News Comments > Star Citizen Squadron 42 Next Year?

I think you miss my point.

Hello Games and many others have made claims and statements that have then been proven to be far form true, but with Chris Roberts, he has said these thing and then taken pre-orders or DLC sales worth individualy hundreds if not thousands of dollars with out even a solid plan or even a reasonable release date in sight, all based on Chris Roberts poorly spoken 10 or the Chairman videos.

He is selling snake oil and taking the money before he has even has given you a vial of water.

It's the taking of money, based on his talking before the product is plan and in production that is diffent than other developers who make the game first that has me spider senses tingling. (Plus his lying and deceptiveness with this project).

Maybe Derek does not have a problem with Ubisoft/EA/Activison/Take Two because they put their own money on the line other than asking others to pay for the risk for their dreams and hence have the apopriate oversight in place.

Anyway, some of his star citizen complaints do fall flat though. That's why I question his motives. He's chosen this game to take down amongst games that promised more, delivered less, costed more money, and took longer. While he has a competitive project to it too, it makes me raise an eyebrow. In one of his first SC rants he spent most of it talking about how Line of defense was better.

Really? Could you tell me what these other games that promised more are. It's not just someone promising more, its them taking multiplys of the value of a AAA game at release has a pre order, while still being far form even a point where they can realisticly tell you when their release window is.

And on top of that saying that it will not be a pay to win game when they are clearly pre-selling end game assits/goal now yet saying its not pay to win.

The amount of dodgeness and double talk and deciptiveness with this prodject is amazing.

Chris Roberts lies again and again. (while having his hand out for more money)

I remember Kingpin being the first game I played in 32 bit color grapics not that it ran well on my 3dfx card at the time (maybe a the next card along , tnt something).

Was an ok game, enjoyed it but don't know if it has much real value being that it was not that special.

Still, I'd at lest look at what someone was doing with it.

All these people buying a full-price expansion to - as I understand it - a broken, and bug-ridden alpha game... makes me sick. It sets yet another dangerous precedent and says to the company and others like it:

"Hey, you want to be greedy and sell content to a game that isn't even finished and probably never will be? Go right ahead! In fact, we'll reward you for doing so!"

So be the world according to Christ Roberts, savour of PC gaming.

I was initially disappointed that Lo Wang in the reboot had a lot less of the cheesy Asian stereotype I enjoyed in the original game. But the game itself was a lot of fun in the old-skool way and surprisingly layered with its use of skill trees and magic powers. The story in the cutscenes was pretty good too, although it seemed divorced from the tone of the gameplay.

I am rather apprehensive about the random level generator for the sequel though. I disliked Diablo for this particular reason and I'm not sure I'm going to like it here. For me hand-crafted unique levels beat randomized generic crap any day.

Good post, post more!

Lol @ the ZP review! Nicely done!

Yeah, maybe modders will make it more interesting:
- Make planetary landings a skill you actually have to learn
- Make more dynamic and interesting weapon system
- Make interesting space combat
- Reduce the frequency of some elements, making the game a bit more challenging,
Etc.

Stuff is in the works, someday it may really be something. Perhaps we need to look at it as an space engine they gave us. We'll see.

Yeah, well Minecraft is a long way form where it was when you could first buy it, but unlike Minecraft NMS asked for $60 straight up where as I got Minecraft for like about $10 while it was in alpha.

The biggest gripe I see with NMS (it's ok, it's what it is - there is some fun in there) is the price point that it entered the market at.

you only wish i was "in deep" bra, as i see it's an easy cop-out for you to slander people interested in what SC Tech and game play will bring to PC gaming. Simple minded people tend to use deflection when they can't come up with anything else constructive to say.

Just as a retort to this post, I'm sure you have never been "in deep" which is why your wife likes the touch of others.

Can you please point to this 'slander' I have done to people interested in what SC Tech and game will bring to PC gaming.?

I have had a problem with Chris Roberts and his deceptive funding of his project (more so make a motion capture film than game) since he hit about 6 million in funding.

He has been shown to have lied many times about what he is doing. His wife also as lied many times about many thing form her past and this project going right back to when they where not keen for the first 3 years of it to acknowledge that they where married.

He and she have been very deceptive.

You say I'm slandering people, well I'd say Sandi Gardiner has also gone under the name of Mae Demmings for some of her early acting roles.

Please, tell me I'm wrong and prove it. Have me in a court for slander then ..... otherwise you are just full of shit.

There as been not display of this economy that some people have talk off here and neither as there been of the NPC AI. Just two of the many many more systems that are critical to this game.

Also, no one has touched on the spaceship induction I mention earlier. What has been show on how the players will interact with one another other than I'll fly the ship, you sit in the that other seat while I do so?

This is a bespoke, trade show live trailer - not the game being played.

Ok, disregarding everything else, for a space game about flying space ships, where is the bit where one space ship 'inducts' another while it is in 'warp' mode to force it to fight or can you just 'warp' anywhere and travel safely?

Never been shown, a very base part of any game of this type. That within itself is a very important aspect of the core game that has not been touched on at all.

It's called gameplay.

Graphics, models and locations they are showing in that video, really gameplay not so much.

As I said, the video looks good, does it show that they are on the way to making a good game, imho, no, just that they have done a lot of work making some locations and ships and also worked on some of the tech* issues that they will need to get on top of to really make the game that they are talking up.

*tech displayed in a non-live environment with true numbers of players over the internet. + much more.

no game to date has done the different game types, graphical fidelity, and ambition of SC has shown ... awe inspiring? SC pushes the PC in new directions with its Tech and ambition, that should be awe inspiring to anyone in the game developing world ... the more I read these forums the more I lol at the comments.

... cracks me the F up.

Spoken like someone who has splurged way to much cash on pictures of internet spaceships.

Totally agree with CJ_Parker on this one.

That presentation looked good, form the graphics side of things but the gameplay was totally average - the space combat was plan and dull, the fps parts where way below average and the structure of the quest, with having to go see the guy in a bar, during which you must use a left, that Chris Roberts creamed himself over explaining how it worked like a real lift, well, how much fun is it waiting for a lift both on your way there and when you are leaving.

Also the way how that spaceship behaved while in the atmosphere was laughable, following the guy in the lift while it rolled, with no sense of weight or inertia, more like magic than real physic.

While this does show that they are working on getting their ducks in a row, it's a long way form starting to line up in my opinion.

They still have a massive way to go, I look forward to seeing how this work when in the hands of the backers with more than 4 players in it.

I'll give them a 7 out of 10 for the video but to me history has shown they have problems converting these trailers to an actual playable, fun, public build.

None of this justifies the money they have been charging for concepts of ships (dlc) to an unrelest game.

PS - How can people defend this company now? They've lied to sell pre-orders, created a half-arsed and poorly tested console port tech demo and hired astroturfers to try to sucker people into buying the game despite all this by rigging social media to say their product isn't broken. I just don't understand.

Are we talking about Star Citizen now?

Even if they release the game and it's great they'll never satisfy the critics, as the goalposts will simply be moved - you'll just criticise it for something else.

Goalpost shifting? Chris Roberts has gone form playing American Football changed the game to water polo and then got rid of the goals altogether and changed the game to fencing.

Also it's time to find a new whipping boy, Star Citizen has not been part of ks for years.

Exactly Star Citizen delivered! Polo shirts are not available, so rejoice! The kickstarter was about polo shirts, wasn't it? Am I confusing something?

And soon Star Citizen will even less be a "whipping boy", because it will not have been part of ks for decades. The more time you take, the better a kickstarter project you are!

Yep, totally not a part of Kickstarter for years, but still crowdfunding to this day.
