Fuck Star Wars, there's a million other series I'd rather see brought to life. Besides, Disney is already all over that like cheap cologne on a whore.

Cutter the thing is, whoever is doing the Old Republic CGI video's have NAILED Star Wars. They are perfect, not R but more a hard pg-13, they are as good as anything Blizzard has put out CGI wise.
Interesting. I haven't seen any of them. Any examples on YouTube or such?

Falcon 4.0 came with a manual the size of an encyclopedia. And no one was complaining then about that. Maybe you're too young but there was a time where actually reading a manual was actually not just important but required. RTFM didn't come out of no where. Certain games expected things from its purchasers, like actually reading stuff. If you bought a Jane's simulator (the old ones) it also expected you to read the manual and understand it.

In fact ET one of the most 'infamous' games was actually 100% playable and made total sense IF you read the manual. Which at the time was basically accepted common knowledge to do. Today streamers love shitting on the game like "oh this game is so bad! What am I supposed to do!!" Yeah what you're supposed to do is RTFM.
Ahh, the good ole days. I still have the Klingon Academy manual. It is somewhere around 200 pages and spiral-bound. But by-god, it contained virtually everything you could want to know about the game.

There aren't many new games that aren't novelty for VR.

However there are plenty of excellent simulator games that have adpoted VR support such as the updated DCS World 2.0 which just looks amazing in VR.

Parked on the runway and leaning out of your cockpit and being able to accurately comprehend how high off the ground you are sitting is a surreal experience.

Especially if you fly a helicopter mission with night vision goggles, it feels so right wearing a VR helmet.
Cockpit sims are the perfect fit for VR yet lots of people pretend they don't even exist when talking about VR. Flight, space, racing, driving, mech, etc. There are plenty of them and there will be more.
The problem is that they're niche and won't reach a wide audience. VR developers want this to be the next Wii, not the next TrackIR.

Looks like people are still complaining about the game's name. Maybe they should just change it. But if they do change it, you'll still never get Prey 2, so...
Right. But if it has nothing to do with Prey, it would be a more honest name.

At this point the only thing Prey about it is that it's sci-fi.

Game looks great, but I have to wonder if in 2016 they couldn't have come up with a different weapon system from Doom/Duke Nukem/Quake's "Shotgun", "Plasma Gun", "Chainsaw weapon", "Gatling Gun that runs out of ammo way too fast", etc.

Because it's based on the weapons in Warhammer 40K - which predates Doom.

But... It's 20k years in the future right?
Do you mean 38k years in the future?
37.984K, to be precise.

I suspect there's no player movement and that it will be from a fixed position, ala Gunjack and the like. Notice how the player is always right at the center of the environment.

Yeah, so in the next 25 years when people are jacking directly into VR ala Neuromancer/Snow Crash you really think people are still going to be interested in Minecrap?
Yes. It's groundbreaking in a way that only a handful of games ever could be. It's the forebearer of a whole new genre in gaming. There will be newer versions of it, but even 25 years from now someone is still going to be playing the classic version of it for fun, just like we do Super Mario Bros.

And Blue, it's still selling $1M/day, not counting the DLC. MS will easily book $350M+ in revenue this year on Minecraft (though obviously not all of that is profit).

If you want your game to really fail, make it F2P. People love grinding for their stuff.

Some games have gone F2P and made it work (Guild Wars 2 and StarWars TOR and multiple MOBAs for example), but I really don't see it working here.

To be precise, both Guild Wars games have always been free to play once you purchased the game itself.
Which is Buy To Play. Free To Play is fundamentally different, and in an important way.

7. Re: Street Fighter V Patch Rootkit Removed Sep 24, 2016, 19:04 ViRGE
Personally, I've been wondering how much longer MP PC game developers as a whole would hold off until they did something like this. User mode cheat detection is a losing battle; because of latency you have to trust the client with some pieces of data, and that can be used against you. Worse, the cheats are usually run from admin, so you can't even detect when you're being cheated. At a minimum you need your cheat detection running at the kernel level so that it's on equal footing with the cheats. Punkbuster does something similar to this, as does Blizzard's Warden. And while they're not 100% effective, it's better than the alternative.

The flaw here isn't in the idea, but in the execution. The anti-cheat kernel module should have been clearly communicated to the user base on day 1, if not further ahead of time. And obviously it hasn't been sufficiently developed, given the lack of security checks that disassembly has found. Capcom screwed up here, and massively so.

The right way to do this, besides writing a better module, would have been to give users a choice. They don't have to run the module, but if they don't, then they'll be segregated from the users who do. And limit/remove their ability to earn Fight Money as well. Those would be untrusted clients, so treat them as such.

I thought it was clever of Blue to post these back to back:

PS4 Pro: "This could be the final nail in the coffin for Xbox One" - analyst.

Xbox One tops US console sales in back-to-back months.
I'm sure that was intentional. But they are also related; signs are that PS4 sales cooled while everyone waited on the new console announcements. I'd expect a return to status quo after the Slim launches. MS hasn't really fixed the fundamental problem that leads to the Xbox being outsold, and now the PS4 increasingly benefits from the network effect.

This is going to be episodic, correct? So they only need to put together a 3-5 hours of content out of the gate. That will be a whole nother round of bitching when it comes.
That's what worries/frustrates me. A delay until 2017 so that we can get the whole 50-ish episode base campaign at once? I'll put up with that. But if this delay happens and we still get the episodic probably-won't-be-finished-until-2018-2019 roll out, then I'm going to be livid.

On the battery front, keep in mind that the Viva is powered over a single USB 3 port, which for basic power delivery is rated for a max of 4.5W. So a 20Whr battery, about twice the capacity as the battery in the phablet-sized Galaxy Note 5, would be enough to run the headset for a minimum of 4 hours. To that end a 20Whr battery isn't going to be tiny, but it would be easy enough to hang off of the back of the headset.
