We're almost exactly two years since my office shut down due to covid, and two weeks before it reopens, and this weekend I tested positive.

We had a week of meetings in London, and I tested negative on Thursday afternoon. Caught a Friday morning flight, but woke in the middle of that night and could tell I had a fever. It felt as if it broke around 5am. At 8, I did a home test, and sure enough, positive. My temperature felt lower, and showed as a 101.5.

I seem to have harder symptoms than most, but much lighter than many. This has been a slightly worse than average flu. No bodily fluids flying about, but very hard to sleep with a throat so ridiculously raw from coughing. I think today will be the end of the fever, as well. But my voice is just shot.

Not fun

Oh man, sorry to hear about that. Get well soon!

Not here, and your are missing the point yet.
You see, in the dark souls universe you always are an unwanted stranger visiting terribly hermetic lands.
They have little in common with you, they don't want to know you, interact or confide their secret knowledge. Like in Robert W. Chambers' "The King in yellow", intrude at your peril.

That's all fine except for when they do want my help, which they do from time to time, they could be much more clear on what they want from me. Usually when I wind up finishing a quest, it's completely by accident. I don't think I'm missing the point. I would prefer if they got rid of quests entirely and just had flavor dialogue that changes from time to time based on what I do. That would be cool, and would further emphasize that I am on my own in a hostile world. But it's fine, I will just ignore quests or use quest guides from here on. Or maybe I'll just kill the next NPC who spews more cryptic BS. At least I have that option.

I've never played any of the other Souls games. I'm almost finished with Elden Ring and man... the quest design is beyond frustrating. Everyone speaks in mostly cryptic nonsense that leaves you with no clue on how to advance their questline. One dude implied that I had to meet him at a specific place, and I searched for him for a long time. Turns out he was like a mile from where he said he would be, just standing around. One of many frustrations. Other times, NPCs will just up and... die. No explanation, no nothing. Just dead. And their deaths never get acknowledged by any other NPC, despite being in the same general vacinity.

I really like the game though, despite its many flaws (like the atrocious PSX era UI, which badly needs an overhaul). I'm enjoying the combat and boss fights. The art direction is fantastic, as always seems to be the case with From Software games. I'm just saying, if anyone is thinking of picking up Elden Ring thinking that it's a deep, open world RPG with a compelling story or characters, this is very much not it. Don't go in thinking it will be Skyrim meets Dark Souls. It's a Killing Things Simulator, and a pretty good one at that.

As much as I hate to link to Joe Rogan, listening to Kanye here (Why Kanye West is Running for President) explain why he decided to run for president in 2020 makes it clear that it's a mix of idiot, extreme narcissism, and probably other mental illness such as bipolar. I tried really hard to get through this without laughing out loud, but the man sure doesn't make it easy. I sincerely hope he's able to get any help and support he needs, 'cause I don't care how rich and stupid he is, he needs help.

Edit: I just saw RedEye9's post confirming he has bipolar. I didn't know that. It makes sense. Manic bipolar mixed with extreme narcissism, fame, and tons money sounds like a mental disaster.

Intentionally? Weird. Never felt the need to do that in Factorio, although I have done that in other games. Minecraft mob farms immediately come to mind...

I used to do that to stockpile resources for use the next day. That was before I fully embraced the "build big and automate everything" mentality, which made stockpiling pointless. Now, the only time I might leave the game running unattended is very early into a SeaBlock run, which I usually play at 2x or 3x speed anyway because it's so damn slow.

I just hit 5,000 hours in this game, according to Steam. I, uh, may have left the game running overnight a few times. As Mr. Tact said, the mod community is pretty amazing. There are several overhaul mods out there that have the depth and polish to be official expansions. It might take a while but I feel like I can get another 5k hours out of this game eventually.

AC's big thing was the spell system wasn't it? That you could sorta create unique spells, and if everyone was using the same spell it lost power?

That was the idea, but in practice those two aspects didn't really work out too well. Spells weren't unique but had unique formulae that was tied to, I believe, the player's account name. People figured out how to calculate the spell formulae pretty quickly though, and the 'global' spell power of spells never really changed enough that anyone took it into account when casting. I loved AC for a lot of reasons but the spell system was kind of a pain to deal with early on too. They added some QoL stuff later on that made things much easier, thankfully.

Reading this makes me miss Asheron's Call, Turbine's first game before DDO. That game lasted a long time but finally shut down 5 years ago. I recently tried playing AC on emulated servers and it worked pretty well, but it was a little buggy and not all content was fully implemented. On the plus side, some emulated servers had great additions like custom content, no level or skill caps, increased loot drops (cause I don't have time to grind like an out of school teenager anymore). Good stuff.

This game would have never been on my radar had I not heard that it had been censored on Playstation. That got me to read some reviews of the game and add it to my wish-list. I don't normally play these kind of horror games, but I might pick this one up. It looks interesting. These are the kinds of games I normally prefer to experience through YouTube or streaming.

Hell, the whole reason Trump got so popular is because he pretended to be a strongman like his idol, Putin. Of course, anyone with half of a brain cell could see right through that BS.

Yet.

I would happily gloat if he was anti-vaxx and died of COVID-19. That would be amusing. But cancer? There's not really much to gloat or make fun of there.

Fuck yes, gonna be spending the weekend playing HFW. Loved the first game, excited to see there's a 60FPS mode for it. I don't have a 4K tv yet, so I'm THRILLED that devs are putting 1080p/60fps modes in their games. Ratchet and Clank has a 60FPS with raytracing mode, but it's limited to 1080p. So what? They use a bunch of AA and the game looks sharp and clean and moves butter-smooth.

HFW is fantastic so far. Played for 8 hours last night. The characters animations, and especially the faces, have been bumped up to the next level. They really look good. Great characters, great voice acting, well-written dialogue. I won't be skipping dialogue interactions here like I was doing in Dying Light, that's for sure. And really... 60fps is the only way to go. The difference in visual quality between 60fps and 30fps 4k are barely noticeable. And I haven't done extensive testing (I'm sure some reviews will go into more detail on FPS) but the 4k option doesn't even feel like a 'stable' 30 FPS which makes it worse. It feels more jerky than it should. Anyway, I'm very happy with the game so far. Hope you enjoy it.

He'll miss his destination during the air drop. He'll have to find and climb the nearest radio tower to get a good look at the surrounding area, then when he spots Ubi HQ he'll bust out his hang glider and glide in. Ubi HQ security will open fire, forcing the acquisition specialist to make use of an arsenals of molotovs, rockets, and throwing knives. The acquisition specialist takes a hit and patches himself up by jamming a cigar into his eyeball. Once security has been dealt with, Ubi HQ will change alignment from Ubisoft to Microsoft. Acquisition complete.

DL2 is good but I was a little disappointed overall. The paraglider and grappling hook felt out of place in a parkour game (just like the hook did in the first in my opinion). I preferred the small city of Haran in DL1, without the massive skyscrapers and such. Also I hope their next game has less focus on narrative and story because they couldn't write a compelling character to save their life. I wind up skipping most of the dialogue interactions. It's no worse than DL1 though so it's not a big deal, but good writing would have been a plus.
