Gotta say... those outdoor screenshots look pretty nice for such an old game. Unreal was the first engine I can think of that did outdoor environments really well. I played this back min the day and I remember liking it, but I remember nothing else about it.

One of the more memorable video game moments, at least from that generation, was finally getting out of the dungeon tutorial and hitting the full-bloom outdoors, seeing forever, and being able to do anything.

I'll give you that one. That was a really cool intro. Very memorable. The game had a lot of issues (out of control level-scaling, samey dungeons/caves) but I think my biggest problem with it was just... the setting. Cyrodiil is relatively plain and uninteresting compared to the settings of Morrowind and Skyrim. I am seriously considering giving it another chance though, with mods. I'm pretty sure I own it on Steam.

I haven't played in forever and I don't have much else to play this month, so I'll probably play a bit this season. Maybe I'll try to pick up all of the remaining achievements I'm missing. The Echoing Nightmare thing sounds kind of neat. I couldn't ever really get into Grim Dawn or PoE, and there isn't much else out there in the way of Diablo-esque ARPGs. I can't play the anime ones, so that leaves Diablo 3.

Those must be quite old development shots if the game is slated for release this Fall.

Yeah. "New" leaked images from 4 years ago. Doubt they bear any resemblance to what the game looks like today. If this game is bad, that might do it for me as a gamer. I can't tell if there really is no more creativity in AAA games anymore, or if I'm just too jaded from years of playing. Bethesda has always been my favorite single player game maker ever since Morrowind. If I can't get into this, maybe it's time for golf.

I wouldn't worry too much about the game not being any fun, if you enjoyed their previous games. I don't think they're going to stray far from their tried-and-true formula of open world sandbox. If they did, then I'd be worried. Just like Fallout 3 was "Oblivion with guns", this will probably be "Skyrim in space". That's ok by me, though.

Ah yes, Oblivion. That sweet bloom effect was in heavy use in the mid-2000s, and Oblivion sure didn't shy away from it. I'd like try it again someday but I always preferred both Morrowind and Skyrim for various reasons. Oblivion just didn't click for me.

Elden Ring is easily the best and worst game I've ever played.

The farther you get into the game, the more the balance is completely out of whack. Random monsters walking around are tougher than bosses, by FAR. Ultra Wide Screen is only doable via a mod, but when you mod it, it looks amazing. Since I modded that, I also modded automatic Rune Recovery, since that was easily the most infuriating mechanic in the game, when added in with insane difficulty swings and fatal damage if you fall 1cm too far. Also, Elden Ring has an extremely primitive quest system, basically unforgivable in 2022 for a AAA game. Luckily for Elden Ring, the combat is so damned good, and the rest of the game is so beautiful, I can overlook the bullshit quest system and most of the worst enemies, which I have been mostly exploiting with Bow and Spells, and some traps.

I have about 50 or so hours in the game, and with my meandering, near random exploration of the game, I think I'm around level 56? I need a working mod that increases resource harvesting, because I'm wasting too much time farming stuff for arrows.

Your thoughts echo my own. Fantastic game with some really crap design choices. The terrible questing system might be forgivable if, say, the entire concept of "quests" had never been explored in video games before and From Software were the first to introduce the concept. But no, it's clear that RPG style quests are not their forte. Hopefully with all the sweet cash they're raking in from the game, they can afford to polish up the sequel a bit.

I never finished Skyrim. I mean I did everything else in the game, but the story was just the most boring part of it. Is it worth finishing?

Nope, waste of time. The main story is super generic and uninteresting in every way. Nothing exciting ever happens. The final battle is set up as this epic event but it turns out to be rather pathetic and silly. If you did everything else but the main story, there is absolutely no reason to go back to it. Great game, though!

Epic Games please listen - make a new Unreal Tournament with the billions you are making for Fortnite to thank your original fans for putting you in business!

I just don't think there is a place in today's market for that kind of competitive shooter anymore. CS:GO is the closest thing I can think of but CS has been around in some form since the late 90s, whereas UT has been dead for many years and has, comparatively, very little name recognition. At this point, I'm not sure they could revive it and expect it to do well.

Some great deals there if you dig around a bit. XCOM2 and Homeworld: Remastered for $3.59 each, for example. I'll probably be picking up few things.

I see what you're trying to do, imply that black people have privilege.

Only someone like you could read: "One set of rules for the wealthy and powerful, and a different set for all the rest of us," and mistranslate it into "One set of rules for black people, and a different set for all the rest of us."

No, the problematic statement from you was "It's an actual example of all the "privilege" we keep hearing about.". It's pretty clear what you meant by that. But I'm not trying to antagonize or anything. I just think that was a very silly statement.

No Country for Old Men and Amadeus are both in one of my top tens.

No Country for Old Men is one of two movies that left me cold after my first viewing, but after a second viewing became one of my favorite movies of all time (the other being Pulp Fiction). On my first viewing, I made the mistake of thinking it was Llewelyn Moss' story and was disappointed and confused about how and why his character ended up the way he did. After my second viewing, I understood it much better and loved the film. It's probably in my top 5 of all time, definitely top 10 at least.

Agreed. I play a decent amount of LoL. I never understood how chronically toxic players continue to fail to understand that their behavior in no way helps their situation. Demeaning other teammates and tilting other people for mistakes never results in them turning around their game. They are only hurting themselves by reacting the way they do.

I don't think they care so much about winning as they care about feeling like they're better than everyone else. Put everyone else down to bring yourself up. Classic bully behavior.

Here's a Max Payne 3 key
Redemption Instructions:
Download Rockstar Games Launcher: https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher
Launch Rockstar Game Launcher and go to Store.
Now select “Redeem Code” and enter the activation code.
Download your game.

Be cool and post that you snagged it.

In case anyone is on the fence about grabbing and trying that Max Payne 3 freebie, I'll say that I recommend that game wholeheartedly, for whatever that is worth. I thought it was a fitting conclusion to the series. It probably feels quite dated by now though, being a whole decade old.

This looks like it could be good. I much preferred Until Dawn over their Dark Pictures anthology, and this looks more like the former. Basically an interactive B-grade horror movie. It better be cheesy as hell though and not take itself too seriously.

Glad the game is selling well. Now maybe they can afford to hire a UI/UX designer and a quest designer. Those aspects of the game keep it from getting any higher than an 8/10 or so from me, but it's a high 8 for sure. It does certain things so well that I can overlook a lot.

It isn't remote, it's going to happen. At least as far as taking back control of Congress this fall. The planet may be a nuclear wasteland beyond that so I'll reserve comment about what may happen in 2024. The Dems can keep at it with their diversity political bullshit and they'll keep losing. It's that simple.

Yes, everything is the Democrat's fault so let's just elect Republicans and everything will be fine.

All they do is vilify white people - men in particular - and pander to blacks and women and ignore all other minorities. So yes, it's their own damn fault they keep losing.

White fragility is alive and well, I see. I'm as white and male as anyone and I can't imagine how someone could actually think this.

You can't call it a sandbox game if you put extensive limits on what you can do in the world and how you can change it, which I'm sure they will do since it's EA and they want to make it as easy and accessible as possible.

I probably won't be utilizing cross-play for this particular game. Still, props to them for including and supporting cross-play in their games. Too few modern games support cross-play. I get that supporting cross-play isn't as simple as flipping a switch but I'm still disappointed at how few games support it.
