These look like trash... and the prices are hilarious. I grabbed American Pool (how can pool be bad?) and the price was slashed to $0 from $129.95 AUD with IAP...

Why is the bar set so low? It seems to me that most of the big publishers have games with minimum specifications higher than "$600 Walmart laptop with integrated graphics."

As RedEye correctly attributed, hyperbole. The point is that the barrier to entry needs to be low enough for mass adoption. It needs to be plug and go.

It already is low enough. That's what an Oculus Quest is all about.

Every time I read someone post something along the lines of "Hurr durr only stupid/poor people don't have/don't want/resist VR" what I see is "Hurr durr I'm too stupid to understand how market economies and economy of scale works."
VR just isn't there yet and, as I said previously, it may never be in its current guise. I'm glad you have a very expensive, niche toy you can run a handful of games on. I genuinely am and I am also glad you derive enjoyment from it. But to bury your head way, way up your ass and claim breathlessly that "VR is the future and the rest of you are suckers" isn't just ignorant. It's monumentally stupid.

You're probably right about the economics of it all, but after picking up Alyx... damn, that is one incredible experience. As a game it's fantastic, but having it in VR (and VR done properly) it's like nothing I've played in VR so far. (and I've played a lot) And, I'm playing it in a Rift 1, which is hardly the top of VR headsets. I challenge anyone to play it and say 'Meh' to VR. That said, my VR setup is a nightmare, so there's a lot of work to be done lowering the barrier of entry to VR.

Side note - there are far more than a handful of games for it.

Are you positive? Unless you can just go off the rails and explore the level this really looks just like a bit of decent programming.
Also nothing that couldn't be done on a PC.

It probably leverages the SSD quite a bit. I guess we'll see in time. The footage is labelled as pre-alpha, so...

For me, I think Horizon 2 looked interesting. If that was using the in-game engine, you'd need a meaty PC to full that off at 4k.

Just watched the whole 1hour+ long video on Youtube and my first thought was: "That's it?"

Well... after Unreal Engine 5's demo, that was underwhelming.

And I didn't see anything there that can't be done right now on a PC.

*shrugs*

Watch the Ratchet & Clank stuff again, with the rift portal mechanic. They're doing exactly what I recall someone on here said they wanted to see, where you can teleport between two enormous and completely different levels with a transition time of literally 1-2 seconds. It happens 5 times in a row in the reveal trailer, which I assume is a pretty early part of the game where they really show it off.

Yeah I saw that, wasn't impressed, Serious Sam had portals like that decades ago.

Serious Sam had portals... but not portals like that.

Haha yeah, I just installed 2 and was surprised to see an additional 30gig download start without telling me...

Black game developers are underrepresented. This is probably because the minority as a whole is disadvantaged in this country. This would support more black game developers.

Good job ignoring my first question.

I'm not going to argue against what you've said. Maybe it would do something to help, but I still think it's a waste of money compared to putting money towards where it's really needed. This issue isn't about representation or perceived equality. It's about racism.

Maybe you should write a lot about it and reveal your true self to all of us, yourself included.

You're talking about solving racist violence specifically towards black people in the US. How will giving money to black game developers do that exactly? Explain that one for me. And, explain to me how black game developers are a disadvantaged group.

Wow dude, troll much?

Yeah, because giving money to black people to make games is totally going to get them out of the situation all white people have apparently put them in.

I could write a lot about how idiotic this comment is, but I can't be bothered. Dumb.

He kind of has a point though. Are blacks the only race that are discriminated against? What about Asians? Where's their fund? Indians? Chinese? Japanese? Why even bring color into the realm of software development? I'm sure they had all kinds of different races working on all kinds of different software. So, are they going to print the race of every developer on new releases of software products? Then people can scream RACIST one more time when everybody doesn't buy the software because maybe it sucks? This just seems weird to me. ALL LIVES MATTER!

Stop dividing people through race. Give that 1 million dollars to POOR people, not black, not white, not asian, not chinese, not the green martians. Give it to underpriviledged POOR people.

Yeah, totally agree.

All of these games look exactly the same to me. It's like someone said to a bunch of 17 year old artists, "Just go wild making a bunch of random and generic art assets - we'll shove them an equally generic looking shooter."

It’s more than needing a patch. I wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as people were reporting... but basic things like the cutscenes were hilariously bad. It feels like a game that was made 5 years before JC3.
