10. Re: No subject May 30, 2007, 18:16 4D-Boxing
Sounds like a bad marketing memo.

First I'd like to say that THis is the game I'm looking forward to. I want to play this more than Crysis or QW:ET.

Now to the rant.

First Epic gives us BS about PCs not being able to run Gears of War. WTF...we all know what is in the 360 so do not even give me that BS. Just say you want to pull a Halo2.

Second point: deferred shading ...deferred render whatever ...yeah I've seen other Devs. use that excuse for lack of AA. If kids can make patches that add support for Edge smoothing in other games that use the same approach Epic should be able to. Look at STALKER, R6 Vegas or GRAW... if I can get edge smoothing in those DX9 titles UT3 should not be any different.

I might not be game Dev. but I know BS when I hear it.

So many point to comment on...

Dual boot Vista/XP... I would do it but when I can buy 2gigs of DDR2 for the price of vista or a couple of 250gig SATA 2 Drives It's hard to chose to buy vista. The other opion will actually imprive performance, Vista will have the oposit effect on my gaming experience. If you look at the price of an Intel Core Duo 6600 it's getting real hard to find reasons to buy vista.

Mechworrior... If FASA has closed. I hope they sell the mechworrior franchise to someone who will bring make good use of it. By this I mean bring back the real mech games. In order to do that no selng to UBI, EA, Bungie, MS or any of the big companies. Sell it ot the gus who made stalker..they's bring back the AAA mech games for all platforms.

I guess it's good thing that I started turning of my dual 8800 GTX 1000W PSU beast before going to work.

99% of the time the only thing on in my apartment is the PC & the TV.. no need for lights... 24" LCD & the TV take care of that.

Based on my calculation the PC costs me about 30$ a month when left on 24/7. The wird thing is that even when i turn it off may power bill stays the same.

I think there is still room for improvement in games.
They could add some of the innovation that came out years ago. Deformable terrain... so that you can take a 3 or 4 grenades & create your own fox whole. Ability to destroy objects walls etc... to create your own entrances in buildings ( if you have the right explosives). Add more wild life & people bugs etc... so when you crwal you see all the detail onthe groud you would see in real life.

What about the stuff that in that mercenary fps game where you could shoot the glasses of a guy or take out diff. body parts.

add all that & it would be a good start. When it come to gameplay ..gamers will take those old innovation & change they way the games are played.

Imagine being able to digg a tunnel outside a wall & sneek into an enemy base? or having the enemy discover the tunnel & toss a few grenades to make it colapse & take out 5 or guys.

I know all these things are demanding on hardware but ...I'm just tring to show that games have not hit the wall when it comes to improvements.

If you take into consideration how long ago the game came out and the fact that you will need to get Vista.

This thing will have to look better than the Cysis movies from E3 to even stand a chance of selling well on the PC.

Instead of buying Vista & this game go get a new cpu or video card.

I know UT games are not everybodys cup of tea but look at the amout of extra content from map packs to extra characters Epic gave gamers for free.

That is the type of support games need. Sure most of the mappacks where created by users trying to win that make something ureal contest but still..thanks to their support, good SDK they kept their games alive for a long time.

Hellgate will die a very quick death.

I totally agree with you but didn't creative try to hype up something about game voice for the X-FI..

In a game like HL2:EP2 when using the voice option to chat it would make it sound like the sound came from inside the game. By this I mean if you where trapped in a cave taking enemy fire & called for help you would here the gunshots in the background & echo from the cave your footsteps in the dirt etc..

Knowing creative that stuff will never be seen in a game. Cretive driver support is probably the worst I've ever experienced so I do not expect any creative sound card feature to worth Cr@p.

Still saving up for a new CPU but I have an x2 4800+ 2 gigs of ram and 2 8800GTX running in SLI. At 1900x1200 with HDR the performance is not even close to being acceptable.

Only tested it for a few minites this morning will try again tonight but I doubt things will improve.

At this point just release the game. The window for creating hype closed a long time we just want the game.

Don't go DNF on us and put out press release after press release. Save them for 3 weeks before the release date.

My reaction exactly. I did my best to stay optimistic but It's starting to smell like another Oblivion/GRAW/R6-Vegas debacle.

What happened to DX9L I thought it was supposed to bring some of the DX10 features to XP.

I might not remember correctly but I thought I was supposed to be the alternative to upgrading to windows Vespa (Vista). Again it would not bring all the so called advantages of DX10 but enough for gamers not to notice any big graphical diff. in games.

Besides, Vista runs absolutely wonderfully well with so-called "DX9" 3d cards--....

Games running 10% slower on Vista is no my idea of wonderfull?!?!
I'm being nice by saying 10%

I just realized that I probably insulted the vespa by calling Vista that's just reference to the poor performance in games.

8. Re: YES! Apr 23, 2007, 11:27 4D-Boxing
retail sales for console games in 2006 were $4.8 billion

If you brealk down the 4.8 in figures for individual systems, PC sales are not as low as i expected.

Portable systems between PSP & WHat nintendo has to offer 1.7 billion & PC gaming is at 1 billion..not to bad for since PC gaming never advertises on TV like console gaming.

Nowdays Marketing is everything..o marketing & pc gaming lives on.

3. Re: Steam hack Apr 19, 2007, 11:05 4D-Boxing
I would never buy anything directly through steam, but that's just me.

I really do not get steam?!?! If I owned Valve or who ever owns steam. I would buy Xfire & teamspeak, combined the 2 and add a tab for the stuff they want to sell or promote. Maybe even throw in a drive emulation utility.

If they want to go all out and create the ultimate gamer utility add riva tuner or some other utility to tweak your system (compatible with ATI & Nvidia).

Wishfull thinking I know...
