, that's right, there isn't any. Aside from LAN parties, CS hasn't been on my machine for over a year. I spent way too much on this computer to play that shitty looking game anymore. Shitty in 1600X1200, but shitty nonetheless.

It's okay. Personally I'm having alot more fun with GC2 than this game. Unfortunately though, the computer that can run this game well and make it look really nice has yet to be invented yet.

You can stop the propaganda by destroying a generator or power lines of some sort. That is what I've read, but I haven't done it myself.

Take it easy there Viper, no need to get your Soldner underoos in a bunch. Saying this game is decently playable is like saying genital herpes is decently curable. I guess if you've already got it, you learn how to deal with it.
