Really enjoyed Subnautica Below Zero. It's like the quality expansions they used to make. It has a whole new biome, story, a new survival mechanic around heat, new and interesting flora and fauna, a whole new modular submarine, and some more. Even works in VR with a mod.

There were some additions that didn't work so well I think. But the most important part, the underwater exploration, was improved over the original. Biomes in Below Zero are much more detailed and visually gorgeous. I've heard people complain that the first game had a bigger map, but to me it's irrelevant because Below Zero biomes are much more densely packed with less dead space. I do miss the cyclops, but the modular submarine is a really cool addition (and less buggy than the cyclops). Pretty happy with the game overall.

Reaction videos are mostly stupid. Really stupid. However, I do enjoy watching the "Devs React to Speedruns" series by IGN. It's fun when the devs freak out about the speedrunner exploiting bugs, or breaking their game.

i like the idea of a more story driven survival game. i've owned subnautica for years but never got around to it; fair or no, "survival game" mentally translates to "fuck around cutting down trees game" for me. i'm going to have to check this out.

Yea, what you're describing as "fuck around cutting down trees game" is more of a sandbox survival game, which the Subnautica series definitely is not. There is resource gathering, crafting, etc. but it all serves an ultimate purpose of progressing the story. I think it works out great.

Is there some gameplay video of Starfield out yet? Or is it still too early? I mean, we know it's Bethesda, so there will be walking around and skill trees, but...

And it will be unpolished, buggy as hell, and won't support FPS above 60. Yet despite its quirks, exploring the world will probably be somewhat enjoyable.

This game is much better than I was expecting based on the reviews I was seeing when it first came out on the PS4. Dealing with zombie hordes was a ton of fun. Story was pretty engaging and the game really nails the look of the Great Northwest, where I'm from. The scenery was instantly recognizable to me and I loved it. The only real downside is that the protagonist is not very likeable. He's a bit of a Biker Bro Douchebag, which was an instant turn off, but eventually I grew to... tolerate him. So glad I took a chance with this one and purchased it day 1 on the PS4. Disappointed that there won't be a sequel though.

I feel like they went the distance here. Combat revamp for ME1, controls fix for ME1, graphics pass on all of the games and includes all previous DLC in a single bundle. There is definitely $60 to $80 of value here to say the least. For anyone playing this for the first time they won't experience the third games shitty initial endings either. I picked it up, looking forward to it this weekend.

Yea it looks like they didn't just slap on hi-res textures and call it a day. Looks like a proper remaster. I don't know if I'll buy it, but if you haven't played the ME trilogy yet, this looks like a great opportunity to give it a go.

I played about 75% through this late last year and it was pretty good. Underwater exploration is still as awesome as it was in the previous game. On foot exploration is a bit underwhelming, and that's pretty much a universal sentiment I think. It's not terrible, but it can be easy to get lost and you have to keep warm by finding cover or hot spots, which can be annoying. Story and voice acting are pretty standard, but those aspects of the game weren't finished when I played so I can't say too much about that. I'd say if you enjoyed Subnautica, then you'll probably enjoy this as well, even though the additions to Below Zero turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion. I'm looking forward to reinstalling and completing it.

I wouldn't put that on Wesker, that's just what happens when the guy who adapted Mortal Kombat to the big screen tries to imitate something like this.

I'm sure the director didn't help anything there, definitely, but even in the games when Wesker is flip-dodging bullets in slo-mo, I can't help but cringe. It's impossible to take the games seriously when he shows up. I get that some people like Wesker as a character, and I can't begin to understand why. But hey, I won't judge!

Ah yes, Wesker, the guy who spawned the most hilarious action scene of all time in Resident Evil: Afterlife:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J58VPpPrmQU&ab_channel=BlockABoots

I'm convinced there is someone out there who thinks that scene is just so badass. Even in the games, he always elevated the already over-the-top nature of the RE franchise to a level of absurdity that was just comical. The less of that character showing up in future RE games, the better.

Just refunded it after 30 minutes of play because I just didn't want to deal with the interface and controls. I'm sure a lot of it can be fixed with remapping keys and mods in the future, but I don't feel like bothering. It's a shame, because I really enjoyed RE7 and was looking forward to this. I'll just watch a Let's Play of it on YouTube or something.

I played quite a bit of this a couple years ago. It's fun but there are some fundamental issues that cannot and will not ever be fixed. Namely the dull combat and Minecraft-level AI. The interface was unresponsive and annoying as well, but that might have been fixed since. Not sure. It's a shame because most other aspects of the game are done well (the base building, thralls, visuals). Mods are pretty much essential for solo play IMHO and can help alleviate some of the tedium. It's pretty clear that they rushed the game (the base game) out of Early Access so they could start selling overpriced DLC, and that's too bad. It's a good game and probably worth picking up if you're into these types of survival/building games, but it could have been so much more. As for this expansion, the comments on Steam seem to suggest that this is very PvP focused, so I'll be giving it a hard pass.

I still own the SNES cartridge of this game, lol. It was somewhat difficult controls in that they weren't all that responsive.

I played the SNES version as well. I was amazed at how fluid and lifelike the animations were. Didn't know about rotoscoping back then. The controls did feel unresponsive, particularly the jumping. I don't know how many times I faceplanted into the ground because my jump timing wasn't just right.

Isn't the metacritic score for Days Gone, like, 72?

I remember the game being panned when it first came out. Maybe it got better with updates?

I bought and played the game on launch. It is much better than I expected it would be. It has a great, detailed open world, and really nails the look of the Great Northwest. Taking out zombie nests was always a lot of fun, and can get very tense. It does zombie hordes very well. The only issue I had was with the protagonist not being very likeable. He even looks like a total douchebag. As I got further into the game, it bothered me less, but it took a while.

While I can't say if this is any good or not (Steam reviews are mixed currently and I haven't tried it), I am glad to see more factory/automation games being made in recent years. All thanks to the success of Factorio, one of the best games ever made IMO. I'll add this one to my watch list. It looks decent but I'm not interested in dealing with yet another incomplete, buggy Early Access game.

The game has potential. It has gotten a little tedious after a few hours for me though. I haven't gotten too far but I've raided a few 'dungeons' and they are pretty bland and uninteresting. They're just tiny crypts. However I do like the visual style. Reminds me of an early 2000s game but with modern graphical effects. Not everyone's cup of tea but I got a feeling of nostalgia for games from that era while playing it. I'll keep it installed and fire it up from time to time as they add more content.

If they're not updating the 20 year old gameplay then I don't really see much point in this. There are tons of little improvements they would have to make before I would consider buying this again. I loved D2 but I'm not going to destroy my mouse with excessive clicking just because I have to click on gold drops to pick them up. Also, get rid of charms, tweak loot tables, and allow characters to respec skill points. If they can do all of that, I might consider it.

Looks like they are making decent (albeit slow) progress on the interface. I was worried that the DF Steam release would be nothing more than classic DF with a fancy sprite pack included, but it's a bit more than that. Looking forward to getting back into the game with a proper mouse driven interface.

I love werewolf games, and they are pretty few and far between.

Out of curiosity, can you name a few? I think the last game I played that featured werewolves in any interesting capacity was Witcher 3, but they were just very minor side characters.
