The game was hyped on its visuals, so it's only fair that it be judged by them. As for texture streaming, it's certainly not worse in BL2.
The game was hyped over megatexture, they never talked about making 15 passes per frame ala BF3.

Worse than Borderlands 2? Sure. Regular day in borderlands 2:
- You open a crate, there is money inside.
- The money texture HORRIBLY streams in.
- You walk 2 feet, open another crate, there is money inde, same model as before.
- The money texture HORRIBLY streams in AGAIN.
Dude, we don't have 128mb vram anymore, we can hold all of that lazy cartoon textures at once in our graphics cards.

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Feb 9, 2013, 08:41:
RAGE was a backwards step from Doom 3 in many respects - it didn't have dynamic lighting, dynamic skies, as high quality textures, etc.
Doom3 with better textures? No. People bitched about them back in the day with stupid nose sticking screenshots like they did with RAGE. At least RAGE looks fantastic as a whole, and runs good even with older hardware, which doom didn't.

Yeah, heaven forbid that a developer include the mod tools that they SAID were going to be included. Fuck you. If you want to suck on Carmack's man-juice then that's up to you but don't pretend to be slightly objective about the matter.
You should thank them for releasing the mod tools, very few AAA developers do it anymore. A year has passed and the game was ill received, yet they still went on with that. Skyrim tools also took a while, yet I didn't see you raging around.

My brother bought it for me as a birthday present and I played it day one. There were terrible issues with stuttering, texture streaming and glitches. Then there were the design issues, like the terrible quality textures (seriously, max quality), low polygon objects and dodgy lighting. Then there were the gameplay issues, like a virtual useless autosave implementation, insta-death if you explored freely, terrible AI, invisible walls (they were EVERYWHERE), the terrible vehicle physics, crude inventory system, etc. And of course there's the way that Carmack fucked over the PC community, with mod tools (promised at release) and higher resolution textures (which he said a) existed, and b) were going to be tested as a DLC pack). Finally you have the huge amount of hype.

There were more problems with it than there were redeeming features. Some parts were entertaining - and I managed to complete it - but overall it easily ranks as a shit game.
Your complains are still centered in visuals, so Verno is still right. The visual glithces you show, are Ati's... the texture streaming is a lot worse in borderlands 2... there are racing games with wrose physics... the gameplay "issues" you mention are mostly standard quirks in nowadays FPSs (console FPSs ported for PC ofc). But any other than that, people were unexpainable expecting too much from this game, didn't anyone play doom3? It didn't bring anything new into the scene! And don't tell me "Willits said that" or "Carmack said what"... all the previews and promises made by devs nowadays are pure bs. I remember a chat were Willits said "We have shotguns", I mean... really?

I'm just repeating what the official documentation says. And in case you have to know: 8GB. I had the patience to rebuild AvP1 from scratch with tools that had no official documentation whatsoever. But I do not have patience for most of my modding time devoted to loading a single map. I don't think I'd put up with that if you paid me let alone do it as a hobby.
I know, things like that and having built stuff for older fpss, that's the reasons why I respect modders so much. But still this offering is a lot better than EA's or Activision's mod tools

Im a console gamer who reads blues every day. All you guys ever do is bitch. And talk about all the games your not gonna buy. You endlessly whine about anti pirate techniques while you pirate every thing you can. pc gaming is dead. pc's are dead. no one even makes pc's any more. and no one makes pc games any more, and no one cares. My ps3 plays in 3d on my 60 inch plasma. Book stores are gone. Music stores are gone. Time moves on. Very soon publishers will stop making ports for you to steal ,or bitch about, or declare you wont buy.
About the piracy bit... Are you conscious that console versions are pirated up to two weeks before launch (if not more in some cases), while in PC we have to wait for the binaries to be unlocked (that's launch hour), right? Most of the time the piracy excuse is pure bs.

Please, everyone, I beg.. listen to my advice:

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS
It's not like I wanted to, nor I want to defend piracy... but in my recent case pirates won. I am playing DS2, which I purchased as a retail copy a couple months ago, I unsealed it, and added the cdkey successfully to Origin. Last weekend I downloaded it from there, fired it up, and the online activation poped in (really?! the Origin version? ok, nvm), I copied/pasted the cdkey from Origin several times, and guess what? "Invalid serial number", copied it from the retail box "Invalid serial number"... sent a ticket to EA, got automated response telling me to call them by phone. Looked for a crack, happily playing since then. Quite ironic, and it's not the first time I have to do it to be able to play a legit copy...

Well, it has nothing to do with the fact I was stating above, but adds... Steam is doing a good job fighting pre-launch piracy... And developers should stfu and try with decent copy protection before saying bs about PC, I don't know about now, but last month there wasn't a 100% working crack for Football Manager 2013.

It wasn't an analogy, it was cheap demagogy. Sarcasm, that big misunderstood.

I just wonder what you raging people play for real, I bet that despite all the bitching, you play all those "terrible" games when no one sees you. What I've learnt is that the games you use for comparison along the "bad" ones, aren't that good either, sometimes even worse.

Yeah, because girls also use 1gb of VRAM and need to be toned down to run on everyone's eyes.

What an airstrike of bullshit. RAGE looks good my ass. Shadows look moreso green than black, and they are static instead of dynamic. There's hardly a physics engine to speak of and you don't need to bite a wall to see how fucking abysmal the textures are up close.

RAGE looks bad, and if you disagree.. you're simply easily satisfied/excited and don't look at the fact objectively.
If you think RAGE looks bad, either RAGE must be the worst game you've ever seen or you need your eyes checked.

They got nothing on RAGE

yeah, just look at Rage's amazing textures: woooow
No place in RAGE looks that bad with high detail settings on. That is Low res settings, obviously

You are wrong. This is at max details. I've seen it myself. Look at the gun texture, flawless. World textures, bad up close. Some textures, like clutter, are horrible up close. This is a MAJOR issue in the game. I'm not even talking about the worst texture pop-in I've ever seen. Just start up the game. In the starting area, the general store, look around, horrible textures everywhere.
Enough with it already, rage looks good. If you like to stare to the walls and touch them with your nose in your games, then you're doing it wrong.

Why they go with Crysis open beta again? Back with the 2nd it exposed a shitload of issues that made it pristine/untouched to retail... until well a month after release.

Why they even do beta? They didn't fix ANYTHING AT ALL from Crysis 2 beta, with rampant cheating and unfixed glitches that prevailed until well a month after retail was shipped.

F2P? Then, I will skip its beta then.
All the microtransactions are cosmetic, well you can purchase 2 additional stash tabs, and more character slots... but you begin with enough of both.

It's fine, but it's not the super-duper-son-of-diablo2-messiah-thing everyone hypes about... Still WAY behind D2. Will provide a couple of weeks of entertaining tough.

Also I don't understand all the hype about the PASSIVE tree, because everyone calling it "skill tree" is hugely misleading. It's a "passive skill tree", so all those spots in the tree are things like "+10int" or "+3% fire damage"... ultimately you can reach spots with bigger bonuses, or about 20 major passives, but that's it. Calling it skill (ot talent) tree makes it seem a lot better than it really is.

The skill gems touch is nice, but it's like D3 skills+rune implemented into items, making it harder to people to get into... and can lead people into make huge mistakes, like selling items with leveled gems socketed.

Also I read people praising the "smooth launch"... WHAT?! I logged in 2 minutes before opening and I was like 3100th in queue, if they can't handle that, they'd better leave bussiness. The servers crashed after playing for like 3 hours, it's not hard to get out of sync with the server, and I spent 1 hour to download a 7mb patch.

I think people is trying too hard to like this game :/
