I've often come across the American misconception that the UK is completely metric, but that's not really the case. Imperial gets used all the time for human judged measurements (height, weight, speed, etc.) I think the measures evolved in a more organic way and their scales are more sympathic to how we perceive the world.

The difference comes when accuracy and/or money is involved, cosy measuring systems are discarded and metric is used instead. For example if you asked me how wide a doorway was I'd probably guess at 3ft, and then measure it in cm.

Fahrenheit doesn't really fall into this category though, it's just another scientifically arrived at scale. I think Celcius does a better job of aligning with how we understand the world - because it's water based - which is probably why Fahrenheit is hard to adapt to.

He cares because the game was supposed to be offline with an online component. And those "cosmetic" items are things people in the community should be able to create and distribute for free. You guys are probably too young to realize that used to be a common in thing in games...

^^ This

Online-offline...don't care that much. Their offline mode does suffice, just how wings are managed, not too big on that.

It was disappointing that they kept the change away from a true offline mode a secret, but it was quite a while ago now and it's probably time to let it go - it was so long ago that I think it might be over two years since I've even played Elite.

Personally I'm amazed how little money they've asked for to continue development of the game, this second season seems to have been going for ages (I'm considering having another go, but was waiting for season three). If paint jobs are making it financially viable, it seems like a small concession.

Perhaps a bit underdelivered to begin with, but in retrospect, their steady progress has made the Star Citizen shitshow look ridiculous.

Trailer for Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek Spoof Looks Tedious.

I don't get why people keep thinking it's a good idea to put him in front of the camera. It's like watching a mannequin with teeth.

Was recently putting together a basic system for a relative, and realised that if they wanted to stick with Windows 7, I should base it around Haswell rather than Skylake.

I was disgusted but not surprised.

Over 2 billion people watch cricket, that's quite a bit more than stick ball, ball hoop or egg ball. So maybe try having a slightly broader world view, not too hard though, don't want you to hurt yourself.

Ahahhahhahha Dallas.

Ahh, the uplifting feeling of another Cowboys play-off loss

And they really need to put a stop to that icing the kicker nonsense, it's pathetic.

You guys are all nuts, the correct answer is obviously the Muppet Christmas Carol

And while the Snowman might be the more festive one from Raymond Briggs, you want When the Wind Blows for something really cheerful.

My only minor gripe is that the vanilla campaign that comes with the game isn't that great. Just go straight for the expansions, or some of the user-created modules, which are much, much better.

What about those poor Waterdhavian ... Zzz zzz... creatures?!

I'm sorry, I fell asleep there for a moment.

Kept thinking something was going to happen, it didn't.

Giving me something for free and still managing to make me feel ripped off is quite an achievement.

And there was me thinking that the UK leaving the EU had demonstrated the true horror of harnessing the stupid vote. Well, I guess we've now quite literally been trumped.

In recent years I haven't really had a huge amount of time to play games, so it's probably quite telling that a couple of years after playing RDR I went back and spent the time to play it all again. Now I doubt I'd buy a PC version, but if there's a decent number of PC users who've never played it, it makes perfect sense to port what is still one of the best games ever made.

The existing multiplayer activities could probably be expanded into a GTA5 online style if they really wanted to as well.

I'm still slightly jealous of my friend's copy of Last Ninja 2, which not only came with a ninja mask in the box, but also a rubber throwing star (!)
