I'm fairly indiffernet to this one. Tim now has an MS teet to suckle on until retirement... and by then, MS will shut them down. So, he has his golden parachute.

Given that most of the stuff that has come out of his studio are remakes of the old Lucas Arts adventure games... I can't see this as totally bad unless the stuff ends up being Microsoft Store exclusives.

I'm one of those that liked the first game better. Got the 2nd one for free with some Ubisoft Offer... don't remember what it was.

I just couldn't get into the "hactivist" companion NPCs of the second game. I thought they were all lame, and the one with the emote characters on the sunglasses drove me up the wall.

What it aims to do is prohibit specifically “pay-to-play microtransactions” and “loot boxes.” It’s how these terms are defined, however, that will cause game developers and players the most headache. It would limit, for instance, the types of rewards that can be offered when players purchase “Collector’s Editions” of video games. Expansion packs that, aside from additional content, grant players competitive advantages over ones who don’t purchase them would be banned.

Doesn't sound crappy to me. Collectors editions and expansions that grant competitive advantages SHOULD be prohibited.

And here’s the kicker: This new law would also apply to any game that is “not a minor-oriented game” if the distributor or publisher has “constructive knowledge any of its users are under the age of 18.” That term, “constructive knowledge,” is legalese for information a company should be aware of, regardless of whether or not it actually is. (Try to imagine a game developer arguing in court it had no idea its product had ever been used by a minor.)

Again, Doesn't sound crappy to me. If the wording makes it so loot boxes and pay-to-win is banned across the board instead of "just for children"... I'm all for it.

This crap shouldn't be in games in the first place. If there isn't a complete "opt-out" setting in the game where you can't even see loot boxes (and the like)... then yes... ban them alltogether.

Uhh... isn't this an MMO?

Why would you limit your MMO client to one store?

Just been too lazy with a a large backlog of games to figure out how to redeem for it.

Android and Windows license revocation has a lot to do with tablets and phones though.

I understand where you are coming from. My point was that the ban wasn't because of those consumer devices. The affect on the consumer devices, I believe, was an unintended consequence of the ban.

I mean, the U.S. doesn't care if a huge population in an allied country is using a Huawei tablet, laptop, or phone. They really only care about if a G-men here needing to talk to a G-men there... and there is a Huawei device somewhere in the path, evesdropping.

Please read my edits.... has nothing to do with laptops and phones.

As for 5G... the world can wait for someone that isn't manufacturing Back doors built in.

The USA spies on literally everyone on the planet... so you are saying Europe should blacklist Google, Apple, Facebook and Nvidia and Intel too? Because I am all for that.

Everyone spies on Everyone (Country Governments). That has nothing to do with manufacturing communications infrastructure devices that puposely allows blanket easy access to spy on communcations. Also you need to realize the difference between "marketing privacy invasion" from companies that want to "monitize" you, vs. a foreign power that wants to undermine your government in any way possible. The reason for the ban is because of infrastructure equipment (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Cell Tower Tech)... NOT because of consumer phones and laptops.

You really need to get out of your "Trump Derangement Syndrome" on this topic and focus on the issue, which has been going on long before Trump got into office.

If the Obama Administration had instituted the Ban... it still would have been a good thing.

To be honest I hope China completely and violently retaliates for this. This isn't a trade war, that is literally a declaration of war. Especially since the orange hamster hasn't produced a single proof.

Really?

Apparently you haven't been reading the oodles of security tech news that have been exposing the Huawei "back doors" over the years.

Lets go all the way back to 2012 (Obama Era)... Former Pentagon analyst: China has backdoors to 80% of telecoms

Don't think they need to smear him at this point. They are going after him for "inciting a member of the military to commit the crime"... not that he published the stuff.

In other words... whether or not you believe the reason the US is extraditing him... I wouldn't think they feel the neeed to go to Sweden to re-open the rape thing. It's probably more along the lines of how the UK is jailing him for defaulting on his bail.

Uhh... not sure how Sweden is bending to U.S. will... I mean the U.S. wants him extradited to here... not to go back to Sweden after his sentience in the UK.

That said, I agree that the rape charges are probably bogus. But then again... so is alot of the #MeToo Movement. I feels sorry for the ladies that actually have a legit claim.

Harassment in the workplace by your boss is literally not ever a "prank".

A "wet willy" encounter and a "shove" from a argument... Not saying it's right, nor that there shouldn't be any HR type repercussions... but not accepting work until a public apology... "wahhh". Grow a pair.

One of the man reasons Firefox comes in a poor second to Chrome is they have a long history of breaking add-ins that people depend on, and they show no indication of ever putting add-in longevity as a priority.

Great example of a tech product where the direction is set to make the devs lives easyer, so much of their PR blather in recent years is all about streamlining development over actual product value to the consumer.

Everything going Chromium ain't a good idea either... even the alleged "de-googled" versions (which most aren't entirely) out there.

Everyone pretty much knows that Pitchford is an @sshole and a liar.

This is just another potential example if Eddings is telling the truth. Credibility-wise I'd probably believe him over Pitchford.

That said, he's also kind of being a pansy about pranks and wanting a public apology before accepting work. Just goes to show how much America has been pussified by Political Correctness. (And yes, I'm probably the last person that will ever be politically correct! )

I think you mean the government needs to figure that out and regulate it. MS (FB, Google, etc.) would never do such a thing voluntarily.

Unfortunately that won't happen either. Even California is looking like they're going to soften their privacy law: Tech Lobbyists Push to Defang California's Landmark Privacy Law

Now they just need to figure out people don't like mandatory telemetry / spying / data mining.... need to have a complete and easy opt-out... and the full ability to uninstall uwanted apps... xbox, cortana, etc. etc.

Never heard of Blackbird prior to this, but according to what is on getblackbird.net it was updated on 26 April 2019. If it is still being maintained and does what it claims, that could be good to know. Their Patreon page is looking a little neglected...

Cool! I’ve used it on Win 10 2016 LTSB, but nothing newer since it looked like they stopped supporting it for a while.

Win 10 2019 LTSC + Blackbird maybe the new ez combo.

But I’m still more likely to go with a server OS if I replace Win 7 on my personal rig.

Didn't make an account with Microsoft upon finishing the install, and quickly got Blackbird on there to neutralize Cortana & all the telemetry bullshit. So far so good.

Unfortunately Blackbird has not been updated in a long long time, and I think it's no longer maintained.
