Is this the same one that they rebooted during development because it got too far off track?

Yeah, they crowdfunded... started developing... their re-imagining went beyond what was pitched in the crowdfunding and wasn't staying true to the original game as promised... then they started over.

That was the right thing to do, but they have made other major PR blunders such as their kickstarter updates are pretty much nothing but concept art, and the demo they released several months ago (I imagine this announcement is a slightly more polished version of the same demo) was only for Steam, which pissed off a lot of us backers, myself included.

Wow! I never bought / played Daikatana because of all the bugs touted in the various game forums... but to actually see it in that video, and in 2020 (meaning it never was fixed)... yeah, that's as bad as everyone was saying.

Of course that video was without mods... so I don't know if any mods actually fixed the game... much like Wesp still plugging away at Vampire Bloodlines (which is awesome).

The article tries to blame Diakatana for the "twitch FPS" demise. (Until the latest resurgence of the last couple of Doom games).

I'd say, story based FPSs are what really killed it. Unreal, Half-Life, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Thief, are amongst the early FPS's that went beyond run'n'gun, and took things to the next level.

Serious Sam came out in early 2000 trying to resuscitate the "run'n'gun FPS", and for some it did so nicely... for me... I was bored to tears after a few levels.

So, IMO... it wasn't Diakatana's failure that flattened that genre... it was the more involved / more interesting FPS's that didn't rely on "waves of enemies" to keep your attention. Basically the FPS evolved into more story based... whether it kept some run'n'gun aspects like Half-Life... or was more RPG-like that let you built stats like Deus Ex.

The only anime I ever liked (and is still my favorite cartoon series to this day since I'm a gear head) is Speed Racer.

But if we put it into context... It was imported to America, the script and stories were changed, and obviously American voices dubbed in.

Is that still Anime?

Visual style, I guess so... sort of, The rest... not really.

Rumored leaks of the Zen 3 desktop chips is more than 17% IPC increase over Zen 2... Which basically would decimate anything Intel has currently in gaming, including this latest lineup.

What I've experienced with EGS freebies is that a bit more than half of them are DRM free, including the Batman Arkham games. The ones that require DRM aren't available DRM free elsewhere either from what I've been able to determine.

I sure would love to see a comprehensive list of AAA games that are DRM / launcher Free from EGS.

It is already optional for quite a few games. MechWarrior 5 would be one example. You can create a shortcut to the executable and launch the game without the Epic client.

What's the ratio? Like 10% of their AAA line up? I'm not talking indy games that are easily available DRM free.

RogueSix wrote on May 18, 2020, 14:38:
Epic also deserves some credit for not repeating the Steam idiocy of double launcher DRM in the case of UbiSoft games. I have bought two Ubi games and some DLC (Ghost Recon Breakpoint and The Division 2) with coupons from EGS and after linking with uPlay you never need to launch the Epic client again for those games. Well, unless you buy a DLC on the EGS. Then you need to launch the game exactly *once* more from the Epic client to register the DLC on uPlay. Once that linking is done, it is back to uPlay only.

Well, that's nice and all, but not exactly what I'm talking about. I won't sign up for the other DRM's either.

Pretty much I convert (re-purchase) my games once they are on GOG (Like the Last two Deus Ex games just got on there). Eventually I will be ready to dump Steam. Any left over games at that point, I'll just crack and say goodbye to Steam forever.

Basically, I'm looking for another GOG... not another Steam.

It's good and it makes good sense but I'm off board until they end exclusives. They're no bueno.

As long as the "exclusives" eventually make it to other stores... it doesn't bother me that much.

There are fairly few games coming out that are a close to a launch purchase for me. The closest I can think of would be Cyberpunk 2077 after a couple weeks of reviews (and some launch patching)... and maybe The new Vampire Masquerade game. (Same thing after a couple weeks of reviews and some launch patching.)

I don't pre-order, and I pretty much don't purchase on "day one". If I had to wait a few months for those games to get in the store I wanted (Which I won't... but we're talking hypothetically)... I wouldn't be that put out over it. By the time the game reach my store of choice it shoud be patched well, and possibly on sale by that point.

I don’t have a solution for that whole area, but I will say that just because I will take the Apple Store over Google’s for phones does not mean I really like either.

I'm on iPhone8... but it will be my last IOS device.

My solution? Since I don't care about a lot of apps... A linux phone. Either a Librem 5 or a Pinephone when they are ready for prime time. Probably the latter since it is way more reasonably priced.

That said.. you can buy older phones with linux pre-installed on them. (Have to scroll down to get to the phones)

And if you all think that I have a tin foil hat on... this guy makes me look tame.

Let's see... For my daily driver (Non-gaming Rig)... I went from a 20 inch iMac in 2007 to a used "mid 2010 27" inch iMac in 2012. After OSX Mavericks (which was the last OSX version that I could deeply customize the desktop... so... Apple really pissed me off at that point which their walled garden shiz) went EOL in dec 2016, I slapped Linux on it and never looked back.

As of a month ago, I retired the 27" iMac (Put OSX High Sierra on it and donated it to a local family in need (new keyboard and mouse, too)), got a 32" curved 4k Monitor and a 10th gen Intel Nuc (6 core/12 thread, 32GB RAM, 1TB m.2 nvme ssd) vesa mounted on the back of the monitor... running Linux.

Honestly, I really don't need Windows or OSX for any commercial software... the open source equivalents are really good these days. Gimp (Photoshop), Darktable (Lightroom), DaVinci Resolve (Adobe Premiere), FreeOffice (Ribbon styled MS Office), etc. etc. And best of all... my OS and applications don't fsking spy on me!

And speaking of GTA V... Anyone know if it's any good? : )

I enjoyed it for the most part. It's a little weird to play 3 different characters (bouncing back and forth between them) as you progress through the main story... but at the same time it kind of breaks up the monotony of focusing on one character doing the same stuff over and over.

I have to admit Trevor (The character that is completely nuts) was a blast to play in a perverted sort of way.

I'm not sure one could really call it Bethesda's engine.

It's a bastardized version of NetImmerse / Gamebryo, although Fallout 3 was the last game listed by that engine company. So, I guess Bethesda wrote out enough to call it their own, but it's till based on the same crappy animation techniques of Morrowind (no matter how much they claim to have "improved it"... or claim to improve it in the future... we hear this BS every new Bethesda release and the character animation STILL sucks).

GTA3 was banned back in the day because you could have sex with a hooker, then run her over and collect money (a "reward") from her body after.

LOL... I never thought of that as being a reward. Heck if you mowed any pedestrian down, or beat them with a bat , or whatever... they'd drop cash for you to "rob", and eventually the cop meter would go up. The only reason it didn't go up sooner is because you didn't use a gun... or specifically with hookers... at night and not a ton of witnesses around. So Rockstar basically got banned for trying to make their cop meter reasonably realistic.

I don't know about trading blows but they're usually within my margin of not giving a shit, I'm really happy with my 3900x and stopped checking benches lately outside of this release. But some people really care about every bit of performance with gaming and that's who Intel is trying to target, for better or for worse.

They're stuck for the next year or two and are just trying to make the best of their shitty situation. I think the community goodwill would be a bit better if they hadn't hammered us so much on price for the past 8 years. But hey their made their bed.

Right. The margin is negligible. I personally don't aim for a top end CPU... $200-$300 is my sweet spot for a gaming CPU. I won't pay $500+ for a few more percentage points in frame rates... especially since it's usually the GPU that will get replaced more often, and more than compensates for that.

Hell, I'm still on a Core-i5 3570k on my gaming rig, and since I game at 1080 still, I'm not feeling it holding back my GTX1070 all that much, which is the 2nd GPU in that rig (Went from a GTX680 originally).

The point is... I only need enough CPU to not limit my GPU by a drastic amount, when it comes to gaming. Intel has had very small increments of IPC from generation to generation... which is why my old CPU has lasted so long. I only upgrade for a Quantum leap of performance for my dollar... which IPC-wise is pretty much here for me.

Top end $500+ Gaming CPUs... Yeah, Intel's marketing will fool the less technical FPS gamer or the folks that don't do their homework. But, IMHO, most gamers are savvy enough to go to some discussion forums before they buy, and get some decent direction.

I think AMD gives better value for the money and I do a lot of the above I mentioned which is why I own a 3900x but many people give zero fucks about such things and just want the best FPS in CoD, Fortnite or whatever the kids are playing these days. That's who Intel is shooting for there.

But here's the thing... The current Ryzen's pretty much trade blows with Intel depending on the game (at roughly the same price point CPU). The Ryzen's coming in the next few months are sure to have a decent boost in IPC, which means not even 5.3GHz from this flagship Intel CPU will dominate.

As for overclocking... AMD never has left much room... but 14nm++++++ @ 5.3GHz... probably not much room there either.
