Before anyone else freaks out, there's a simple reason why id isn't supporting Win9x; ATI doesn't support it. ATI stopped doing drivers for Win9x after the Catalyst 4.3 drivers were released early this year, so at this point about half the Win9x market couldn't properly play Doom 3 anyhow due to whatever bugs may lie in the old drivers. And when half the market can't play it, why bother supporting the market at all?

So if id and Creative just inked a deal for EAX HD, what are they using for sound right now? DirectSound3D? EAX1?

The patches are cumulative, so in reality, there's only 10MB worth of "new" stuff, plus whatever they replaced in 1.3 that was also replaced in 1.2.

GPUs have already been made "better," that's why the GeForce 6800 and the Radeon X800 are some of the biggest chips on the market today. Chips can't really have anything else added on to them without dropping yields(making prices sky-high), and there's not much effeciency left to squeeze out; all that's left is that you pair together chips like this.

PS No, parallel isn't exactly the same as dual processors; the later can really only use 1 processor if it's doing 1 thing, Video Array can use both GPUs however

Just to make 1 thing clear, Alienware will be selling these as whole systems; even if you can get one without a video card, you're going to be shelling out big bucks for the motherboard and CPUs(Xeon CPUs, due to the dual processor nature of the board), the integrated water cooling system, etc. You're not going to be pairing together anything less than ultra-high end cards on one of these babies.

Edit: And just to make this clear, you're going to be paring together cards that are the same, just like SLI; no wierd GeForce/Radeon combos

I don't feel too badly about where Chrome stands. I've played the game, and it's not bad(the graphics are especially nice, as is the female sidekick...), but it's hurting in the gameplay department. It needs some more general polish, some better voice acting, and some tweeks to the inconsistant gameplay.

PS I completely agree it has Breed beat; they aren't even in the same class

Mine sure hasn't. What does a "on hold" mean?

Ya, it's been out in Russia for a good deal of 2003. I wasn't aware that an English version was done however(due to the lack of a publisher to fund it).

It's a pity that they can't find a publisher in North America to release the game; the design is really quite good, and we're in desperate need of a new Space Sim around here.

One of the reasons the Linux version seems to run faster is because of the renderer used. The OpenGL renderer used by UT2K3 didn't support as many advanced features as the DX8/9 renderer, and as a result, OpenGL ran better because it had less to draw. Unless anything has changed with UT2K4, the same situation is probably happening.

You're right #13, they don't have a lot of total clout(FileShack being the biggest, and the rest a good deal smaller), but something still has to be done, and waiting won't accomplish anything. If something isn't done now, GameSpyGN might very well take over anyhow(especially if they ever acquire GameSpot), so this strike has to be done now while it still can.
