Sony still has the exclusives I want, and I doubt that will ever change. MS can't buy Guerrilla Games, Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, etc. The MS games I'm interested in are likely coming to PC anyway so as long as I have a PC and PS5, I'm good!

They could offer zero years of content updates and I'd be fine with it as long as the game doesn't feel unfinished at release. Extra content is always a bonus in my book.

I don't really understand that for an early access with limited content. Is it that much fun to play?

Well, the tactical shooter genre has been highly neglected for years so it's not too surprising that it's doing well. Discounting the Rainbow Six games, I can't remember the last game of this kind since SWAT3 4, which came out over 20 15 years ago (and was loads of fun). Maybe there were other games but I don't remember them.

But Techland continues to disappoint in many ways, No Character Generation, No Choice to Play Female and Forced Infection, wtf? Bawling

The forced infection has me a little worried. I hope it doesn't actually have much effect on gameplay and I don't have to go out of my way to keep it under control. It would suck to be in the middle something only to be interrupted by a warning that my infection is progressing and I have to quickly hunt down meds to keep it under control. Other than that, the game looks great from what I've seen so far. Looking forward to it.

I haven't played this yet but have meaning to.

Anyone know offhand if the combat is optional? Could I start up a game after this update and not have to worry about that?

There is no combat currently. That's coming later this year. Second half of 2022 was their last estimate. I have to assume (hope) that it will be optional. It's a pretty chill game you can play at your own pace.

Yea it's quite good. I never actually got far enough to finish a Dyson Sphere but I put quite a bit of time into it. I have mixed feelings on the combat update though. I don't think this game will benefit from combat, but we'll see how it's implemented. They've added a lot of QoL stuff since launch.

If anyone is thinking of picking this up and hasn't played yet, I highly recommend this tutorial on the grid system:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E-QekRlRDo&ab_channel=Nilaus

It describes how the square building grid is mapped onto the spheres of planets and moons, and how to work around the inherent limitations of that. You try to avoid building a row of assemblers along the meridian, for example. It will save you some headaches early on.

Thank you. I've always wanted to learn and tinker with electronics as a hobby but I'm old and I'd rather not open another textbook for as long as I live. That might just be what I was looking for.

I legitimately do not remember. I'll give a game up to four hours to hook me (which in my world is a considerable amount of free time). If it fails to do so, I abandon it. So if it doesn't happen in that first four hours, I probably did not.

That's fair. If a game doesn't hook you in after 4 hours, it's a problem. The game does get progressively better as it goes on but it is not a short game and really takes it time in the beginning.

This Days Gone discussion is making me want to fire the game up again to try for 100% achievements. I miss playing the game. I'm not sure I can do it though. It's a real bitch on hardest difficulty (Survival Mode II I think). No fast traveling and minimal UI right? Love the game but I'm not sure I have it in me to go for 100%. Would be quite a challenge.

You don't have to do survival mode for that one, Hard II also works. But either way is super easy if you're carrying over all your stuff into New Game+ so you can get that achievement at the same time. I blew through NG+ Survival II in 6-8 hours just sticking to required story quests... Getting a gold medal on all the challenges took more time and effort, IIRC.

Ah right I was thinking of starting fresh but NG+ wouldn't be too bad. I might give it a go then, thanks.

I played Days Gone for a bit but I felt like I was playing State of Decay with a theme pack. I don't remember anything about it being particularly remarkable and I couldn't tell you who the characters were because they were so forgettable.

Did you get far enough into the game to encounter a horde nest? Taking out hordes was a ton of fun and always a challenge. I'd never seen zombie hordes like that in a game before (not counting L4D as it's a completely different type of game). Regarding the characters... yea there are some good characters and story beats, but that's mostly later in the game. So I won't argue that point. Unfortunately the protagonist is not very likable but he did grow on me after a while.

This is really sad. This guy needs to quit his whining (I'm pretty sure he's the same one that complained "buy the game at full price!!1" after it was offered free on PS Plus).

No, it's not the same guy. I didn't see any whining there at all but ok.

So Days Gone sold over 9 million copies and that's not enough for a sequel? I'll bet the lukewarm critical reception had something to do with it. Perhaps it sold poorly initially due to its critical reception, but sales picked up as word of mouth spread about how the game actually is pretty decent. Over time, the game has gotten the recognition I think it deserves, especially after the Steam release. It's a great game. I loved both Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima, but of those two games I would prefer a sequel to Days Gone.

I haven't even played this game but they had all the time in the world to "scope, design, and execute" before release and it looks like they blew it from everything I've read. They're talking as if this is a game that hasn't actually been been released yet.

As for Mass Effect:LE coming to Gamepass, I think I'll install that one. Been tempted to buy it after a few friends got into it, but held off as the price was just a bit outside my comfortable range.
Now I'll just have to find the time to get into it. I played through 1 and 2, but never had a chance to play 3, so I'm somewhat looking forward to it.

I'm one of the few who prefers ME3 over ME2 so I'd say you missed out by skipping 3, but it's great that you'll finally get a chance to play it.

The rampant online cheating makes me glad I'm not into modern competitive FPS games. This is simply an issue I haven't had to deal with since the late '90s when I occasionally ran into aim bots in the Quake games. Sucks for those that play these games. Maybe get better taste in games? I'm kidding!

Resident Evil Village wasn't even the game of the month it came out. I thought Deathloop and Biomutant were both better games. Mass Effect Legendary came out that month too but it's sort of a remaster so I let that pass.

Agree 100% on RE: Village. That game was a huge downgrade from RE7. Visually the game was great, but that's about all it had going for it. I'm kind of shocked that people seem to like it so much. It can't just be because of big vampire lady, can it?
