Well... just crossed this one off my list.

I fuggin hate @ss-cam Tomb Raider 3rd person.
At least most developers give you an option now days... even if they default to 3rd for RPGs.

Oh well.

Not really knowing much about it, whats the problem? You all seem to be slating it without much of a background as to why.

It has a fairly cool skill system. That's about it. Other than that it's boring as hell, and tons of stuff is not implemented... It's WAY incomplete. That's about the only way I can describe it.

Play the Beta and see for yourself.

Title says it all. I can't believe they are going to launch it. It's more unfinished than AC 2 was.

Uh... Again... Bethesda bought the Fallout license. Interplay already got their money.

Interplay doesn't get any money from Fallout 3 sales.

Why does Bethesda trust him to pay them?

Bethesda BOUGHT the Fallout license. They now own it, with the exception of an MMORPG and the Intelectual Property for an MMORPG.

This means Bethesda can make Fallout 3, 4, 5... etc. It has nothing to do with investing in Interplay.

As for the Morrowind comments... The game was good except for that character animations... and the primary person responsible for MW character animations isn't doing the animations for TES 4 or Fallout 3.

Yeah, could be a gameplay > graphics game. Frankly, it had better be.

Well... normally I would agree... but these graphics really do look over 10 years old. Sorry... but even if the game was beyond addicting... I didn't spend all the bux on my rig to play something like that.

Hell... even modern consoles do way better than that... so it can't even be considered a 'wanted title' for a console port.

Definitely not monthly fee material.

Between BOTH WoW AND EQ 2... the rest don't have a prayer.
(Well, at least not for a while... maybe after both launch and piss off a few people with nerfs / features they don't like)

How's that?

Well Duke... given that you only have 2 posts, I'm thinking you work for Nervax or something.

"The game is brilliant thought out."

No it isn't. If they were so brilliant, they wouldn't try to pass off an alpha for open beta.

"The idea about learning the basic building blocks of actions (OK, I now know how to concentrate my magic - can I learned to take advantage of less focusing?), which then allows to make your very own actions, completely after Your preferrences.
Brilliant."

I will agree the skill system the use is rather unique. I wouldn't word it as brilliant though. I'd word it more as way unfinished for a beta.

"The execution of this is a bit on the wee side, agreed.
I Did play it a bit, when it first went public beta. And I did enjoy it. But its got a quite steep learning curve.
No way you can do anything wihtout either reading the manual Or messing around for a few days."

I didn't need a manual. It's not that hard to figure out. It's not n00b friendly either. Once you get passed figuring out how the skill system works... it's very bland.

"The background story and the world is REALLY good tho."

No it isn't. There's nothting to really immerse you in the story.

"The AI of the creatures are the best I have seen in any MMORPG."

Hahahahaha.... what you smoking?

It won Best MMO of E3 from Warcry.

And the catch? Warcry is run by Themis, so of course it got a bogus vote.

The game sucks. It's more like an alpha than a Beta. Even 2 extra months isn't going to help. Needs another year to bake.

"Watching two great series falter; hoping somebody can salvage System Shock"

Well... EA has the System Shock and Ultima Underworld licenses... not Eidos.

I would imagine if anyone was to develop a SS3 or UU3, it would be Irrational Games (The other half of Ex-LGS peeps), since they did SS2 with LGS (While it was still alive).

I don't think EA has any interest in a UU3 or SS3, though. They are too busy selling console sports games, crappy-ass WWII FPS's, and The Sims.

Oh... an another example besides Morrowind....

Far Cry... Before a NO-CD hack... my Far Cry CD would spin literally for 5 minutes before allowing the Animated Logos / Game Menu to come up. With a NO-CD hack... I get to the Game Menu in like 15 seconds.

That's just fuckin ridiculous for a game that I legitimatlly bought.

I always buy my games.

I always use NO-CD cracks.

While having copy protection requiring that "you shuffle CD's to play a game", can be very annoying... what pisses me off more than anything, is the "performance hit" some of these copy protections incurr.

Example: Morrowind.

For machines / video cards of the time... Morrowind would stutter like a mofo with the SafeDisk copy protection... If you used a NO-CD crack and the stutter would go away, for the most part.

Another thing that pisses me off is that newer copy protections don't run on some older CD-ROM drives... even if you update the firmware.... forcing you to upgrade the drive, for a game that you legitametly paid for.

Copy protection is getting WAY too intrusive. It's getting to the point where I may stop buying / playing games all together. (Which would save me a lot of bux, since I wouldn't have a reason to upgrade my machine anymore.)

Copy protection is a BOGUS expendature for game comapnies. People that are going to Warez, are going to do it anyway. They have a game hacked WITHIN DAYS of release. I rather see a company put the money they spend on copy protection into "polishing a game more".... than wasting it on something that DOESN'T really protect them from the warez guys. It's a TOTAL waste of funds... and in reality, we... the legit consumers... end up paying for it.

There will be free speech lawyers lining up to get this case. I dont think hardocp is gonna have probs. Infinium is trying to intimidate free speech with lawsuits, this can't be allowed to stand.
----------

Err... free speech doesn't enter into a case of Libel / Defamation of character / Slander.

I'm not saying that [H]ardOCP did any of those things, but "free speech" is not a defense against those charges, in a court of law.

It's a simple case of "Who is telling the truth".

If [H]ard can prove that their allogations were accurate.... IL loses, period.

If IL can prove that [H]ard's allogations are false, THEN IL HAS to prove that [H]ardOCP knowingly and willfully posted false allogations, in order to win the case. That said... it's much tougher for IL to win a case of Libel, because they have more to prove, than just the "statements being inaccurate".

I'm not trying to be an "armchair Internet lawyer"... the only reason that I have any knowledge of this is because my family was involved in a Libel / Slander case.

Cheers

I've read some blurbs from Valve saying that there were going to be 3DSMax plugins, and perhaps May Plugins as well.

So, to switch and learn an entirely new 3D App is probably counterproductive, if you are already fairly skilled in one.

n00bs have no worries cuz they'll get confused as hell, no matter what they choose. (GRIN).

The MMOG Market isn't totally saturated, IMO. It's just that nobody is going to pay a subscription fee for GARBAGE.

The market has matured enough that it will NOT put up with "contentless, buggy, pay for beta, same old shit that's not implemented as well as the 1st generation games".
