With sales like that I bet EA tries it's hand at a city builder!

Well, they'd be starting from scratch, as they've never done one...
They had some guys that did one, once or twice before. But they fired them and closed the studio...

These guys are totes dreaming they can pull off another SC.
Agreed. The vast majority of SC's post-kickstarter funding has come from MP ships. People will pay more for MP, so what they're doing makes a ton of sense for funding. But it's not necessarily what's best for the game, and it's a very slippery slope.

I feel like people on this board are kind of jerks about MP. There are a lot of games that are MP only now, but just because you don't care about MP doesn't mean no one else does, or that it's the majority view. I played a lot of MP Descent in my dorm (mostly co-op), it was our go-to game more than DOOM or Warcraft.
Descent was legitimate MP, so I don't think anyone is trashing it too badly. However most of us are lucky to be able to fly straight in a 6DOF game, so we're not exactly chomping at the bit for MP.

Can you activate it on Steam if you buy it from GMG? I feel dumb for asking but I like to keep all my games under the same roof.
Yes. It's a Steam game.

Holy cow. Colossal Order is just an itty bitty studio. 250K copies in 24 hours is huge for those guys. Well done.

Game Freak? As in the Pokemon guys? How did they get free of Nintendo to make a game for other platforms?

PS Mobile really became redundant once Sony lowered the barriers to producing native Vita games. And unlike PSP Minis, there wasn't a wider console audience (e.g. PS3/PS4) to form a larger user pool out of.

Word is the max size area you can build is 36 km. This is versus the hefty 2km limit of EA's Sim City. Don't you just love EA and Maxis?
36km x 36km, or 36km2? Because Sim City 2013 was 2km x 2km, or 4km2.

The game map is 10km by 10km. It's made of 2km by 2km tiles that you purchase to expand from your starting tile. By default you are limited to 9 2x2 tiles of your choosing for 36km^2 of irregularly shaped playable area but there are already mods which open up all 25 tiles in one game for the full 100km^2 map.

I'm enjoying CSL a lot so far.
100km2? Damn. That's big.

I thought Interplay went kaput like three or four times and finally died some time ago? Are they just a shell company now and being dicks about their IPs?
Correct. Interplay now only exists to sit on classic IPs and to try to license them out for exorbitant amounts of money.

Considering Interplay still owns the IP, this project leaves me uneasy. No one can screw things up like Interplay can, and I hardly want to see them rewarded for being the punks that they are.

Well he says in the video "We've got the name". To me this implies they licensed the use of it.

And 5 seconds of looking at the comments on the Kickstarter confirms this.

Creator Descendent Studios about 2 hours ago
1. We have the license
2. VR annoucement is coming
3. SIngle player is on roadmap - but planned for after MP, unless we hit it as a stretch goal
4. Scrip and Pals can be earned in match
WM
Just to be clear, I know that much. Which is why I'm uneasy about the project: because Interplay is involved and would profit from it.

Interplay being your publisher was bad news 15 years ago. It's not any better news in 2015.

After a 4 month wait from the first episode, no one should be buying this until the series is complete. The episodic nature is cool, but 4 month waits are the difference between eagerly anticipating the next episode and forgetting what happened in the last one.

Saw it in person. It looks very SupComish. They're even doing full LoS checking and ballistics. Which is great, because I loved SupCom.

For me, this looks like a chaotic micromanaging nightmare. But I'm sure other people better at RTS will appreciate this game
The game will feature meta-units to cut down on the micro. Assign a bunch of units to a meta, and then order around the fewer metas. All of the units within a meta will work together and take up appropriate positions to achieve that goal (arty will automatically go to the rear, etc).

Since they can't decide who owns it, sounds like we're all clear to pirate the hell out of it. I bet re-releasing it would get someone to find the paperwork.

I despise piracy in general, but it's hard to argue. There's practically no other way to get the game.
Indeed. I'd respect these guys if they wanted to be punks about it and just charge an absurd amount (it's their property), but not putting it up for sale when there's no marginal cost and someone is already prepared to do the heavy lifting? That's just sad.

Was going to say, looks like CS.
I was going to say someone crossed BF4's gunplay with UT's assault mode.
