So instead of using cloud power to run servers for instanced games, they are using dedicated servers to instance their games.... I'm still wondering why any of you give EA any money at this point.

what?

cloud power?

what are you smoking?

what do you think "the cloud" is exactly? if not a dedicated server. i hate the term "the cloud" because it's just marketing speak for a server on the internet, which is synonymous with dedicated server...

"instanced" only means that one physical server box is usually running many instances of the same game at the same time.

lol I bet you work in IT. That reply brings back memories and sure put a smile on my face. Left IT sort off, in an odd subsection/branch now. Miss hearing people give those types of replies to clients no matter their pay grade or level of IT knowledge/literacy. The best were the arguments between 2 guys with 2 different paths to the same solution nothing like flying staplers to start day lol.
arguing like mad thinking the other guy is completely wrong.

I wonder if this game influenced Battlefront 3 and the no server browser drama?

I have a weird feeling that it did, multiplayer titles are like night clubs. When a club is empty they let people line up and wait to hide the fact that it's not attracting patrons. Well the server exposes the low player count and like with clubs, no one wants to pay to play alone.

Bad strategy of course especially since we saw how that decision toasted CoD on the PC quite thoroughly in a relatively short amount of time.

On topic, i agree with those saying it should've been a dlc for bf4.

Allegedly add Win10 monitoring functionalities to Win7. They will return as critical updates if you decide to remove them. Do your research and decide for yourselves.

By Netflix' own logic, they should only offer one movie available for streaming and nothing else, because they think their customers are too stupid to handle a binary choice like 1. watch offline, or 2. not watch offline. The sad part is that there are people with poor connections that want to watch content in HD and would DL a couple things while away at work during the day to watch at night. If you change your mind, you still have SD. But people tend to binge watch, so if you watched Daredevil Ep 1 & 2 last night, you know you'll be watching 3 & 4 tonight.

Well said! I know a single mother in that situation. To make it worst they have to deal with Canadian DL caps and the fact that if she buys & downloads a title from steam she has to pick between watching a movie/show before bed or using steam to get a game for her child. (2min wait after hitting play & lots of freezing when getting a game for the son or any downloading). DL caps made her cut cable ($$) and soon she'll move to a small ISP that does not provide cable to avoid throttling and save a few more dollars.

That one line is enough to make it a no buy. M/KB should always be the main and equal to or better than adding console controller.(as well as the console save system).

C'mon...you're meaning to tell me you prefer to play racing and platforming games with a M/KB over a controller? I find that very hard to believe. Some games are easier to control with a M/KB and some are easier to control with a controller. There's no need to be a "PC Master Race" elitist.

For those kinds of games, yes. But for a game like this, the developer needs to put in the effort to make sure the port works well with a M/KB. It sounds from the comments that they may not have, and that's unacceptable.

Despite being a PC only gamer since the early 80s, I used to get frustrated when space sim fans started demanding mouse M/KB support. Then again, I understood that it comes in handy when to broke for a stick (my first month of wing commander 2). Now, I use an Orbweaver and have used a variation on the topic since they've been out. Stick or Dpad for WASD is the only way to go for me. The Orbweaver is over price but those cherry MX switches are as good as they say. I can aim with wasd or the mouse. Those types of devices are mixture of gamepad/joystick and keyboard so support for both is required for these devices to work as intended.

Strait up driving games, space sims, mech games or flight sims, I would only play with a stick or wheel. This game, Orbweaver and Rat 7 mouse.

I guess we're living in the Michael Bay era. Flash enough lights fast enough in front of people and you've got a box office hit on your hands!

D@mn you made laugh and i needed it! Yeah, Prometheus, first time in years that i was willing to pay to go to the theater (outside of dates). Walked out in shock, the skipped anger and just laughed. It's grown on me since but, just the visuals and under the right conditions. It was an even bigger disappointment to me than Elysium, Oblivion, Interstellar, Jupiter Ascending, Ender's game etc..

I didn't even know the Guardian's of the Galaxy movie existed, found out when my ex's kid went to see it. I gave it a shot (not at the thereat) and enjoyed it more than any movie in years.

Oblivion and Interstellar were legit good movies, what is wrong with you? You can't even put them in the same sentence as Jupiter Ascending, you just destroy all credibility doing so.

My credibility is safe and sound lol. Taste is subjective. This is art and like it is with food, humans don't all have the same pallet. Is a wine lover more credible than a beer connoisseur? I'm to old for the whole "you're not cool" or credible due to my taste in movies. Anyways that why i said "...disappointment to me.."

I'm going to play an fps, since it's not an rts my credibility as a gamer is probably shot..

We have a winner!

I'll play every MP shooter under the sun and they still don't compare to Battlefield.

It's less about Battlefield being really good, and more about the other games being pretty bad.

Battlefield wins...by default.

I don't disagree. It's an amazing experience and simply looks amazing on the right rig. That being said, it's had it's growing pains to say the least. Still get the occasional rubber banding when someone with a good ping scopes me with a weapon or vehicle. I take it as a warning and move on if possible. Outside of that, the only thing missing is the "tightness" of the controls.

Started playing again after getting a XB270HU, so 6months off. Yes, the game has vastly improved. "tightest" BF game to date by far but still not were it should be. Started playing UT4 as well, got schooled and still getting schooled but, because it's "tight" I've adapted and expect to hold my own if I play regularly. With BF4 each encounter is still a dice roll (i don't DMR or shotgun just regular assault). I don't mean that bf4 has to feel like UT, CS or even call, the game is still lacking in response and lateral movement. Arma 3 isn't as good but it feels "tighter" for some reason. I admit that though I'm over 40, I prefer twitch shooters and am way better at them but, capping flags in bf4, i still get frustrating deaths.

This game mode would be cool if it didn't just incentivize everyone using IRNV scopes. Those scopes are a pain even on regular maps. Really wish they had never added them. Imagine playing a map where you could hide int he shadows, look for muzzle flashes, and use flashlights. None of that will ever happen because everyone will just use the IRNV scopes. :/

It would never happen even if they remove IRNV, just constantly spotting has the same impact unless its a "classic" game that doesn't put the orange marker on the enemy.

Doubt many servers would run those options simply because teams would end up being mostly snipers or DMRs hiding in bushes. It's already an issue in the sense that we've all played games where half the opposition is hiding on roofs making it easy for the other side to dominate in no time.

IMHO, this game lives because of the lack of alternatives. UT4 will take forever, Doom is in the distant future and Overwatch is Overwatch. That leaves us with Battlefront (Toxikk never got any love and is pretty much DOA). UT4 is slowly moving into the Toxikk realm, slow progress drove the people away. Only 2 official maps after all this time. I'm no expert but, i assumed that remaking all the maps and game modes with the new engine and adding sli support would've been easy.

are you guys living in a world where everyone always does what they say they will do?? because let me tell you - its very often NOT THE CASE

especially when it comes to businesses, politicians, etc. etc.

i mean, i cant really understand how this is even considered a "good argument"... BECAUSE ITS FUCKING LAUGHABLE

You're correct. We live in a world where being dishonest is becoming the norm. Is this the type of world that as individuals, we want to live in. If the answer is yes then bend over and take it, if not, do something about it. Voice your opinion, look at big business and the juice they've acquired through campaign financing, lobbying etc and read up on how the world works and use voting and other mechanisms to change things. Change takes time like the people in power said to civil rights activists in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & now lol. In 50 years we may see all sides agreeing that there is a problem... 1st step of the good old 12 step program.

The patches made the game run worse, or in my case, not run at all.

10 Patch applies
20 Patch completes
30 Try to play
40 You need to update this product
50 Goto 10

Have done a complete reinstall via Origin (ewwww), still no dice. Can't revert to the prepatched playable variant.

I thought I was the only one. Put the game aside for a couple months, tried to play while on vacation and experienced what you described. Had to fiddle with with Origine to get the update to finally install. Option to play wasn't greyed out anymore till i tried to play...yep line 50 goto 10 lol. (good old old days on the vic 20).

Also, while some of the telemetry stuff in Windows 10 is kind of crappy, if you've ever used a smartphone, free e-mail service or social network, you're already giving away far more information on a daily basis to companies whose sole intent it to monetise it without your permission. And with most of those, you can't turn it off like you can in Windows 10. Anonymous telemetry data is small potatoes compared to how much data Facebook monetises and people happily narrate their entire lives on there.

Things move in a bad direction one small step at a time. In the long term it adds up to hardware you can't control, software you can't control, data entrusted to others to do whatever they please with, and your every move being monetized without you getting any share of the profits. And if something really bad results from any of that? Hope you like arbitration.

The excuse of "well it's just a default" didn't seem to work too well for Microsoft in the past. But thanks to the intense conditioning of social networks, smartphones, and "free" online services, I doubt anything will stop us from moving further along this path now.

We're totally screwed because of all the apologists.

More like we're totally screwed because of the lobbyists.
Big business = big money and in the era off super-packs and marathon elections don't expect change soon. It's currently impossible to change privacy laws because business bring up the "impact on the bottom line" argument and all it entails and game over.

Washington has never had any more (or any less) trouble making large, complex websites than any other organization. Especially any other organization where ~48% of the people are actively trying to sabotage things.

NOBODY does big web-based systems well...at best, they grown them over a decade and get something moderately functional (like Amazon). Just give any of the big help-desk apps a try, and you'll see what a hellish nightmare the "best software companies" produce.

Oh my, help-desk apps! I used to be the administrator of one of those nightmares. To make it worst, the company that made it closed shop years before i got the job. Mission critical phase of the organizations mandate and the thing got even more flaky than it was. Spent 40 days fixing seemingly minor issues 6 days a week and 10h minimum plus i ran the help-desk(s) 5 in one 135 people. millions of calls, 850000 faxes and 3500 emails all tracked using that one system. The cherry on top was the fact that i didn't have support from senior management or stake holders. I've moved on and 4 years latter someone else is doing my job for 20 000 a year more after they cut my job due to budget issues. I'm sitting back in a new job reading emails about the disaster they now face (yes i refused offers to go back).

Hell is real lol.

Indeed! Not my type of game but, i was amazed at the amount of co-workers who played the game. What is even more amazing is the number of grade school kids that stay late just to play in the computer lab. They have a hard time leaving when parents show up after work. The kids get home and spend hours watching minecraft vids on youtube!

Well done & since this is also a platform like Arma3, there is no excuse for Arma devs not to up their game.

Sure, we have a few trolls on the boards who could use a lesson in facing the consequences for their toxic behavior but such is life. Disagreed on the latter. The flipside of that though is some people think that anything that offends them should be immediately changed and that they deserve some sort of recompense. Sometimes you just get offended by something and have to live with it.

I get your point. Many many people share your view. " Sometimes you just get offended by something and have to live with it."

Unfortunately, that's one of the reasons we're where we are today. I grew up in a small white town and did exactly what you described. Do you think things got better or worst? Friends told me to brush it off etc and the culprits only got more bold. Once it reached the point were an adult was following me (10 years old) and my sister (6 years old) yelling the N word. I realized that issues need to be addressed and I dealt with all comers from then on. People have been saying what you said since the end of segregation. Things have barely progressed as a result. People who were involved in the 60s church bombing for example are being protected to this day. We had segregated proms in the Mississippi till about 2013, as per the well known documentary. The follow up Southern Rites documentary shows me that brushing off the problem is a recipe for disaster.

Like those crazy Isis psychopaths that were described as a minor nuance became our biggest threat. Had everyone dealt with the issue and consciously tried to counter their vile ideology they wouldn't be as bold and they sure wouldn't be more effective than the good guys on social media.

Bottom line no matter how unpleasant it may be, we're all better of dealing with issues up front.

I think people are missing the point a bit. No one's saying Eidos can't use themes of bigotry and segregation etc. The problem is the specific use of the term "apartheid" which was a specific set of policies resulting in the oppression of the black population and curtailment their rights. Many people died in the struggle against those policies.

It's an easy term to throw around, but much harder to handle with sensitivity and respect for the people who suffered under it. Using it to market your videogame story could seem pretty insensitive since they're not addressing the actual policy of apartheid as it existed in the real world; they're just leveraging an emotional term as shorthand. It's a bit gross that Eidos literally trademarked the term apartheid.

Thank you for posting. That is exactly what's missing from these debates, context. In an ideal world there would be no censorship and people could police themselves. Unfortunstly not everyone is educated enough and common sense has become a rare commodity. Some people seem to equate free speech with the right to offend without facing consequences. I'm older so when i say something i'm always ready and willing to assume the consequences no matter how extreme they may be.

last thing, a perfect example of the impact of context is Canada's first Nations. Many have said negative and even hateful things about first nations. Now the truth about residential schools, kidnappings (forced removal of kids) which happened even in the 60s and 70s combined with victim impact statements is making many change there tune. They used to bash first nations without realizing that they spent the last 100+ years trying to destroy them.

I don't condone violence but, if people want to say anything to anyone don't cry if your teeth get knocked out or worst.

They print the month it was manufactured on the box.

Edit - and yes, the monitor is goddam amazing. Even the anti-glare coating is great.

Thanks for the info. This is why this is the only board/site i've ever really joined.

Was going for the Acer despite their track record with other hardware but, I may go for the Asus after reading this. A good Acer is better than the Asus option but, it seems to be a dice roll right now.
